You can move a 24/7 YouTube operation from Castr to Gyre, but treat it as a planned cutover—not a guaranteed seamless transfer. Castr documents forwarding a live source; Gyre’s documented workflow uses uploaded videos, a playlist, and a YouTube connection. The available documentation does not promise that Gyre can take over Castr’s active broadcast while preserving its watch page or avoiding an interruption.
What changes when you move from Castr to Gyre?
The key difference is how each service gets content to YouTube. Castr describes relaying the data it receives from a source that stays live. Gyre describes a cloud workflow in which you upload prerecorded videos, arrange them in a playlist, connect YouTube, and run the playlist continuously. Castr’s documentation says it relays the same data it receives when the source is live 24/7 (Castr Help Center, “Livestream 24/7 With Castr,” December 1, 2022); Gyre’s service page describes its uploaded-video workflow (Gyre, accessed October 3, 2026).
That difference means this is a change in production workflow, not simply a switch that transfers a running feed. If Castr currently receives a camera, encoder, or other live source, first decide whether uploaded prerecorded video and playlist looping meet your channel’s needs.
Prepare Gyre before stopping Castr
1. Document the existing source and broadcast
Write down what supplies Castr’s feed, how that source is maintained, and which YouTube broadcast and stream settings the channel uses. Castr documents both YouTube API connection and server/key configuration (Castr Help Center, “How to Connect YouTube with Castr,” May 19, 2023). Do not assume the Castr source, connection, or key automatically becomes a Gyre playlist or credential.

2. Upload and arrange the videos
In Gyre, prepare the files intended for the continuous broadcast and arrange them into the playlist you want viewers to hear or see. Gyre’s help center indexes separate instructions for manual setup, YouTube authorization, scheduling, and preparing videos; follow the guide that matches the setup available in your account (Gyre Help Center, “General Questions,” accessed October 3, 2026).
3. Choose and verify the YouTube connection
Gyre documents channel authorization through YouTube’s API, as well as selecting an existing stream key or creating a new one (Gyre, “Gyre update: full live stream automation via the YouTube API,” October 3, 2026). Use the connection method presented by the Gyre workflow you choose. YouTube describes the stream URL and key as information entered in the encoder or streaming application that sends the video (YouTube Help, “Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder,” accessed October 3, 2026). Treat the key as a credential: keep it private, and update the sending application if the key is reset.

4. Review the broadcast details
Before launch, check the title, description, privacy, and other intended broadcast settings in YouTube Studio or in Gyre’s authorization flow. YouTube supports reusing stream settings, which copies metadata, settings, and the key to a new stream (YouTube Help, “Manage live stream settings,” accessed October 3, 2026). Reusing settings is not the same as preserving the existing live broadcast or its watch page.
5. Check monetization if using API-created broadcasts
Gyre says YouTube’s third-party-tools default must be enabled for API-created broadcasts to start with monetization active. Check the channel’s current setting rather than assuming monetization will carry over (Gyre, October 3, 2026).

Plan the cutover and verify the new stream
- Choose an operational window. If even a short interruption matters, tell viewers that a brief break may occur. The cited service and YouTube documentation does not guarantee zero downtime for a Castr-to-Gyre handoff.
- Start the Gyre workflow and inspect its status. Confirm that the intended playlist and YouTube connection are selected, then check Gyre and YouTube’s preview or status before treating the destination as live. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes setting up and starting a broadcast, but does not document a cross-service takeover (YouTube Help, accessed October 3, 2026).
- Stop the Castr feed only when you are ready for the change. Do not assume that leaving both feeds running will preserve one viewer-facing event; the reviewed documentation does not establish how YouTube will handle that situation.
- Check the viewer-facing result. Verify that the new feed is playing, the title and privacy are correct, and the expected broadcast page is the one viewers can access.
- Confirm archive and monetization behavior. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish archive behavior for a continuous 24/7 broadcast, so inspect the channel’s actual archive outcome. If Gyre created the broadcast through the API, check the monetization setting noted above.
