Resetting an adapter interrupts the computer’s network path, but the available official guidance does not establish that this reset always ends a YouTube live event or that OBS’s automatic reconnect will preserve it.
Why an adapter reset can interrupt an OBS stream
OBS sends video directly from your computer to the streaming service; there is no intermediate OBS streaming server. The path runs through the Windows network adapter, your local network and internet route, and finally YouTube’s ingest service. Resetting the adapter can interrupt that path, so OBS may lose its connection to YouTube.
OBS describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as signs of a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. Too many dropped frames can disconnect the encoder. That framing identifies the connection as the problem area; it does not prove that every outage begins on your PC, or that Windows adapter reset is a documented OBS bug.
Check what is still live before changing settings
- Confirm Windows connectivity. Try opening an ordinary website. Then check that the adapter you use for streaming is enabled and connected. If it is Ethernet, inspect the PC, cable, adapter, router, and other relevant connection points.
- Check OBS’s status and log. Look for dropped frames, a disconnected state, or reconnect activity rather than relying only on the interface appearing to stream. OBS’s troubleshooting guide treats dropped frames as evidence of an unstable or insufficient connection to the remote server.
- Let OBS reconnect or trigger a reconnect if needed. OBS has an automatic reconnect option in its Advanced settings. Once Windows connectivity returns, verify that OBS has actually re-established its connection.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Inspect the intended event to see whether it is still receiving data. OBS reconnecting and YouTube recognizing the event as live are separate states; do not assume one guarantees the other.
If the event is no longer receiving data, use the status shown in Live Control Room to decide whether to resume the existing event or start another one. The appropriate action depends on the event’s current state, not solely on the fact that the adapter was reset.

Troubleshoot the connection one change at a time
Start with OBS network settings
- In OBS, open Settings → Advanced and set Bind to IP to Default while troubleshooting, as OBS recommends.
- On Windows, test Enable Network Optimizations and Enable TCP pacing individually. OBS notes that some users report these options help with disconnections; neither is a guaranteed fix.
- Dynamic Bitrate can reduce bitrate under congestion, but it does not fix the underlying connection problem and may lower stream quality.
Change one option at a time and observe the result. If a change makes no difference, restore the previous setting before testing another; otherwise it becomes harder to identify what helped or made matters worse.
Isolate software and routing causes
OBS identifies security software or firewalls, VPNs, bundled network optimization tools such as Lenovo Vantage or Killer NIC, and outdated network drivers as possible contributors to connection trouble. Check your network adapter manufacturer’s site for current drivers. If you briefly test whether security software is interfering, restore your protections immediately afterward. Avoid leaving a firewall or other security feature disabled as a workaround.

Check Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and network hardware
OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming and lists modems, routers, cables, network cards, switches, and extenders among components that can be faulty. Microsoft’s Ethernet troubleshooting guidance also points to the PC, adapter, router, ISP, and USB-to-Ethernet adapter as possible parts of a failure path. If practical, test a known-good cable or a different connection path, changing only one component at a time. These are isolation steps, not established fixes for this particular adapter-reset symptom; replace hardware only after evidence points to a fault.
When to reset your YouTube stream key
An adapter reset is not, by itself, a reason to replace your stream key. YouTube documents resetting a key when you need a replacement, for example if the key has been compromised. In YouTube Studio, go to Go Live → Stream tab → Stream key → Reset, then copy the newly generated key into your encoder. Resetting the key without a reason can introduce another variable while you are trying to diagnose a network interruption.

What to record if the stream keeps dropping
If the problem persists after checking Windows connectivity, OBS, and the event in Live Control Room, collect the details before contacting your ISP or seeking further support. OBS advises contacting the ISP with detailed information when the issue remains, because parts of the route are outside your control.
- The time of the adapter reset and whether it was intentional or automatic.
- The adapter’s identity and driver version, plus your Windows version.
- The relevant OBS log and the status OBS showed during the interruption.
- Whether ordinary web access returned and when.
- What YouTube Live Control Room showed about the event receiving data.
These details help distinguish a Windows or local-network interruption from a route, ISP, ingest, or YouTube event-state issue. The available documentation does not identify a single cause for this exact sequence without those particulars.
