The right workflow depends on what you mean by “rotation”: repeating one playlist, changing what plays during a live stream, or scheduling separate live events.
First, decide what “playlist rotation” means
- Repeat one playlist: YouTube has a playlist loop control for playback. It repeats the current playlist; it does not schedule a switch to another playlist.
- Switch among playlists or sources during a live stream: Streamlabs Desktop uses scenes and sources to build what viewers see and hear. The official quick-start guide explains setting up those elements but does not establish a timed playlist-rotation feature.
- Schedule live events: YouTube Studio can schedule an encoder-based live stream. That schedules the event, not a sequence of playlist changes inside Streamlabs.
These are separate operations. Do not assume that scheduling an event also schedules its content rotation.
Prepare and order the YouTube playlist
- On YouTube from a computer, create a playlist or open one you already manage.
- Add the videos you want and arrange them in the intended order. Set the playlist’s visibility as appropriate for your audience.
- Check that the playlist order reflects the sequence you want viewers to encounter. YouTube playlist management is separate from Streamlabs scenes and sources.

Schedule an encoder-based live event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Choose Manage, then Schedule stream. Create a new stream or reuse settings, and enter the event details and scheduled time.
- Connect your encoder using the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the stream key as a password: do not share or publish it.
- Start the stream from the encoder when you are ready to go live. Confirm the preview and status in Live Control Room before the event begins.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers creating an encoder stream. Its live stream settings guide explains settings and options for managing the event. A scheduled stream can give viewers an upcoming event page they can share and set reminders for; it does not itself rotate playlists.

Set up the Streamlabs Desktop scene
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and select or create the scene you intend to use for the event.
- Add the required sources, such as the media or capture source that supplies the visual content and any audio source needed for the production.
- Arrange and test the scene, then confirm the intended encoder output is connected to the YouTube event using its stream URL and key.
- Run a preview check in YouTube Live Control Room before the scheduled start.
Streamlabs describes scenes as containers for a layout and sources as the visual or audio elements within it. Its Quick Start Guide: Setting Up Streamlabs Desktop for Streaming explains the scene-and-source workflow. The guide does not document a timed control for switching playlists or sources, so these instructions do not promise that Streamlabs will perform such a rotation automatically.
Looping a playlist is not scheduled rotation
YouTube’s loop option repeats a playlist during playback. It is a player control, not an encoder schedule and not proof of a Streamlabs automation that changes from one playlist to another. See YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists.

Plan a recurring schedule viewers can follow
Choose a sustainable cadence, schedule the relevant live events in YouTube Studio, and tell viewers when the schedule changes. YouTube’s live upload schedule tips recommend maintaining a consistent schedule that works for the creator. Reusing stream settings can reduce repeated event setup, but it does not make playlist changes automatic.
If your goal specifically requires timed switching among content sources, verify the current Streamlabs Desktop documentation or controls before relying on an in-app rotation feature. The setup guide cited here does not establish that capability.
