To stream at 720p in OBS, open Settings → Video and set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720. Start with 30 FPS, then choose a bitrate your connection can sustain steadily—not just at the peak of a speed test. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance for 720p is 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended, but a lower, stable setting is better than a higher setting that repeatedly drops frames.
Set OBS to 720p
- In OBS, open Settings → Video.
- Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720. This is the resolution OBS sends to YouTube.
- Leave Base (Canvas) Resolution at the resolution you use to arrange your sources, such as your monitor or game resolution. OBS can scale that canvas to 720p for the stream; changing the canvas alone does not set the stream output to 720p.
- Set Common FPS Values to 30 as your first test. OBS notes that streaming at 60 FPS can be substantially more demanding on the computer. Move to 60 only if both your system and connection handle it reliably.
These steps set the output dimensions and frame rate, but continuity depends on the encoder settings, the upload connection, and a representative test.
Choose a bitrate your connection can hold
YouTube’s listed live encoder guidance gives the following bitrate ranges for 720p. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Indian broadband, mobile-data, or hotspot connection can sustain the stream to YouTube’s ingest server. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
| Video format and frame rate | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| H.264, 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| H.264, 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265, 720p30 or 720p60 | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
If you use H.264, begin within YouTube’s 3–8 Mbps range only if your stable upload can support it. If it cannot, lower the bitrate and test the result; if that still does not hold, reduce the output resolution. A speed-test peak is not the same as sustained upload capacity during a live stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Estimate a conservative starting point
- Run an upload speed test, as YouTube recommends, and focus on the result you can sustain rather than a brief peak.
- Allow for normal variation and other devices using the same connection. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting heuristic when selecting or reducing video bitrate to address dropped frames. It is not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee of stability.
- In OBS, open Settings → Output and set the video bitrate to a value that fits your measured, stable upload capacity and YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Test with the same kind of movement and audio you expect in the actual stream. Watch YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s dropped-frame indicators.
For example, a speed test that briefly reports a high upload rate does not establish that the route to YouTube will remain stable. If the stream drops frames, reduce the bitrate and retest at the place and time you plan to broadcast.
Set the encoder options that matter
YouTube’s listed RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings specify CBR (constant bitrate), a 2-second keyframe interval (do not exceed 4 seconds), and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video. For stereo audio, YouTube lists 128 Kbps. In OBS, configure the available encoder controls under Settings → Output; exact control names can vary with the selected encoder. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings if you need to confirm current guidance.

Do not treat every bitrate number found in an encoder guide as a live-stream recommendation. For example, OBS’s hardware encoding guide lists 3000 Kb/s for 1280×720 at 30 FPS and 6000 Kb/s for 1280×720 at 60 FPS as suggested Apple VideoToolbox recording bitrates; those figures are not a universal YouTube live recommendation. The live settings above are the relevant YouTube guidance for streaming.
Test before relying on a continuous stream
A brief test with a static image may not reveal problems that appear during a moving scene, game, or documentary footage with frequent cuts. Test with representative content and audio, then check YouTube’s stream health while OBS is sending the feed. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple formats for viewers on different devices and networks, but viewer-side quality options cannot fix a broadcaster-side connection that cannot sustain its incoming stream.

For a scheduled broadcast, repeat the test on the connection you will actually use. A wired test and a Wi-Fi test can produce different results, and performance may vary with local conditions. YouTube’s bitrate guidance is not specific to India and cannot predict your ISP, mobile hotspot, congestion, or route to its ingest servers.
Diagnose dropped frames and unstable streaming
OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. A fast speed test does not rule out instability between your setup and the ingest server. Use this order to narrow down the cause; OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide covers these network issues.

| What you see | What to try |
|---|---|
| Dropped frames at the configured bitrate | Lower the video bitrate in Settings → Output, then test again while watching stream health. |
| Wi-Fi is inconsistent, but the internet service has enough upload capacity | Test over Ethernet. A Cat 6 cable can help replace an unstable local Wi-Fi link with a wired one, but it cannot increase your ISP’s upload capacity or solve congestion beyond your home network. |
| Dropped frames continue at a conservative bitrate | If OBS lets you choose another ingest server, test it. Check network software, VPN, and router conditions; contact your ISP if the issue persists. The problem may be in the network path rather than an OBS setting. |
| The connection fluctuates during the stream | OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can lower bitrate during congestion, reducing quality to help avoid dropped frames. It does not fix the underlying connection problem. |
Make one change at a time and retest. Lowering resolution can reduce the data and processing demands, but it changes the picture viewers receive; a wired connection can improve the local link but cannot repair limited upstream service.
