Use a separate OBS Scene Collection for each channel layout, and a separate Profile when the channel’s stream destination or output settings differ. A collection organizes scenes and sources; it does not create another independent broadcast. This setup is suited to switching between channel configurations. If you need distinct channels live simultaneously, treat that as a separate multi-output design problem.
Scene Collection or Profile: which one should you use?
OBS keeps visual arrangements and stream/output configuration in different places. You can pair any suitable Profile with a Scene Collection, so switching one does not automatically switch the other.

OBS’s guidance is direct: “Profiles do NOT store your Scenes — use Scene Collections.” For example, if two channels use the same output configuration but different visual layouts, separate collections may be enough. If their stream accounts or output settings differ, create matching Profiles as well.
Set up a loop for each channel
- Create a collection. In OBS, open the Scene Collection menu and create or duplicate a collection for each meaningfully different channel layout. Give it a clear name, such as
Channel – ambient looporChannel – study loop, so it is easy to identify before a broadcast. - Add a scene and choose a playback source. For one repeating local video, add a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. OBS documents that Loop repeats the file after playback completes and is Off by default. Media Source supports local video and audio on Windows, macOS, and Linux; listed video types include MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. See OBS Media Sources.
- Use a playlist if needed. Add a VLC Video source for a playlist, then configure its playlist, looping, and shuffle options. VLC must be installed; OBS notes that 64-bit VLC is required with 64-bit OBS. Choose shuffle only if you want playback order to vary rather than follow the playlist sequence.
- Match the Profile if configuration differs. Create or select a Profile for the channel’s stream account and output/video settings. Name it clearly, and remember to select both the intended collection and Profile when changing channels; OBS allows them to be mixed and matched.
- Configure the YouTube destination. In that channel’s YouTube Studio Live Control Room, create, schedule, or select the broadcast. Enter that stream’s server URL and stream key in the matching OBS stream configuration. YouTube describes the stream key as a password and address; keep it private and reset it if compromised. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup and stream settings guidance.
- Check before going live. Confirm the active Scene Collection, Profile, destination broadcast, and stream key. Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor both picture and audio. Before depending on a long playlist or loop, check that playback behaves as intended when a clip ends and that the correct source is visible and audible. This is a practical verification step; OBS’s documentation describes the source controls, not a guaranteed outcome for every file or configuration.

Switching channels versus broadcasting simultaneously
Named collections and Profiles help you switch between channel configurations; they do not by themselves establish separate simultaneous outputs. The OBS documentation cited above explains collections and Profiles, but does not specify a supported architecture for sending distinct broadcasts at once. If you need concurrency, verify the separate OBS output design and your computer/network capacity rather than assuming a second collection is another stream.
YouTube’s live-stream help currently lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key, with both limits applying. These are platform limits, not a recipe for configuring multiple OBS outputs. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance when planning a concurrent setup.

Check YouTube eligibility, rights, and monetization expectations
- Eligibility: YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Its guidance also addresses age requirements and adult presence; review the current rules if they apply to your channel. Do not use another channel to evade a live-stream restriction. See Get started with live streaming and Avoid restrictions.
- Copyright: A video being available locally does not establish that you have the rights to stream it. Use material you own or are licensed to use, including music and other embedded content, and address rights claims through YouTube’s applicable process.
- Monetization: Loop is a playback feature, not monetization approval. YouTube’s policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under the existing standard. The policy says the substance should offer material variation and creative, educational, or other value, and defines “video” to include live streams. A loop is not automatically disallowed, but a technically functioning loop is not automatically monetizable either; originality, variation, rights, and channel-wide review matter. Troubleshooting common setup problems

Can I use one OBS Profile with more than one Scene Collection?
Yes. OBS allows Profiles and Scene Collections to be mixed and matched; select the intended pair when switching configurations.
