To fix OBS audio crackling, first find where the distortion starts: at the source, in OBS’s local recording, or only in the YouTube stream. Then check YouTube-compatible audio settings, address PC performance only if OBS shows signs of overload, and run a representative monitored test before leaving a 24/7 stream unattended. There is no single setting that cures every crackle, and a low-end Indian PC may or may not be able to sustain continuous streaming depending on its hardware, configuration, and workload.
Find where the crackling begins
Keep the same audio playing while you make each comparison. Listen to the source outside the stream if possible, record a short local test in OBS, and compare that recording with the YouTube preview or archive. YouTube recommends checking encoder audio and a local archive when stream quality is poor; using those checks to pinpoint the first place the sound distorts is a practical diagnostic method, not a guarantee that YouTube identifies the cause.
- The source already crackles: Start with the microphone, playback source, device connection, or the audio path before OBS. Check whether the same sound is distorted when monitored or played outside the stream.
- The source is clear but the OBS recording crackles: Focus on OBS capture, audio-device configuration, and the local audio path.
- The local recording is clear but the YouTube preview or archive crackles: Inspect OBS output settings and YouTube stream health. This points toward delivery or ingest checks, but does not by itself prove the network is responsible.
Before changing anything, note the OBS version, operating system, audio device and source, sample rates shown in the system and OBS, output audio format, and whether the stream is already live. Keep a copy of the short baseline recording. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether a change affects the result.
Check OBS audio against YouTube’s live settings
For stereo live audio, YouTube’s published encoder settings list a sample rate of 44.1 kHz, an AAC or MP3 audio codec, and 128 kbps. Check the current values in your encoder and OBS output configuration against YouTube’s live encoder settings. These values help avoid format incompatibility; they are not a universal crackling fix.

- Confirm that the system audio device and OBS are using matching sample rates, and check for a mismatch between the primary and backup stream if you have configured one.
- Use one audio stream. YouTube’s live streaming error guidance warns that multiple audio streams can cause ingestion problems and identifies an incorrect codec or sample rate as possible issues.
- If you use 5.1 surround rather than stereo, YouTube lists 48 kHz and 384 kbps for that format. Do not apply the stereo figures to surround audio.
Reduce PC load only when performance points to it
A low-end PC can struggle with a busy scene or demanding encoding workload, but OBS’s performance guidance concerns rendering and encoding trouble; it does not establish GPU overload as the cause of every audio crackle. Look for evidence during a repeatable test: OBS performance warnings, encoding or rendering errors, high CPU or GPU use, or other visible instability. If none appears and the local recording crackles, reducing video quality may not address the audio path.
- Repeat the same scene and audio while watching OBS’s performance indicators and system CPU/GPU use.
- Close only applications you recognize and do not need during the stream.
- Simplify resource-heavy scenes if performance warnings coincide with the problem.
- If OBS reports rendering or encoding difficulty, test a lower frame rate or output resolution, one change at a time. Record again and compare the same section of audio.
OBS’s encoding performance troubleshooting guide explains how scene rendering and encoding use system resources and recommends simpler scenes or, when needed, reducing output resolution or frame rate. Treat those as performance measures—not as a direct prescription for audio crackling.

Separate internet delivery trouble from local audio distortion
OBS identifies dropped frames as a sign of an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. YouTube advises keeping the total stream bitrate below available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% upload headroom, including room for the primary stream, backup stream, and overhead. See OBS’s dropped-frames guidance and YouTube’s streaming tips.
If the local OBS recording is clean but YouTube reports stream-health problems, check that upload capacity is stable and leaves the recommended headroom. Lower video bitrate or resolution only when connection limits or YouTube’s stream-health guidance support doing so. Network buffering or dropped frames can disrupt delivery, but they do not explain crackling already present in the local recording.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

Test before relying on an unattended 24/7 stream
Use the real audio source, typical scene movement, and normal operating conditions in a test. YouTube’s encoder guidance says, “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” Listen to the local recording and YouTube preview, and monitor stream health and errors. Then run a longer monitored trial that reflects your content and setup before leaving it unattended. YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a universal test duration or configuration for a low-end PC.
- If a test still crackles, return to the first point where the distortion appeared and continue from that part of the audio path.
- If the test is clean locally but not on YouTube, check output configuration, stream health, and available upload headroom.
- If performance warnings appear, make one performance change and repeat the test rather than changing several settings at once.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the issue is keeping a pre-recorded YouTube stream running continuously, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is for uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
