Yes, Castr can run a cloud-hosted broadcast of prerecorded videos without your computer staying on—but its documented workflow uses video files uploaded or imported into Castr, not an existing YouTube playlist URL. If by “YouTube playlist” you mean a playlist already on YouTube, Castr’s published instructions do not establish that it can ingest or mirror that playlist directly. You would need to obtain the video files lawfully, add them to Castr, and configure a broadcast.
What Castr can do without your computer
Castr’s prerecorded-streaming feature plays uploaded or imported video files from Castr’s cloud. Its product page says no encoder, OBS, or computer needs to keep running once the broadcast is set up; that is Castr’s description of its service, not an independent uptime guarantee. The practical distinction is between a broadcast assembled inside Castr from media files and a YouTube playlist URL. Castr’s published setup describes the first. It does not confirm direct playlist-URL ingestion, automatic copying of playlist items, or downloading videos from YouTube.
How to set up a prerecorded broadcast in Castr
- Create a prerecorded stream in Castr. Start a new prerecorded streaming setup in the Castr dashboard. Exact dashboard labels may change, so follow the current interface rather than relying on an outdated menu path.
- Add the video files. Upload MP4s or import media from supported cloud storage. Castr’s guide identifies MP4 as the supported file type and says file size and media-file limits depend on the subscription. Castr’s setup guide
- Arrange the files into a playlist. This is a Castr playlist created from the files you provide, not an imported YouTube playlist.
- Choose playback timing. Set the stream to loop or schedule it for a date and time, according to the options available for your plan.
- Add YouTube as a destination. Connect the destination in the Castr dashboard and complete the current account and stream setup prompts. The documentation for this workflow says to add a destination, but does not provide YouTube-specific authorization steps for every account configuration.
- Start or schedule the broadcast. After confirming the media, playlist order, destination, and timing, launch the stream or let the scheduled start take effect.
If the videos are already in a YouTube playlist
Do not assume that pasting a playlist link into Castr will make it rebroadcast those videos. The documented input is video files uploaded to Castr or imported from cloud storage. Before proceeding, make sure you have the right to use and upload each underlying file; a public YouTube link does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast or copy the content.

Also distinguish Castr’s broadcast playlist from its separate viewer-playlist feature. Castr documents playlists made from its livestream and video-on-demand content, with playback options such as autoplay-next, looping, and shuffle. That feature organizes content for viewers; it is not the same as sending prerecorded files as a live broadcast or pulling a playlist from YouTube. Castr’s playlist documentation

Before selecting a plan, check Castr’s current file-size, storage, playlist, looping, and destination limits: its documentation says some limits and capabilities vary by subscription. Confirm the YouTube destination setup in your own dashboard as well.
