This prevents playback from stopping when the file or playlist ends; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast if OBS, your computer, your internet connection, or YouTube stops sending or receiving the stream.
What “without track gaps” means
A loop setting addresses one specific gap: playback ending when a source file or playlist reaches its end. It cannot remove silence or abrupt edits already in the audio, and it cannot prevent a computer crash, encoder failure, network outage, or YouTube interruption. Treat track continuity and livestream continuity as separate problems.
- Track continuity: The files, playlist order, edits, levels, and loop behavior produce the listening experience you want.
- Encoder continuity: OBS stays open and sends the configured audio and video.
- Connection and platform continuity: Your uplink and YouTube ingest remain healthy.
- Rights continuity: The music is authorized for livestream use and, if applicable, its archived replay.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API describes broadcast and stream resources separately and includes health information such as noAudioStream, so a looping file alone is not a stream-health check: YouTube LiveStreams API documentation.
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; its getting-started guide also states a minimum age of 16. Set up a looping stream in OBS
- Create the stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and choose the encoder workflow. Use the stream settings or stream key as directed in the current interface. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. YouTube’s setup guidance is at Manage live stream settings.
- Prepare the audio or video. For one file, add an OBS Media Source and enable its Loop option. For multiple tracks, add a VLC Video source, add the files in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to appear. Follow the controls in OBS Media Sources.
- Check the joins between tracks. Listen through the end of each file and the transition to the next. Look for silence, clipped starts, abrupt edits, or large level changes. Looping restarts playback; it does not edit out a gap embedded at a file boundary.
- Confirm OBS is sending audio and video. Start the encoder, check that the audio meter responds, and inspect YouTube’s live preview and stream-health indicators. The Live Streaming API identifies missing audio as a possible configuration issue; do not assume that a visible video preview means usable audio is reaching YouTube.
- Monitor the running broadcast. Keep the computer, OBS, and network connection running. Check the Live Control Room for health warnings and test your restart or recovery procedure before relying on the stream. A source loop is not a reconnect guarantee, and the available YouTube guidance does not promise universal 24/7 uptime or uninterrupted indefinite broadcasts.
Clear music rights before broadcasting
Use music you created or control, or obtain permission that explicitly covers the intended livestream and any replay. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content; it may replace a stream with a placeholder and warn the creator, and a stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated if the content remains. A license alone may not prevent a Content ID interruption: YouTube advises creators using licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to add the channel to the Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and settle the rights and allowlisting arrangements before going live.
Choose who keeps the encoder running
With OBS on a local computer, you control the files and settings, but the computer and connection must remain available and someone may need to respond to failures. A dedicated mini PC is optional, not a requirement; compare an existing computer or a separate machine for reliability, power use, cooling, operating-system compatibility, and whether you can monitor or restart it. The sources here establish no minimum CPU, memory, storage, or network specification, so test your actual scene and stream rather than buying to an invented minimum.
