Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Short answer: compare the whole monthly bill—including outbound data transfer, regional charges and any overage—not just the VPS headline price. Current official examples include AWS Lightsail Linux bundles at $5/month with 1 TB of transfer and $7/month with 2 TB, Hetzner’s EU cost-optimized CX23 with at least 20 TB of included traffic, and DigitalOcean shared CPU Droplets starting at $4/month. They are not equivalent plans, and none is proven to handle every FFmpeg playlist workload. For a managed alternative, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos looping on YouTube from the cloud; for a self-managed setup, estimate the transfer your bitrate needs and test the actual FFmpeg workload before relying on a small server.
Which VPS is cheapest for a 24/7 playlist stream?
There is no single cheapest choice for every channel. A low monthly compute price can be offset by a small transfer allowance, regional pricing, address charges or taxes. Compare the selected plan’s total cost and traffic terms for the region you will use.
| Provider and plan example | Published offer in the reviewed official source | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Lightsail, Linux/Unix | $5/month: 0.5 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 20 GB SSD and 1 TB transfer. $7/month: 1 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 40 GB SSD and 2 TB transfer. | Regional plan details and exceptions. Both inbound and outbound transfer count toward the allowance; the page says only outbound transfer beyond it incurs overage. The smallest memory plans may constrain additional software. Check Lightsail pricing. |
| Hetzner Cloud, cost-optimized CX23 | 2 Intel/AMD vCPUs, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB NVMe; the EU listing says cloud servers include at least 20 TB traffic. | Current price, location availability, traffic terms and any extras at selection. The line is characterized as low-to-medium CPU usage with variable shared performance, so do not assume it suits transcoding. Check the cost-optimized listing. |
| DigitalOcean shared CPU Droplet | Starts at $4/month. The VPS overview lists video streaming among possible applications. | The transfer pool for the specific plan and current bandwidth terms. Data sent over a public interface counts against the team’s transfer pool; the overview is not a benchmark or proof that the cheapest plan is enough. Review VPS options and Droplet pricing documentation. |
These figures are examples from official provider pages reviewed on October 3, 2026; prices, plan details and availability can change. They are not a like-for-like performance comparison. No identical-workload benchmark establishes which provider runs a given FFmpeg playlist best.

- 【AMD Ryzen 7330U】 – The Efficiency-Tuned Powerhouse,AMD Ryzen 7330U (Zen 3, SMT, 4C/8T) in KAMRUI P2 mini PC crushes rivals: Intel i3-10110U (2C/4T, 2019) and N95 (4 efficiency cores, no HT, single-channel memory). Vs predecessor Ryzen 3 4300U (4C/4T): ~50% faster single-core, ~46% multi-core, 8MB L3 cache (vs 4MB). Beats both Intel chips hugely in multi-core, making heavy multitasking, coding, data work smooth at just 15W TDP. High-end power in a cool, efficient box.
- 【AMD Radeon Graphics】– Triple 4K Vision & Fluidity,The integrated Radeon Graphics (based on the modern Vega architecture with 6 CUs) is a visual beast, outclassing the iGPU offerings from both AMD's prior generation and Intel. The Intel UHD Graphics (i3-10110U/N95) struggles with single-channel memory and low execution units, crippling its gaming performance and barely handling basic 4K video without stuttering. While the older Radeon Vega 5 (4300U) was decent, our 7330U's Radeon Graphics (6 CUs) pushes the boundaries, delivering higher graphics clock speeds (up to 1.8GHz) and significantly better rendering capabilities. It can drive triple 4K@60Hz displays with zero lag, edit photos/videos.
- 【Generous Storage & Easy Expansion】The KAMRUI Pinova P2 mini desktop computers comes with 16GB LPDDR4X RAM (higher frequency, lower power) for buttery‑smooth multitasking, and a 256GB M.2 SSD for blazing fast boot‑up, quick file transfers, and no more long loading screens. - 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
bitrate in bits/second × seconds streamed ÷ 8 = bytes sent
At a constant 5 Mbps for a 30-day month, the encoded output is roughly 1.62 TB before protocol overhead. This is a calculation from the bitrate and duration, not a provider measurement. Use the provider’s own GB/TB convention and leave margin for overhead and other traffic on the server.
- Lightsail counts inbound and outbound data toward its plan allowance, but says only outbound overage is charged; check regional exceptions.
- DigitalOcean counts data sent over a public interface against the team transfer pool; confirm the selected plan’s allowance.
- Hetzner’s cited at-least-20-TB traffic figure applies to EU cloud servers in the cost-optimized listing. Confirm location and terms for the server you can actually order.
Choose a plan for the FFmpeg workload, not a generic minimum
The server requirement depends on what FFmpeg does. If the source files already match the intended output and FFmpeg can copy the encoded streams, the CPU workload differs substantially from transcoding, adding filters or overlays, or changing resolution and frame rate. Memory, local playlist storage, codec, file format and network route also matter.

The available provider information does not establish an exact minimum vCPU or RAM for an unspecified playlist and command. Do not treat the smallest plan as guaranteed to work, or assume that a bigger CPU specification proves stable streaming. Run the actual workload at the intended settings, monitor CPU use and dropped frames, and retain headroom before leaving it unattended.
Consider where the playlist files live
Compare local disk capacity with the size of the files you plan to keep on the VPS. If files are fetched from elsewhere, consider that setup and its network use separately. The listed Lightsail examples provide 20 GB or 40 GB SSD; the cited CX23 listing provides 40 GB NVMe. Those capacities may be insufficient for a large local archive even if transfer is ample.
Consider the operating work
A self-managed VPS means installing and configuring FFmpeg, protecting the YouTube stream key, supervising the process, retaining useful logs, and checking recovery after failures or reboots. The compute price does not include that maintenance. A managed streaming service is a different purchase: it exchanges server administration for a hosted workflow.

Use YouTube’s ingest settings as the output target
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. For H.264, its table recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. The table also lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p30, and 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended for 1080p60. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee of sustained performance from a VPS or a requirement that every stream use those exact settings.
- Use the resolution, frame rate and codec that match the intended program and source material.
- For audio, YouTube’s guidance lists AAC or MP3; its stereo audio recommendation is 128 Kbps.
- Allow network upload capacity for the encoded video, audio and protocol overhead, with margin. The video bitrate alone is not the full traffic figure.
- Test with media that has movement and audio similar to the planned stream, then monitor YouTube stream health and messages.
YouTube says it recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Consult its current encoder page before configuring the ingest URL and settings, as guidance can change.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSet up and validate the self-managed VPS
The exact command depends on the source files, codecs and whether you are copying or transcoding streams, so a universal FFmpeg command would risk being wrong for your setup. Use this validation sequence before treating the server as an always-on channel:

- Select the region and plan. Confirm current price, transfer allowance and overage rules, local storage, availability, and any regional extras in the provider checkout.
- Prepare the media and output. Decide the playlist order, target resolution, frame rate, codec and audio format. Check that the files can be read and that the chosen FFmpeg process either copies compatible streams or has enough compute capacity for the required processing.
- Configure YouTube ingest. In YouTube Studio, use the channel’s live-stream settings to obtain its stream key and ingest details. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to the channel. Use the current YouTube encoder guidance for protocol and output settings.
- Run a short test from the VPS. Test representative video and audio at the intended output settings. Check YouTube’s stream-health messages, server CPU and memory, and FFmpeg output for errors or dropped frames.
- Measure transfer and leave headroom. Compare expected monthly traffic from the bitrate calculation with the plan allowance. Account for audio, protocol overhead and any other server traffic.
- Configure supervision and recovery. Arrange for the process to restart after failure or reboot, keep logs that help diagnose failures, and verify recovery deliberately before relying on unattended operation.
- Check it after launch. Confirm that the stream remains healthy and that the playlist continues as intended. Review alerts or logs rather than assuming a running VPS means a healthy YouTube broadcast.
Other VPS-style routes
Vultr documents a preconfigured remote OBS application called Broadcaster, including YouTube setup and uploaded source files for 24/7 streams. Its guide calls for an A16 GPU instance. That is a different, potentially more resource-intensive OBS workflow—not evidence that GPU hardware is required for a headless FFmpeg playlist stream. See Vultr’s Broadcaster guide if that workflow fits your needs.
Common problems and what to check
- The stream stops after a short time: inspect FFmpeg output and YouTube stream-health messages; check network interruptions and whether the process is supervised to restart.
- The VPS bill exceeds the headline price: compare actual outbound volume with the plan transfer pool, overage terms, regional pricing and extras. A continuous 5 Mbps output is already roughly 1.62 TB over 30 days before overhead.
- CPU stays high or frames drop: determine whether FFmpeg is transcoding or applying filters instead of copying compatible streams. Test the intended workload, then choose more capacity or simplify processing if necessary.
- The playlist cannot fit on the server: compare the media archive size with available disk, or revise how files are stored and accessed.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: check output bitrate, CBR configuration, keyframe interval, ingest protocol and the server’s sustained upload. Test with representative movement and audio.
- The broadcast does not resume after a reboot: check the process supervisor configuration, logs, stream-key setup and the recovery behavior you verified during testing.
- The stream key may have been exposed: treat it as a credential. Restrict access to configuration and logs, and replace the key in YouTube Studio if necessary.
