Live access and monetization are separate decisions: live streaming depends on YouTube’s access requirements and any active restrictions, while reused content is assessed under channel monetization policies. Check the channel’s status and notices in YouTube Studio for the answer that applies to your account.
Does reused content stop you from going live?
YouTube’s published live-streaming requirements do not list reused content, by itself, as an automatic disqualification. You still need to meet the general eligibility checks and have no applicable live-stream restriction. YouTube also says it may restrict a creator’s ability to stream, so meeting the baseline does not guarantee access in every case. YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements
Reused content is principally a monetization-policy issue. YouTube defines it as material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Live-stream access and monetization are different

As a result, a channel may be able to stream while not being monetized, or may face a monetization decision about reused content without reused content itself being the reason live access is unavailable.

Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements
YouTube’s Help page, accessed October 3, 2026, states that a channel must be verified and have had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days; the person streaming must be at least 16. These are published baseline requirements, not a guarantee that a particular channel is cleared. Some methods, including mobile streaming, have additional requirements. Get started with live streaming
- Check verification. Confirm that the channel has completed YouTube’s channel verification process.
- Review recent restrictions. Check whether YouTube has applied a live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days.
- Confirm the streamer’s age and method. The person streaming must be at least 16; check the extra requirements if using mobile streaming.
- Read the account’s notices. In YouTube Studio, review channel status and any enforcement notification. The public Help pages describe general criteria but cannot show the current status of your specific channel.
What can disable live streaming?
YouTube identifies policy-related circumstances that can temporarily or permanently remove live-streaming ability, including age-related violations, Community Guidelines issues, and copyright restrictions. A live-stream restriction is a direct blocker even if the channel’s videos are otherwise eligible for monetization. Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming

Do not try to bypass an active restriction by streaming from another channel. YouTube prohibits using another channel to circumvent a live-streaming restriction. Check the notice for the specific reason and any instructions YouTube provides rather than treating reused content as the presumed cause.
How reused content affects monetization review
The key question under YouTube’s reused-content policy is whether the channel adds meaningful original value—not simply whether the creator has permission to use the material. YouTube’s TeamYouTube FAQ gives examples of content that may violate the policy even when a creator has permission. Its April 25, 2024 explanation says reused content is allowed when viewers can tell there is a meaningful difference between the original video and the creator’s video. TeamYouTube reused-content FAQ

- Adding substantial original commentary, analysis, or educational context can help distinguish a work from the source material.
- Substantive transformation matters more than merely assembling, reposting, or making minor edits to existing footage.
- Reviewers consider the channel overall, including its videos and descriptions, rather than judging only one upload.
- Permission to use footage does not, by itself, establish compliance with monetization policy.
YouTube said its July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and did not change the reused-content policy. The applicable policy page is the place to check for current wording.
Why is live streaming disabled on my channel?
If YouTube Studio shows live streaming as unavailable, work from the account notice rather than guessing based on whether the channel contains reused material.

- Channel not verified: Complete the verification requirement and check again.
- Restriction in the last 90 days: Review the enforcement notice and the live-streaming restrictions page for the reason and status.
- Age or policy issue: Check the account notice for age-related, Community Guidelines, or copyright issues that may affect streaming.
- Mobile method requirements: If you are trying to stream from a phone, verify the additional mobile requirements; the baseline requirements alone may not be enough.
- No visible explanation: Review YouTube Studio’s channel status and notices. General public policy pages cannot determine an individual channel’s current eligibility.
