Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallUse OBS Studio on your Mac mini to play a local video into a YouTube Live event: add the file as a Media Source, connect OBS with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, start the encoder, check the preview, and click Go live. Enable the source’s Loop option if you want the video to replay. The Mac mini must stay powered on and connected while OBS is streaming.
Before you start
- Install OBS Studio. Its current product page lists macOS 13.0 or newer; check the requirements for the version you install.
- Have the video file available on the Mac mini or an attached drive. OBS plays a local file; an external SSD is optional, not required.
- Check that your YouTube channel can go live. YouTube says first-time live-streaming activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Use an upload connection that can reliably sustain the bitrate you choose. The Mac mini generation, macOS version, file format, and connection speed are unspecified, so no particular model’s performance can be guaranteed.
This sends the video through an encoder as a live broadcast; it is not the same as uploading the file as a regular YouTube video.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or schedule an encoder stream, then set the title, visibility, and other event details. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted privacy settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the Live Control Room. Keep the key private: YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and live stream settings guidance.
Add the pre-recorded video in OBS
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select +, choose Media Source, and create a source. Browse to the video file and select it.
- Enable Loop if the video should start again automatically when it reaches the end. OBS documents this option as off by default. Leave it off for a one-time playback.
- Check the OBS preview and audio meters. Confirm that the video is framed correctly and that its audio is present at a sensible level.
OBS documents Media Source support on macOS and common formats including MP4 and MOV. For a playlist, OBS documents a VLC Video source; VLC must be installed for that source to appear. See OBS Media Sources.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings and select Stream.
- Choose YouTube as the service, then enter the stream URL and key from the Live Control Room. If the OBS version offers a YouTube account connection instead, use that supported flow and confirm that it selects the intended event.
- Save the settings. Do not share screenshots or recordings that expose the stream key.
OBS interface labels can vary by version. If you cannot find the URL/key fields, consult the current OBS and YouTube instructions rather than pasting the key into an unrelated field.
Choose encoder settings
YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport where supported. Use a supported video codec—H.264, H.265, or AV1—and AAC or MP3 audio. Choose settings compatible with your source and connection; YouTube’s recommendations are ingestion guidance, not a promise of visual quality or a Mac mini performance benchmark.

| H.264 example format | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These figures are YouTube’s published H.264 examples in its encoder-settings guidance, accessed in 2026. Its full recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Start with a format your source supports and your upload connection can sustain, then test it. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and RTMPS guidance.
Test, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Allow time to set up: YouTube advises setting up an encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- In OBS, start streaming. Wait for the incoming feed and preview to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
- Check the video, audio, and event details. For a scheduled broadcast, click Go live in the Live Control Room only after the preview is ready.
- During the broadcast, monitor OBS and YouTube for audio/video problems. If the file is meant to repeat, verify that playback returns to its beginning when it ends.
The preparation intervals are YouTube’s published advice, not technical guarantees. Read its streaming tips.

Stop the stream and handle the archive
When finished, stop the encoder output in OBS and end the event in YouTube as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A YouTube archive is not necessarily the same file or location as a local OBS recording; if you need a local copy, record locally and verify that the file was saved.
Troubleshooting
- You cannot go live yet: If live streaming is newly enabled, activation may take up to 24 hours. Check the channel’s eligibility and Live Control Room status.
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: Confirm OBS is streaming to the correct event and that the stream URL and key match. Check OBS’s connection status and the key’s accuracy without exposing it.
- The video stops at the end: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop if continuous replay is intended.
- The playlist source is missing: OBS’s documented VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed.
- The stream buffers or quality drops: Reduce the output bitrate or choose a lower resolution/frame rate that the upload connection can sustain; compare your settings with YouTube’s current encoder table.
- The picture appears but there is no sound: Check the source’s audio routing and OBS meters, then confirm the Live Control Room receives audio before going live.
- You need to protect the event from viewers: Set its privacy in YouTube Studio before launch. Private and unlisted are distinct settings; confirm you chose the intended one.
