Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →To change the visibility of a 24/7 stream’s archive, open YouTube Studio, go to Content, select the Live tab, open the video’s details, choose Private or Unlisted under Visibility, then save. For a new encoder or mobile stream, choose its visibility in Live Control Room during setup. A 24/7 broadcast may not produce a complete YouTube replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Choose private or unlisted based on who should watch
| Setting | Who can watch | Discovery and sharing | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private | You and people you invite. YouTube’s sharing flow asks you to enter invitees’ email addresses. | Does not appear in YouTube search or on your channel’s Videos tab. | Unavailable. |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link. | Does not appear in YouTube search or on your channel’s Videos tab, unless someone adds it to a public playlist. Viewers can forward or otherwise reshare the link. | Available. |
Choose Private if access should be limited to specific invitees. Choose Unlisted if anyone who has the link may watch. Unlisted is not access control for a named group: the URL can be shared.
Change the visibility of an existing live stream or archive
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- In the left menu, select Content.
- Select the Live tab to find live uploads.
- Open the relevant video’s details or visibility control.
- Under Visibility, select Private or Unlisted.
- Save the change.
YouTube documents changing a live archive’s privacy from the Live tab and says archive privacy can also be changed from the Content page. The exact control shown may vary as YouTube updates Studio.
Set visibility when starting a new stream
For a new encoder or mobile stream, choose the visibility in the stream’s details in Live Control Room. The webcam setup flow has its own privacy choice; its instructions are separate from the encoder and mobile live-stream settings. If the broadcast should not be public from the outset, set the intended visibility during setup rather than relying on a later change.

What private or unlisted does—and does not—do for a 24/7 broadcast
Visibility affects access, not whether the stream is continuously available
Private and unlisted are audience-visibility settings. They do not turn a 24/7 broadcast into an invitation-only live event in every respect, nor do they guarantee a complete archive. Check the stream’s visibility and the actual viewer experience after saving, especially if you are sharing it with a limited audience.
A 24/7 stream may not have a complete replay
YouTube says it can automatically archive a stream that is less than 12 hours long; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume a continuous 24/7 broadcast will leave a complete replay. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup if preserving the full program matters.

Changing an active stream is not established for every stream type
YouTube’s documented instructions cover setting visibility for a new stream and changing privacy on an archive. They do not clearly establish that every type of stream can be switched between private and unlisted in place while it is actively live, without interruption. For an active broadcast, do not promise viewers that changing the setting will work uninterrupted; use the documented archive control after the stream, or choose visibility during setup for a new stream.
Troubleshoot visibility problems
- The stream is not listed under Live: Confirm you are in YouTube Studio’s Content area and have selected the Live tab, then open the relevant upload’s details.
- A person cannot watch a private video: Private viewing is limited to the owner and invited people. Check that the intended viewer was invited using the private-video sharing flow and the relevant email address.
- An unlisted stream is visible to someone else: Anyone with its link can watch and reshare it. If link possession is not an acceptable access rule, use Private instead.
- An unlisted video appears on a public playlist: YouTube says an unlisted video may appear if someone adds it to a public playlist. Check public playlists if you do not expect that discovery path.
- There is no complete replay: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. For a 24/7 program, keep a local recording if a complete archive is important.
- You cannot find a visibility change for an actively live stream: The documented archive-editing workflow is not proof that every live stream type can be changed in place without interruption. Set visibility before starting a new stream, or edit the archive using the documented Content/Live-tab control.
