First check the actual YouTube playback and identify whether audio or video arrives first. If audio is early, adjust the affected audio source’s Sync Offset in OBS; if video is early, delay the video source instead. Recheck the public playback after each change.
First identify what is out of sync
For a live broadcast—or a sequence of videos played through OBS—check the stream as viewers receive it. Use a clear, repeatable cue, such as a visible clap paired with its sound, and note which comes first. A preview or broadcaster monitor may not match public playback, especially when a broadcast delay is configured.
- Audio arrives before the matching visual event: delay the affected audio source.
- Video arrives before its matching sound: delay the video source.
- Audio and video agree with each other, but the whole stream reaches viewers late: investigate YouTube latency, network conditions, and the ingestion protocol. A source sync offset does not solve end-to-end viewer delay.
Do not start with a guessed millisecond value. The right adjustment depends on the source, playback chain, and measured mismatch in your setup.
Adjust the OBS source that is early
If audio is early, use the audio source’s Sync Offset
In OBS, open the Audio Mixer, select the affected source’s gear menu, and choose Advanced Audio Properties. Find that source’s Sync Offset field and adjust it to delay the audio. The OBS source reference describes this as an audio sync offset for a source: OBS Studio source reference.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Change the value in small increments, then check the same cue in the actual YouTube playback. If the offset makes the sound arrive later than the image, reduce it or return it to its previous value and measure again. A source-level setting affects that source, so make sure you have selected the audio path that viewers actually hear.
If video is early, delay the image
Use a video delay control on the source whose image needs to wait. OBS’s Render Delay filter delays a source image; OBS documents it as useful for synchronizing webcam image with microphone audio. See the OBS Render Delay Filter documentation. The control is relevant when video is early, not as a substitute for audio Sync Offset when audio is early.

Verify the viewer feed, not just OBS preview
After a change, check public YouTube playback using the same cue. If your production uses a monitor stream or broadcast delay, distinguish the broadcaster’s monitor from the feed viewers receive. YouTube’s API documents a monitor stream for reviewing content before it is shown publicly, and treats broadcast delay as a separate setting: LiveBroadcasts API reference and YouTube Live Streaming API overview.
The API overview includes a worked cuepoint example with a 60-second broadcast delay and a 5-second buffer at either end of the offset window. Those are example timing values for cuepoints, not recommended OBS sync offsets.

Separate source sync from YouTube viewer latency
OBS Sync Offset changes the timing of an audio source relative to the OBS output. YouTube live latency is the time between capture and display to viewers. If audio and video stay aligned but viewers see the whole broadcast late, adjusting a source offset can make lip sync worse without making the stream arrive sooner.
YouTube explains that a smaller player read-ahead buffer can reduce latency but leaves playback more exposed to encoder or player problems. Network congestion can also add delay even when a connection can sustain the stream’s average bitrate. YouTube recommends normal latency for streams that do not need audience interaction, because it offers the lowest viewer buffering among its described choices. See Understand live streaming latency.

Check protocol and latency settings only when the whole stream is late
Ingestion protocol can affect end-to-end latency, but it does not by itself identify a source-level lip-sync fault. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because HLS sends video in segments, and ultra-low latency is unavailable with HLS. Its HLS guide specifies segment durations from 1 to 4 seconds, with lower durations producing lower latency; these are YouTube’s documented HLS requirements and guidance, not a universal OBS preset. See Set up an HLS stream.
The LiveBroadcasts API lists normal, low, and ultra-low latency preferences. YouTube notes that low latency may affect smoothness; ultra-low latency reduces viewer delay further but does not support closed captions or resolutions above 1080p. These choices concern viewer delay and stream behavior, not the correct Sync Offset for an individual OBS source.

Common sync problems and fixes
| What you observe | Likely distinction | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Sound happens before the matching image | Audio is early relative to video. | Adjust the affected source’s audio Sync Offset, then verify public playback. |
| Image happens before the matching sound | Video is early relative to audio. | Use a video delay control, such as OBS Render Delay where appropriate. |
| OBS preview appears aligned, but YouTube playback does not | The observed feed may differ, particularly if a monitor stream or broadcast delay is involved. | Use a repeatable cue in public playback and confirm which feed you are assessing. |
| Audio and video are aligned, but viewers receive the stream late | This is viewer latency, not necessarily source sync. | Review YouTube latency mode, network conditions, and ingestion protocol rather than adding a source offset. |
| A change fixes one source but not another | The sources may have different timing paths. | Confirm the selected mixer/source path and diagnose each affected source against the same kind of cue. |
Optional measurement tool
The community project obs-audio-video-sync-dock describes measuring audio/video latency. Its documentation says positive latency means audio is lagged and video is early, while negative latency means audio is early and video is lagged; it then points to audio Sync Offset or video delay filters accordingly. Treat it as optional project software, not independent validation or a guarantee of compatibility with every setup. Check its current availability and compatibility before relying on it.
