Facebook’s current guidance is that videos shared on Facebook are Reels, and Reels can be any length or orientation. Meta has not published a universal technical specification for organic uploads covering resolution, codec, container, frame rate, or maximum file size in the official guidance reviewed here. For most creators, choose the aspect ratio that suits the footage and check the upload in Facebook rather than relying on a supposed universal spec sheet.
What are the current Facebook video requirements?
Meta announced on June 17, 2025, and updated the announcement on July 14, 2025, that Facebook would share all new videos as Reels, removing the choice between uploading a video and a Reel. Meta also says Facebook Reels have no length or format restrictions. Its updated Help Center guidance says Reels can be any length or orientation.
That statement concerns organic publishing flexibility; it is not a technical export table. The official organic guidance cited here does not set one required resolution, aspect ratio, codec, file container, frame rate, or maximum file size. Treat exact figures circulated elsewhere as unverified unless Facebook provides them for the specific upload method or placement you are using.
Recommended size and orientation for an organic Facebook video
Facebook’s updated organic guidance allows any orientation. Choose based on the material and where viewers are likely to watch: vertical footage suits a phone-first composition, while landscape can better preserve documentary scenes, interviews, and archival material framed wide. These are editorial choices, not mandatory Facebook dimensions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Keep important faces, subtitles, and visual evidence away from the extreme edges so they remain readable if the player or interface crops or overlays the image.
- Export at a resolution appropriate to the original footage and your intended viewing experience; the cited official organic pages do not establish a universal minimum or maximum.
- Review the finished upload on a phone and desktop when both audiences matter. Confirm that framing, text, and captions remain legible.
Formats, codecs, frame rate, and file-size limits
For ordinary organic uploads, the official Meta and Facebook pages cited here do not give a universal codec, file-container, frame-rate, resolution, or file-size ceiling. This means there is no substantiated one-size-fits-all technical specification to quote from those pages. Do not mistake specifications for paid ad placements or claims from third-party summaries for organic upload requirements.
If Facebook rejects a file, use the message shown in the upload flow as the applicable guidance for that file and account. Check that the export completed correctly, the file plays locally, and the connection is stable before trying again. If available, export a standard playable video file from your editing application and retry; that is a troubleshooting step, not a claim that Meta specifies one mandatory codec or container.

How long can a Facebook video be?
Meta’s current announcement says Facebook Reels have no length restrictions, and the updated Help Center discovery page says they can be any length. A separate Help Center page for creating a Reel still says “up to 90 seconds.” That legacy wording conflicts with the later announcement, so it should not be treated as Facebook’s universal current duration limit.
For a long documentary or extended program, plan around the content and audience rather than cutting it solely to meet the old 90-second line. Facebook’s no-length-restriction statement does not guarantee that every account, upload route, or feature will behave identically; follow any limit explicitly displayed in your own publishing flow.

Organic videos and Reels ads are not the same specification
Meta’s advertising guidance recommends 9:16 vertical video for Reels ads, with audio and key messages kept in the safe zone so interface elements do not obscure them. Those are recommendations for paid creative, not universal requirements for organic Facebook video. If you are preparing an ad, keep the composition guidance distinct from the more flexible organic publishing guidance.
Add captions to a Facebook video
Facebook Help Center documents adding captions to a video posted to a profile or Page by uploading a SubRip (.srt) file. Prepare the caption file in sync with the final edit, then attach it in the caption or subtitle controls available during publishing or editing. Check the result after processing for timing, spelling, and readability.

Quick pre-publish checklist
- Choose vertical, square, or landscape framing to serve the footage; organic guidance does not require one orientation.
- Do not use the old “up to 90 seconds” line as a universal current limit; Meta’s 2025 announcement says no length restriction.
- Keep key imagery and on-screen text comfortably inside the frame.
- Attach an SRT caption file if you have one, then inspect caption timing after upload.
- For paid Reels ads, follow the separate 9:16 and safe-zone creative recommendations.
- When Facebook surfaces an account- or upload-specific rejection, use that message rather than assuming an unsupported universal limit.
