Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo loop several short clips as a YouTube Live broadcast, create an OBS scene with a VLC Video Source, add the clips in order, and enable Loop Playlist. YouTube’s playlist-repeat button only repeats playback for viewers; it does not send your playlist as a live broadcast. No setting guarantees a black-frame-free transition for every file, so test the full playlist and inspect the stream preview before going live.
What you need to loop clips on a live broadcast
You need an encoder that plays the clips and sends the resulting picture and sound to YouTube Live. OBS can do this with a VLC Video Source for a multi-clip playlist, or a Media Source if you only need to repeat one file. YouTube describes encoder streams in its live-stream setup guidance.
Do not confuse this with YouTube’s viewer-side option to repeat a video or playlist in the YouTube player. That repeats playback for someone watching; it does not create a live feed from your clips. See YouTube’s playlist-loop instructions.
Set up an ordered playlist in OBS
Install VLC and add the clips
- Install OBS and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video Source requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well.
- In OBS, create a scene for the broadcast, then add a VLC Video Source.
- Add your short clips to the source’s playlist in the order you want them to play. Keep Shuffle Playlist off if sequence matters.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS documents this option as enabled by default, and Shuffle Playlist as off by default; verify both settings rather than relying on defaults.
- Set the source’s size and position in the scene, and confirm the audio meters move when a clip plays.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes the VLC Video Source playlist options and the single-file alternative.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For one clip, use Media Source
If you only need one video to repeat, add an OBS Media Source instead of a VLC Video Source and enable Loop. OBS says that this restarts the file when playback completes. For multiple clips, use the VLC Video Source playlist.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Start the OBS stream and wait for the incoming picture to appear in YouTube’s preview. Start or schedule the public event in YouTube Studio according to your event setup.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to create a stream and connect an encoder.

Reduce the chance of black frames at clip boundaries
Loop and Loop Playlist control what happens when a file or playlist reaches its end; they do not promise frame-perfect, gap-free transitions for every media file, codec, frame rate, or duration. Test the actual clips as one complete sequence. Watch each boundary in OBS and in YouTube’s incoming preview, and listen for audio gaps as well as checking the picture.
- Do not unload the only picture source during a critical transition. OBS warns that when Close file when inactive is enabled, a source may take a short time to reload after it is shown again. A cover scene or already-rendered background can hide a reload interval when switching scenes, but it cannot repair a gap inside the media itself.
- Check every file end and start. If a black frame appears at the same point on each loop, inspect the media around that boundary; the loop setting cannot remove black frames already present in a clip.
- Test the whole run, not just the first clip. A playlist can appear correct at startup yet reveal a problem at a later transition or when it returns to the first clip.
OBS documents the reload caveat in its Media Sources guidance. YouTube Help advises, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream,” and recommends checking the preview and monitoring stream quality: see YouTube live streaming tips and streaming tips.

Choose YouTube encoder settings for your output
For YouTube’s documented RTMP/RTMPS configuration, its current encoder-settings page lists H.264 among supported codecs, calls for CBR, recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, and says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so choose the row matching your output rather than applying one bitrate to every stream.
| H.264 output example | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s encoder-ingestion recommendations on its live encoder settings page, accessed October 3, 2026; they are not measured results for a particular OBS setup. Check that your internet upload can sustain the chosen bitrate, test before the event, and monitor the incoming audio and video while live.

Troubleshooting black frames and playback failures
| Symptom | Likely cause to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Only one clip plays, or the playlist does not start | VLC is missing, or VLC and OBS have mismatched 64-bit architecture | Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; reopen OBS and test the VLC Video Source. |
| Clips play in an unexpected order | Shuffle Playlist is enabled or the files were added in the wrong order | Turn off Shuffle Playlist and arrange the list as intended. |
| The sequence ends instead of repeating | Loop Playlist is off | Enable Loop Playlist and test through the end of the final clip and back to the first. |
| A brief blank appears after hiding and showing a source | Close file when inactive can cause a reload interval | Avoid unloading the sole visible picture source during a critical transition; use a cover scene for scene changes. |
| A black frame appears at the same clip boundary on each pass | The gap may be in the media or its transition rather than the loop control | Inspect the end of the outgoing file and start of the next one, then test the corrected sequence in OBS and YouTube’s preview. |
| YouTube preview does not show the OBS output | The encoder may not be connected to the selected stream, or the stream key or URL may be incorrect | Check the stream URL and key against the selected YouTube encoder stream, reconnect, and wait for preview before starting the event. |
| Picture or sound quality is unstable | Output settings may not match YouTube’s recommendations or available upload capacity | Check codec, CBR, keyframe interval, and the bitrate row for your resolution and frame rate; test and monitor the stream. |
