Streamlabs Talk Studio is a browser-based studio for hosting live shows and recordings with remote guests, screen sharing and on-screen branding. Its Standard and Pro plans differ in resolution, guest limits, destinations and recording allowances; those limits matter more than a simple free-versus-paid comparison. This review summarizes the features and plan details listed by Streamlabs and compares Talk Studio with the directly relevant browser-based alternative StreamYard. It does not claim independent testing of either service.

What is Streamlabs Talk Studio?

Talk Studio runs in a web browser and is designed for live shows and recordings that bring together a host, remote guests and shared screens. Streamlabs lists Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, X (Twitter), LinkedIn and other destinations on its product page. Its getting-started guide covers account setup, browser camera and microphone permissions, choosing a destination, layouts, guests, broadcasting and recording.

The product was previously called Melon. On May 15, 2023, Streamlabs announced the change to Talk Studio, saying the goal was to unify its tools and that features and functionality were not changing at that time. That announcement documents the rebrand, not a guarantee that every detail has remained unchanged since.

Talk Studio plans and prices

Streamlabs’ plan page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists paid Standard and Pro plans. Prices and included features can change, so check the current plan page before subscribing. The page also says Talk Studio Pro is included with Streamlabs Ultra and advertises a seven-day trial; check eligibility and current subscription terms on the page.

These are the limits and prices shown on the Streamlabs plan page accessed October 3, 2026; the page’s feature list does not establish how the service performs under every network or production condition. The recording guide gives a separate allowance of four hours per session on Standard and ten hours per session on Pro. Those session limits should not be confused with the plan page’s per-track limits.

Setup, browser and upload requirements

Talk Studio does not require installation. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide recommends Google Chrome or Safari and calls for at least 5 Mbps upload. Its bandwidth table recommends 10 Mbps for 720p and 20 Mbps for 1080p. These are Streamlabs recommendations in its guide, updated October 1, 2025—not independently verified minimums or a guarantee of a stable broadcast.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  1. Sign in and grant permissions: create or access a Streamlabs account, open Talk Studio in a supported browser, and allow access to the camera and microphone you intend to use.
  2. Choose a destination: connect the social destination for the show. Standard lists one destination; Pro supports multistreaming to unlimited destinations according to the plan page.
  3. Set up the scene: select a layout and check how the camera, screen share, guests and branding appear before broadcasting.
  4. Invite guests: send an invitation link or email. Guests first enter a queue; move them onto the live show when ready. The guide says a co-host can invite guests, control design elements, adjust layouts and change configurations.
  5. Check the connection and recording plan: compare available upload speed with Streamlabs’ recommendations and choose cloud or local recording as appropriate. Make a short test recording before an important event to confirm your devices, audio and intended workflow.

Streamlabs’ guide says Standard supports up to five guests and Pro up to eleven, including co-hosts. These are plan limits, not a promise that every guest’s device or connection will produce identical results.

Recording: cloud files and separate tracks

The official recording guide describes two options. Cloud recording saves a recording online and also makes an audio-only file available. Local recording captures separate audio and video tracks for each participant, which can give an editor more flexibility to balance voices or revise a recorded show. Streamlabs says local recording is not supported on mobile devices.

  • Plan session length: the recording guide lists up to four hours per session on Standard and ten hours per session on Pro. The plan page separately lists the same durations per track; check the current terms if your recording depends on a particular limit.

Branding and production controls

Streamlabs’ branding guide describes controls in the studio for shaping a show, while the plan page determines which items are included at each tier.

  • Design tab: add logos, studio backgrounds and overlays.
  • Styles: set brand color, font and theme.
  • Text: create banners and tickers, or add teleprompter text.
  • Additional options: the guide describes intro and outro video and virtual-background options.

Pro is the tier whose plan page specifically lists unlimited branding and uploaded media. The existence of a production control in the guide should not be taken to mean every associated asset or unlimited use is included on Standard.

Talk Studio vs. StreamYard

StreamYard is a relevant alternative for creators who want a browser-based studio with guests and streaming or recording features. The following comparison reflects features and prices listed on StreamYard’s pricing page accessed October 3, 2026. StreamYard prices can be affected by promotions and renewal terms; consult its page for the price applicable to your account.

Plan or factor Streamlabs Talk Studio StreamYard
Entry-level option listed Paid Standard: $9 monthly or $90 per year billed annually Free plan listed
Resolution Standard: 720p; Pro: 1080p Core lists 1080p; Free resolution not stated in the cited plan details
Destinations Standard: one; Pro: unlimited Core: three; Advanced: eight
People in the studio Standard: up to five guests; Pro: up to eleven, including co-hosts Free: six on-screen participants; Core: ten on-screen participants; Advanced: up to fifteen backstage participants
Recording Cloud and local recording; guide lists four hours per session on Standard and ten on Pro Free lists two hours per month of local recording; Core lists unlimited local recordings

Other plan details Pro lists 30-day recording storage, unlimited branding, uploaded media, custom RTMP destinations and disconnection protection Advanced lists an extra camera; the cited plan details do not establish equivalent Talk Studio-style storage or branding terms

The services’ feature lists support a workflow-based choice, not a claim that one is easier, more reliable or better in output quality. Talk Studio’s listed advantage for a show needing many destinations is Pro’s unlimited multistream destinations; Standard is limited to one. StreamYard’s listed Core and Advanced limits are three and eight destinations respectively. For participant capacity, local-track workflow, recording duration, storage and the exact branding tools you need, verify the plan terms against your production before paying.

Who should choose Talk Studio?

  • Consider Standard if one destination, 720p, up to five guests and the listed recording limits fit your show.
  • Consider Pro if you need 1080p, multiple destinations, more guests, longer recordings, 30-day recording storage, custom RTMP or the additional branding and media features listed for Pro.
  • Compare StreamYard if its free plan or its stated participant, recording and destination allowances better match your workflow. Do not compare only headline resolution: participant limits and monthly local-recording allowances may be decisive.

Alternatives for a different kind of YouTube stream

Talk Studio is for producing a live show or recording with people, screens and studio controls. If instead your goal is to keep a pre-recorded video or playlist playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is the relevant alternative: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud. Your video streams as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos on YouTube, not camera-based live shows. Visit StreamNeo or start the free day.

Common questions to check before a show

Does Talk Studio work on mobile?

The recording guide specifically says mobile devices are not supported for local recording. It does not establish that every Talk Studio feature is unavailable on mobile; check current device support if mobile participation is essential.

Can I use Talk Studio for a documentary interview?

Its browser workflow supports guests, screen sharing, branding, live broadcasting and recording, so it can fit a remote interview format. For post-production, account for the local-recording device restriction and the track or session limits on your plan.
