If you want matching scenes, alerts, and transitions, compare a year-specific package such as StreamSpell’s 2026 collection. Choose based on visual readability, package contents, access requirements, and compatibility with your streaming software—not on unverified promises of better performance or audience growth.
Choose the kind of overlay you need
New Year stream assets come in a few different forms. A frame or scene overlay adds seasonal decoration; a coordinated package may also include starting, BRB, and ending screens, alerts, and transitions. A countdown is a separate operational detail: check that it displays the right time zone and reaches midnight when you intend.
- One scene or frame: best if you want a subtle festive treatment without replacing your existing setup.
- A free gallery or editor: useful if you want to browse designs and customize an overlay.
- A complete year-specific package: worth considering if you want several matching assets, provided the art and license still suit your event.
Before choosing, compare whether the asset is free or membership-gated, how its animation and decoration affect readability at your stream resolution, what components are included, and whether it works with your actual broadcast setup.

Add an overlay to OBS
- Choose the asset and check its instructions. For a StreamElements overlay, open the selected overlay and copy its overlay URL. For a downloaded package, follow the seller’s setup instructions and verify its license and compatibility.
- Open the scene where it belongs. In OBS Studio, select the scene for your gameplay, camera, or event countdown.
- Add the overlay source. In the Sources panel, add a Browser source and enter the StreamElements overlay URL. StreamElements documents overlays as browser-rendered sources. For a local asset, use the source type and settings specified by its provider.
- Position and size it. Arrange the overlay above the content it decorates, then resize and place it so it does not cover gameplay, captions, or the face camera. Preview the full scene at the resolution you plan to stream.
- Test the event sequence privately. Check every scene, animation, alert, and countdown before going live. Confirm the countdown’s time zone and target time, and make sure you can switch to the next scene at the intended moment.
Streamlabs’ setup guidance describes browsing its overlay library, searching by keyword and filters, and adding overlays in Streamlabs Desktop or OBS. Follow the current in-product instructions for the asset you select.
Make the countdown easy to operate
A physical controller is optional; it does not create or display the overlay. Elgato documents Stream Deck controls for OBS scene switching and media-source control. Its integration page specifies Stream Deck 5.3 or newer and OBS Studio 27.0 or newer. If you already use keyboard shortcuts or another controller, those may be sufficient for moving from a countdown to a live scene and then a celebration scene.
