Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf Streamlabs Desktop will not save a recording, first check the free space on the selected drive and whether your account can write to the recording folder. Then match the fix to the symptom: errors when saving, poor performance, missing desktop audio, or a recording that will not stop can have different causes.
Start with the exact symptom
Before changing settings, note the full error message and whether the problem happens when you start recording, while it is running, when you stop, or only when recording and streaming at the same time. Streamlabs Support’s Recording Issues in Streamlabs Desktop article, last updated April 25, 2025, covers common cases where no file appears in the chosen folder.
If the recording file is missing
- Check the destination and available space. In Streamlabs Desktop, open Settings > Output and check the recording path. Confirm that the drive has enough free space and that the folder exists and is writable by your account. For “An unexpected error occurred: Unable to write to,” prioritize these checks.
- Test a folder you can write to. Change the recording path to a known writable folder, then make a short test recording. This helps distinguish a destination-permission issue from an encoder or driver problem.
- Restart, then try administrator mode. Close and reopen Streamlabs Desktop. If the problem persists, run it as administrator and test again.
- Update the relevant components. Streamlabs lists installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 and updating graphics-card drivers among its troubleshooting steps. For an empty unexpected-error message—or no error but no file—these are possible next steps, not guaranteed fixes.
- If you are also streaming, change one output setting at a time. Streamlabs suggests trying a recording encoder different from the streaming encoder, or setting recording quality to “Same as Stream.” Test after each change so you can tell what affected the result.
Streamlabs describes x264 as CPU-based encoding and NVENC as encoding offloaded to the GPU. If one encoder fails or overloads your system, testing the other may help, but the result depends on your hardware and workload.
If recording works but performance suffers
Open Settings > Output to review the recording path, format, encoder, and rate control. Streamlabs’ How to Record on Streamlabs Desktop guide, last updated October 2, 2025, recommends monitoring system performance during recording and lowering output resolution if the computer struggles.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Choose quality for the machine, not just the footage. Higher output resolution and frame rate can increase encoding load and file size. If performance drops, reduce output resolution and make a short test before changing more settings.
- Consider the frame rate. Streamlabs recommends 60 FPS for action-heavy footage and notes that 30 FPS can be adequate for static content. These are starting points; the right choice depends on the content and available CPU/GPU headroom.
- Use the guide’s rate-control recommendations as tests. Streamlabs recommends CQP for supported recording workflows and CRF for x264. Check the options available for your encoder, record a short sample, and review both playback quality and system load before committing to a longer session.
- Set the canvas and output deliberately. For gameplay, Streamlabs recommends matching the base canvas to the monitor resolution. A high output resolution may suit the source, but lower it if the system cannot record smoothly.
There is no universally best combination: recording alone and recording while streaming impose different loads, and the encoder, resolution, frame rate, format, and editing needs all matter. Test a representative scene on your own setup.
If the recording will not stop
If the recording timer resets, spins, or the app will not finish recording, check whether Logi Tune is installed. Streamlabs’ support article, Unable to Stop Recording on the Streamlabs Desktop App, dated August 23, 2026, identifies Logi Tune as a possible cause and reports uninstalling it as a workaround. The issue page is marked resolved with a workaround available; if the problem continues, contact Streamlabs Support.

If desktop audio is missing
Work through the audio path rather than changing video settings. Streamlabs’ Desktop Audio Not Being Captured support page, last updated April 25, 2025, lists these checks:
- Check the Streamlabs mixer and make sure the desktop audio source is not muted.
- Close audio-management utilities that may conflict with capture, then test again.
- On Windows, check whether exclusive mode is enabled for the playback device and test with it disabled.
- In Streamlabs, manually select the correct desktop audio device rather than relying on automatic selection.
- If the issue remains, follow the support page’s Windows C++ redistributable guidance. It also describes software audio routing as a last-resort workaround.
If an NVENC rescale option is unavailable
This is version-specific. Streamlabs’ May 25, 2026 support article, Desktop – Rescale Output not Working with NVENC Encoding, describes Desktop 1.20.4: standard NVENC lacks the rescale option while NVENC (New) has it. Check your installed Streamlabs Desktop version and the current support article before changing encoders. The reported workarounds include x264, which uses the CPU, and a preview build that may be unstable; weigh that instability against the need for the option.
