To make a Streamlabs Cloudbot custom command, enable Cloudbot, open Commands → Custom, add a trigger and response, choose who can use it, then save and test it in chat. Add a variable when the reply should include changing information, such as a channel or user name. Variables are placeholders Cloudbot replaces with data from chat or the streaming service.
Before you start: enable Cloudbot
- Open the Streamlabs dashboard and go to Cloudbot.
- Turn Cloudbot on for the platform where you want the command to work.
- Give the bot the chat permissions it needs. Streamlabs’ quick setup guide describes using
/mod Streamlabson Twitch and Kick. For YouTube, it directs creators to YouTube Studio’s Community settings to add Streamlabs as a moderator. Platform interfaces and permission steps can change, so check the current controls if these labels no longer match.
A command will not respond if Cloudbot is off or the bot cannot participate in that platform’s chat.
How do I create a custom command?
- In the dashboard, open Commands → Custom.
- Choose Add Command, or start from a template if one fits.
- Enter a trigger such as
!socials. - Write the response Cloudbot should send. Keep it useful and concise, especially if viewers may call it repeatedly.
- Choose the command’s permissions and reply behavior. Set cooldowns or a loyalty-point cost if you need them.
- Save the command, make sure it is enabled, and test it in the correct platform’s chat.
Streamlabs’ advanced-settings guide says a command trigger usually starts with an exclamation mark and must appear at the beginning of the message. Use the exact trigger you configured when testing.
What are variables?
A variable is a placeholder in a response that Cloudbot replaces with information from chat or the streaming service. For example, a response can include {channel.name} to insert the channel name. Streamlabs’ tutorial also demonstrates {touser.name} and {touser.followage} in a follow-age command.

In the follow-age example, using the command without a target shows the requester’s follow duration; adding a target username can show that user’s follow duration. The exact target behavior depends on how the command is invoked. Treat these as examples, not a complete list of supported variables: Streamlabs notes that some parameters work only in particular Cloudbot sections, and its full variables reference may require login. Check that a token is supported where you are using it.
Choose the right trigger and reply behavior
Command or alias
A command is a deliberate trigger, commonly something like !socials. An alias is another trigger for the same response; for example, !following can be set as an alias for !followage. Aliases are useful when viewers may naturally use more than one phrase.

Keyword
A keyword can match text without an exclamation mark or a message-start requirement, and it can contain spaces. That flexibility also makes accidental replies more likely when the phrase appears in ordinary conversation. Choose a distinctive keyword and test it with realistic chat messages.
Chat or Whisper
Chat posts the response publicly. Whisper sends it privately where supported. Streamlabs’ tutorial described Whisper as Twitch-only at the time it was published; availability can vary by platform and current dashboard behavior, so confirm the option before relying on it.

Permissions, cooldowns, and costs
- Permissions: Limit use to roles available in the dashboard, such as regulars, subscribers, moderators, or the streamer. Restrict commands that should not be triggered by every viewer.
- Global cooldown: After anyone uses the command, everyone must wait for the configured interval before it can be used again.
- User cooldown: The person who used the command must wait, while other viewers can still use it.
- Loyalty-point cost: A command can charge points to run. The tutorial describes role-based costs for moderators, subscribers, regulars, and other users; check the available controls and set costs deliberately.
Global cooldowns reduce repeated messages across the whole chat; user cooldowns curb one person’s repeated use without blocking everyone else. Choose the scope that fits the command rather than adding restrictions by default.
Test a command and troubleshoot no response
Start with a simple response that contains no variables or point cost. If it works, add advanced settings one at a time; this makes it easier to identify a setting that prevents the reply.

- Nothing happens: Confirm Cloudbot is enabled for the right platform, the bot has the required chat permission, and the command itself is turned on.
- The trigger is ignored: Check spelling, punctuation, capitalization if relevant to the configured trigger, and whether the command must start the message. For a keyword, test the exact phrase in a message where it should match.
- Some viewers can use it but you cannot, or vice versa: Review the command’s role permissions and test with an account in an allowed role.
- The command works only sometimes: Check both global and user cooldowns, and whether a loyalty-point cost can be paid.
- A variable appears incorrectly or does not resolve: Check its spelling and whether the variable is available in that Cloudbot section. Try the command without the variable to isolate the issue.
- A YouTube bot feature or timer is not working: Streamlabs’ troubleshooting article, originally published in 2021, lists public-stream and timer interval/line-minimum conditions for YouTube. Because those platform details are old and may have changed, verify the current Streamlabs and YouTube requirements rather than assuming they still apply.
