To stream a playlist over Airtel Xstream Fiber, use a computer running OBS Studio: add your local videos as an OBS VLC Video playlist, connect OBS to a YouTube Live broadcast, and send the stream over your Airtel connection. Airtel provides the internet connection; the computer and OBS play and encode the videos. The router and Xstream set-top box do not run the playlist.

Before you start

  • A computer with OBS Studio and the video files stored locally.
  • VLC installed if OBS does not show the VLC Video source. OBS’s media-source guide lists MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM among formats supported by Media Source, but playback depends on the file and computer. OBS media-source documentation
  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube’s help page lists channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days, and a minimum age of 16 among its requirements. Check the current Live Control Room because requirements and enforcement can change. YouTube live eligibility
  • Permission to broadcast every video and audio track in the playlist. Live content must comply with YouTube’s policies and terms.
  • A stable upload connection from the computer. Airtel plan speeds advertised as “up to” do not establish the sustained upload available at your home or at a particular time. Airtel broadband plans

Set up the playlist in OBS

  1. Open OBS Studio and create or select the scene you want to use.
  2. In the Sources panel, select the add button and choose VLC Video. If it is unavailable, install VLC and restart OBS. OBS documents VLC Video as the playlist option; Media Source is for a single file.
  3. Open the VLC Video source properties and add the local files in the order you want them played. Keep Loop Playlist enabled to repeat the queue. Keep Shuffle Playlist disabled if the sequence matters.
  4. Size and position the source in the scene, and check its audio levels. Play through the files locally before broadcasting so you can catch missing media, unexpected aspect ratios, silent audio, or playback problems.
  5. For one video rather than a queue, add a Media Source and enable its Loop option. It is not the multi-file playlist queue. OBS media-source documentation

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a broadcast.
  2. In OBS, select YouTube RTMPS if available. Otherwise, enter the server and stream key shown for that broadcast, following YouTube’s instructions. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP. Keep the stream key private; anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your broadcast. YouTube encoder guidance
  3. Match the OBS output resolution and frame rate to what the computer can encode and the connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 ingestion options; the appropriate option depends on the setup and current YouTube guidance.

Choose bitrate and connection settings

YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, checked on October 3, 2026, are 5 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps, and 6 Mbps minimum and 12 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 60 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds. These are encoder settings from YouTube, not evidence that a particular Airtel line can sustain those upload rates. The help page did not display a publication year, so the figures are dated by the verification date here; check its current table before going live. YouTube encoder guidance

Use CBR as YouTube recommends, and choose a bitrate that leaves headroom on the actual connection. OBS advises lowering bitrate when dropped frames indicate the link cannot keep up. A speed test is only a snapshot; it cannot guarantee stable upload throughout a long broadcast. OBS connection troubleshooting

Test, start, and monitor the broadcast

  1. Run a test from the same computer and network path you plan to use. Include representative movement and audio, as YouTube recommends; a static image or speed test alone will not reveal every issue.
  2. Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the preview and stream-health status in YouTube Live Control Room, then go live or let the scheduled broadcast proceed according to its settings.
  3. During the stream, monitor OBS’s dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s stream-health messages. If the connection is unstable, lower the bitrate and investigate the network before attempting higher resolution or frame rate. YouTube encoder guidance OBS connection troubleshooting

Should you use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi?

If the computer can connect to the Airtel router by Ethernet, test a wired setup before buying anything. OBS warns that “WiFi may be unstable for streaming” and recommends a wired connection. A cable, router, network adapter, or other device can also be faulty, so diagnose the connection rather than assuming a new accessory will fix it. An optional Cat 6 Ethernet cable may be worth considering if a suitable cable run is practical and testing points to Wi-Fi instability; it cannot guarantee a stable route to YouTube.
