The real team behind You Gotta Believe was the 2002 Westside Little League All-Stars from Fort Worth, Texas. The clearest update is a reunion: in August 2024, Robert Ratliff and nine former teammates gathered at Westside with actors from the film. Westside Little League itself remains active in Fort Worth, but the available reporting does not establish where every former player lives or works today.
Where the real team is today
The 2002 All-Stars’ story remains part of Westside Little League’s community memory. At a reunion held at the league’s complex on August 30, 2024, Robert Ratliff and nine of his former teammates met with actors from You Gotta Believe. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported on the reunion the following day.

The organization that brought the team together is still in Fort Worth. Westside Little League’s official website describes a baseball and softball program for children ages 4–12 in West Fort Worth and says the league was chartered in 1955. Those details describe the current organization, not the former players’ individual whereabouts.
How Westside remembers the 2002 All-Stars
The team’s legacy is kept visible at the league. Former Westside president Rob Semple told the Star-Telegram that the story is shared annually with coaches in the youngest division and that the team’s banners remain in the trophy room. “We use it as kind of a teaching moment,” he said. Robert Ratliff also emphasized the importance of community when reflecting on the experience: “Community is so important.”
The lasting connection documented in the reporting is therefore to Westside and the team’s shared history. There is no comprehensive current roster biography in these accounts, so they cannot answer where each player lives, what work they do, or whether all remain in contact.

What the movie is based on
You Gotta Believe draws on the 2002 Westside team’s journey to the Little League Baseball World Series. Little League International identifies the team and its World Series run as the real-world basis for the film. The story centers on Robert Ratliff and his father, Bobby; the Star-Telegram reports that Bobby underwent cancer treatment during the team’s run and died in 2003.
The film is a dramatized feature, not a scene-by-scene historical record. Little League says the production was made in consultation with its staff under an entertainment licensing partnership. The available reporting establishes the broad real-life premise, but not a comprehensive comparison of every scene with original records. For film details, Well Go USA lists the 2024 English-language sports and family drama as 104 minutes and rated PG; Universal Pictures At Home lists a digital edition at 1 hour 45 minutes, also rated PG.
