There is no universal winner. For a volunteer-led church that wants a straightforward browser workflow, StreamYard is a conditional fit; Resi suits teams considering managed delivery and monitoring; BoxCast offers a church-oriented streaming and recording service. These are distinctions drawn from vendor-published information, not an independent head-to-head test. Choose around who will operate the service, how it is produced, and what happens to the recording—not resolution alone.
If the goal is to keep an uploaded program looping on YouTube around the clock rather than to broadcast a live worship service, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: it plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. See StreamNeo.
Which kind of streaming software fits your church?
Church streaming setups generally fall into three categories. A browser studio emphasizes ease of operation, guest participation, and graphics. A desktop encoder offers more production control but requires a capable computer and an operator who can manage it. A managed church platform may bundle delivery, monitoring, archives, support, or multisite options for a subscription cost. The right choice depends on the service and team; available vendor descriptions do not establish an independent winner or uptime ranking.
| Option | Potential fit | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| StreamYard | Volunteer-led services where a browser-based studio, graphics, guests, recordings, or multistreaming are useful. | Current destination limits, watermark, storage and recording limits, plan eligibility for individuals versus organizations, and price. |
| Resi | Teams evaluating managed monitoring, scheduling, support, social delivery, or website, app, and multisite options. | Required plan, annual or monthly commitment, bandwidth, archive retention, and compatibility with the church’s equipment and workflow. Reliability and protocol descriptions are vendor claims, not independent performance findings. |
| BoxCast | A house of worship seeking a church-oriented streaming and recording service with social distribution. | Exact plan features and price, equipment requirements, archive and export behavior, and destinations. |
| OBS Studio | A potential no-subscription desktop encoder for a team with a suitable computer and trained operator. | Current official software details, computer compatibility, volunteer support burden, and multistream setup. The available vendor information does not establish these details comparatively. |
| ChurchLiveStreaming | A hosted church service to investigate if public playback and archives are priorities. | Validate the current plan scope, support, audience limits, platform availability, and service quality; independent quality validation is not established. |
Vendor pages describe features, not proof that a particular service will perform best in your building. For example, StreamYard’s worship guide recommends browser-based operation for simpler volunteer workflows and emphasizes audio, stable internet, and framing. Resi describes its Resilient Streaming Protocol as verifying and resending packets, and says it is available through its hardware encoders or ProPresenter Stream. Treat both descriptions as vendor guidance or claims, not independent test results.

How to choose for a weekly YouTube service
Before comparing subscriptions, map the real Sunday workflow: who operates the stream, what the audience sees, where it must be available, and who handles the recording afterward. These questions expose requirements that a headline resolution or price does not.
- Staffing and handoff: Who operates the service, how much training do they have, and what support can they access during the service? Consider whether another volunteer can take over if the usual operator is absent.
- Production: Is the output a single camera, or does it need switched camera scenes, lyrics or slides, lower thirds, and guest participation? Match the production controls to the team’s skills.
- Audio: Can volunteers monitor the sound reaching the stream, not just the room? Poor audio capture can undermine a service regardless of platform.
- Destinations: Is YouTube sufficient, or does the church also need Facebook, its website, or app playback? Confirm destination count and any plan restrictions.
- Recording and archive: Does the platform record automatically, how long are recordings retained, and who can download or export them? Check storage and viewing-bandwidth limits as well as the archive feature itself.
- Scale and resilience: How many campuses and concurrent services are involved? Ask what happens if the primary internet connection fails and what support is available during a live service.
- Total cost: Include the subscription, any annual commitment, required computer or encoder, storage or bandwidth limits, and organization-plan eligibility. Compare the annual cost for the workflow you actually need.
A paid platform cannot compensate for poor audio capture, unstable upstream internet, unlicensed music, or an operator who has not practiced the workflow.
What YouTube requires before you go live
YouTube’s Get started with live streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The page describes mobile, webcam, and encoder approaches; check the current guidance for the method and channel you plan to use.

- STUNNING HD VIDEO QUALITY — Live stream and record in stunning 1080p HD resolution with crisp, detailed imaging, right out of the box.
- STREAM ANYWHERE — Go where the story takes you. Stream live from anywhere in the world using Wi-Fi, Ethernet or even your smartphone’s LTE network.
- INTELLIGENT APP CONTROL — Wirelessly control your Mevo and create compelling content with features like Auto-Director, all from your smartphone.
- MULTICAM MADE EASY — Connect up the three Mevo Start cameras to easily create broadcast-quality streams with multiple angles.
- ADVANCED ONBOARD AUDIO — Capture clean, clear audio using the built-in microphone or connect external audio sources for advanced setups.
YouTube documents a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. That is unlikely to affect one weekly service, but it may matter when multiple services or campus workflows run at once. Confirm the active stream and key arrangement before scheduling simultaneous broadcasts.

YouTube’s encoder tips recommend setting up ahead of the event, starting the encoder early, checking the Live Control Room preview and viewer access, and monitoring audio and video quality. Make that a repeatable checklist rather than relying on a last-minute start.
- Before service day: Confirm the channel is eligible to stream and that the chosen platform, account permissions, destinations, and equipment are ready.
- Start early: Launch the encoder or studio before the service begins so there is time to resolve connection, scene, or audio issues.
- Check the preview: In YouTube Live Control Room, confirm the picture and sound and verify that the stream is accessible to the intended viewers.
- Monitor during the service: Keep an operator attentive to audio and video quality instead of assuming that a successful start means the entire broadcast is healthy.
- Test the full handoff: Practice the same sequence volunteers will use on Sunday, including who starts the stream, monitors it, and ends or archives it.
Music rights apply to livestreams and archives
The church is responsible for having the rights needed for content in its stream, including music. YouTube’s live streaming terms say: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” A platform subscription does not grant those rights.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. Its live-stream copyright help says a placeholder may replace a stream, and an unresolved match can interrupt or terminate it. Even licensed third-party material can be interrupted unless the rights owner allowlists the channel through Content ID. Check that your licenses cover online live performance and, if you keep recordings, archived online use as well.

A weekly church service produced from cameras is not the same as an always-on channel that loops previously uploaded video. StreamNeo is #1 for the latter use case: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free. It streams to YouTube only and does not broadcast a live camera.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a continuous YouTube loop of uploaded worship recordings or other videos, the steps are: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps at one price, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Visit StreamNeo to start the free first day.

Compare the whole workflow, not just the plan page
Vendor plan pages and features can change. StreamYard’s pricing page lists a free plan and paid plans, with items such as Full HD, multistream destinations, recordings, local recordings, storage, and overlays varying by plan; promotional campaigns, renewal terms, and custom offers may affect displayed prices. Resi’s pricing page lists Social Only at a displayed $99/month, with annual billing shown as $1,188, and describes Facebook and/or YouTube delivery, scheduling, support, temporary storage, downloads, analytics, monitoring, and an encoder license. Its other plans describe website or app delivery, bandwidth, and adaptive bitrate levels. Confirm current terms and plan fit directly with each provider before committing.
BoxCast’s house-of-worship page presents an HD streaming solution and says recordings can be downloaded, embedded, or exported to YouTube or Vimeo; its pricing page describes simultaneous social delivery. ChurchLiveStreaming’s pricing page publicly lists plan details such as broadcast counts, viewing bandwidth, recording storage, sermon archives, web or Roku playback, and social destinations. These are vendor descriptions; check current inclusion, price, and limitations rather than assuming they match your church’s needs.
Before trusting any setup for a service, run a test with the actual operator, audio routing, destinations, and archive process. Verify support availability and the response path during service hours. For a multi-campus workflow, ask providers to explain concurrent stream, bandwidth, storage, and destination limits in the configuration you intend to use.
