You can discuss XRP on Twitch or YouTube, but whether a particular post is a regulated financial promotion depends on what it says, how it is presented, and who it is aimed at. If you are paid, receive commission, or get something else of value to promote a crypto service, disclose that relationship clearly and use the platform’s required paid-promotion tools. For creators marketing to UK consumers, FCA rules may apply even when the creator or business is based elsewhere; those UK rules are not a universal standard.
First distinguish discussion from promotion
Talking about XRP, explaining a news event, or describing how a wallet works is not automatically a financial promotion. The legal question depends on the communication’s content and context, including whether it invites or induces someone to engage in financial activity. A sponsored endorsement, an exchange referral, and an independent documentary-style explanation may therefore raise different issues even if all mention XRP.
This distinction matters especially for creators whose audience includes people in the UK. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) says the UK financial-promotion regime covers firms marketing cryptoassets to UK consumers regardless of where the firm is based or what technology it uses. Social posts and online advertising can be within scope. The regime began on October 8, 2023, for UK consumer-facing cryptoasset promotions, according to the FCA’s page Cryptoasset firms marketing to UK consumers.
The FCA describes four routes through which a promotion can be communicated lawfully. A promotion outside those routes may breach section 21 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Do not assume that being an individual creator, posting from outside the UK, or using a livestream exempts a promotion. The FCA’s guidance does not mean every XRP conversation is regulated; it means creators should assess the actual communication and its audience rather than rely on the topic alone.

Be fair, clear, and not misleading
The FCA expects financial promotions to be fair, clear, and not misleading, with balanced information that helps consumers understand what is being promoted. A stream that emphasizes potential gains while obscuring material risks can fail that standard. Avoid presenting uncertain outcomes as guaranteed, and make the nature and risks of the product or service understandable to viewers.

Make the risk visible
The FCA warns that “Cryptoassets remain high risk.” Its consumer-facing rules include specific risk warnings and positive frictions in consumer journeys. A creator should not bury a relevant warning in a long description or imply that a warning makes an otherwise misleading promotion acceptable.
For social media, the FCA says its financial-promotion rules are technology-neutral and apply across channels. Its cryptoasset guidance also says relevant commercial relationships, including payment or commission, should be disclosed. The FCA warns that unauthorized people—including influencers and affiliate marketers—who promote regulated financial products or services without appropriate approval may be committing a criminal offence. Whether a specific XRP-related post falls within scope depends on its content and circumstances; if you are planning a UK-facing paid promotion, get advice from a qualified professional before publishing.

What Twitch and YouTube require
Platform disclosure is separate from legal compliance. A platform label can help viewers recognize a commercial relationship, but it does not determine whether a promotion is lawful in a particular country or satisfy every disclosure duty.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Platform | When the branded-content rule applies | Creator action | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Twitch | Twitch defines branded content as content featuring a product or service in return for value, including money, goods, or services. Its examples include endorsements, sponsored gameplay, paid unboxings, channel sponsorships, brand panels, and logos overlaid on a stream. | For qualifying content, use the branded-content disclosure tool in the Creator Dashboard. Twitch says the tool displays an “includes paid promotion” message. | Twitch lists certain prohibited branded-content categories, including initial coin offerings, multilevel marketing, get-rich-quick schemes, and payday loans. Its guidance does not establish that every cryptoasset, exchange, wallet, or XRP promotion is allowed—or that all are prohibited. Twitch also says creators and brands remain responsible for applicable legal disclosure obligations. |
| YouTube | YouTube’s branded-content policy covers content influenced by a brand partner in exchange for value, including payment, free products, or sponsorship. | Declare the promotion in YouTube Studio so YouTube can display its paid-promotion label. Make the disclosure clear and prominent to viewers as well. | The Studio declaration does not transfer the creator’s responsibility to disclose clearly or comply with applicable law. YouTube also restricts embedded third-party sponsor ads in formats where it offers a comparable ad format, including certain pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll formats. |
How to disclose sponsorships and affiliate links
If you receive money, commission, free products, services, or another benefit in exchange for featuring a crypto brand, treat that relationship as material to the viewer. Say plainly what you receive and which company is involved. Place the disclosure where viewers can see or hear it in the promotion itself; do not rely only on a profile page, a buried description, or a platform label.

- On Twitch: use the Creator Dashboard branded-content tool for qualifying value-for-promotion content, and make any additional disclosure required by the applicable law or context.
- On YouTube: enable the paid-promotion declaration in Studio when the content qualifies, and make the disclosure itself clear and prominent.
- For affiliate links: tell viewers that you may earn commission if they use the link. Twitch notes that an affiliate link shared in response to a community question is not necessarily branded content under its tool criteria. That platform observation is not a general legal exemption, particularly for UK-facing promotions.
- For an unpaid mention: do not imply sponsorship where none exists. If the relationship changes—for example, a company begins paying for a recurring segment—reassess the content and disclose the arrangement.
Keep the disclosure specific. “Sponsored by [company]” or “I may earn a commission if you sign up through this link” is clearer than a vague “thanks to our partners.” A disclosure does not make a claim truthful by itself: product statements still need to be accurate, balanced, and supported.
Do not assume a crypto sponsor is permitted on Twitch
Twitch’s branded-content policy identifies particular prohibited financial products and services, including initial coin offerings. It does not resolve the status of every possible XRP-related promotion. An XRP discussion, an exchange sponsorship, and a wallet endorsement are not interchangeable categories, so check the current Twitch policy and the specific terms of the proposed promotion before agreeing to it.
Twitch’s disclosure tool also does not settle UK legal questions. The platform says creators and brands remain responsible for applicable laws. A stream can meet a platform’s labeling requirement and still raise a regulatory issue because of its content, audience, claims, or commercial relationship.

Explaining hardware wallets without overstating protection
A hardware wallet is a physical device used to manage private keys for cryptoassets. It can be relevant to a custody or security explainer, but describing the category is not the same as endorsing a particular product. Do not claim that a device is foolproof or removes every custody risk, and do not turn a general explanation into an unsupported recommendation for a specific model.
Google’s advertising policy treats crypto hardware wallets as a restricted category in specified markets, where certification and local compliance requirements apply. That is an advertising-policy point, not proof that any particular device is safe or available in a given country. The FCA’s cryptoasset policy statement also discusses hardware wallets, but neither source establishes the suitability of a specific product.

A practical pre-publication check
- Identify the audience and markets. If UK consumers may be targeted, consider the FCA regime even if you or the sponsor is located elsewhere. Rules in other jurisdictions may differ.
- Classify the relationship. Record whether the content is independent commentary, a paid sponsorship, an affiliate promotion, or another exchange of value.
- Review the actual claims. Check that statements about XRP, an exchange, or a wallet are accurate, balanced, and not framed as guaranteed outcomes.
- Check current platform restrictions. Confirm whether the specific service and promotion are permitted under Twitch’s current branded-content rules or YouTube’s current paid-promotion policies.
- Make the disclosure conspicuous. Use Twitch’s Creator Dashboard tool or YouTube Studio declaration where applicable, and disclose the relationship in a way viewers can readily understand.
- Check legal obligations separately. Platform compliance is not a substitute for jurisdiction-specific legal advice, especially for a UK-facing crypto promotion.
