If your channel is in a region where YouTube supports RSS delivery, you can connect your podcast feed in YouTube Studio, verify ownership using a code sent to the email address in the feed, choose which episodes to import and publish them after upload. YouTube turns each selected audio episode into a video with your show art as a static image. YouTube’s RSS delivery guide explains the process.
What RSS delivery does on YouTube
YouTube represents a podcast as a playlist and each episode as a video. When you submit an RSS feed, YouTube uses the podcast’s show art to create a static-image video for each episode you select, then uploads those videos to your channel. After setup, new episodes added to the feed can upload automatically. RSS delivery makes the podcast available on YouTube and YouTube Music; it does not send it to other podcast services. YouTube’s RSS delivery guide
Podcast features such as inclusion in YouTube Music and podcast badges may be available, but they are not guaranteed for every playlist. YouTube says content you do not own may be ineligible, and copyright issues can affect eligibility. YouTube’s podcast distribution guidance
Check these requirements before connecting your feed
- Regional availability: RSS ingestion is available only in selected countries and regions. Availability is based on the channel owner’s location, so check YouTube’s current list of supported locations before starting.
- Feed and verification email: Have your podcast’s RSS feed URL and access to the email address specified in the feed. YouTube sends the ownership code to that address. If you do not know which address is listed, contact your podcast hosting provider. YouTube’s RSS delivery guide
- Show art: YouTube uses the show art to make the static-image episode videos.
- YouTube Studio access: Sign in to Studio. If your channel does not have advanced feature access, YouTube may require identity verification during setup.
- An import choice: Decide whether to bring in all existing episodes, episodes published since a date, or only future episodes.
- Visibility and disclosures: Decide the initial visibility and whether any episodes include branded content that needs to be marked during setup.
You do not need a microphone or recording kit to connect an existing RSS feed; the documented setup requires the feed, Studio access, verification email and show art. YouTube’s RSS delivery guide

Connect the RSS feed and publish the podcast
- Open the RSS workflow: In YouTube Studio, choose Create → New podcast → Submit RSS feed.
- Submit the feed: Review and accept the RSS ingestion terms, enter your RSS feed URL, then continue.
- Verify ownership: Request the code and enter the one sent to the email address in your RSS feed.
- Choose episode coverage: Select all existing episodes, episodes from a chosen date, or future episodes only.
- Review setup details: Confirm visibility settings and mark branded content where applicable, then save.
- Wait for uploads: Initial RSS uploads are private and may take a few days. YouTube recommends waiting until all selected episodes have uploaded before publishing, so you can check for problems first.
- Publish the feed: In Studio, open Content → Podcasts and use Publish beside the feed when the episodes are ready. Once published, the podcast and new episodes become public unless visibility settings are changed. YouTube’s instructions for publishing or disconnecting RSS episodes
- Review each episode: Check imported videos for copyright or monetization issues and use YouTube’s applicable controls to disclose sponsorships, endorsements or other branded content. YouTube’s RSS delivery guide
Choose RSS or upload episodes as videos
RSS is useful when you already publish through a feed and want new episodes to flow to YouTube after setup. Manual video uploads are an alternative if RSS is unavailable in your region or you want more control over each episode’s visuals and upload process. YouTube’s podcast setup guidance says an MP3 alone cannot serve as a podcast episode: an episode must be a video. If you are not using RSS, turn the audio into a video using a static image, such as the podcast thumbnail, or an audiogram or other dynamic visual. Put full episodes in the podcast playlist in their intended listening order; do not designate clips or season-specific playlists as podcast playlists. YouTube’s guide to creating a podcast in Studio
| Consideration | RSS delivery | Manual video upload |
|---|---|---|
| New episodes | New feed episodes can upload automatically after setup. | You upload each episode as a video. |
| Availability | Available only in selected regions, according to the channel owner’s location. | YouTube documents creating a podcast playlist and adding full-length episode videos; an MP3 by itself is not an episode. |
| Setup | Requires the feed URL and verification through its listed email address. | Requires a video file for each episode. |
| Visuals | YouTube creates static-image videos using the show art. | You can make a static-image video, audiogram or other video format. |
| Corrections | Use the RSS re-upload option to replace an episode’s YouTube video. | Manage the uploaded video directly in Studio. |
The distinctions above follow YouTube’s RSS instructions, its podcast creation guide and its RSS episode management guidance.

Understand what does not sync from the feed
- Show details do not keep syncing: YouTube does not automatically update show details when they later change in the RSS feed.
- Changed audio does not replace itself: If you re-upload corrected audio to your feed, YouTube does not automatically replace the existing episode video. In Studio, use Re-upload from RSS feed. YouTube creates a new video and makes the old video private.
- Deleting the YouTube copy is not the same as removing the source episode: Deleting a video does not delete the episode from the RSS feed, and YouTube says it may be uploaded again unless you also remove it from the feed. If you only want to hide it from the podcast, making the video private is an option.
- Back-catalog imports do not notify subscribers: YouTube does not notify subscribers when older episodes are added through RSS.
- Dates and ordering can differ by surface: The playlist page sorts RSS episodes by feed release date when available, or by YouTube publish date otherwise. YouTube does not verify RSS release dates, and different YouTube surfaces may display the RSS release date or the YouTube publish date.
These behaviors are described in YouTube’s RSS episode management guidance and RSS delivery guide.
Connect RSS to a podcast already on YouTube
If the podcast already exists in YouTube Studio, you can connect RSS from the podcast details page. Choose an import date later than the latest episode already on YouTube to avoid importing duplicates. YouTube’s RSS delivery guide

Fix common RSS setup and publishing problems
The RSS option is missing
First check whether RSS delivery is supported where the channel owner is located. YouTube limits the feature to selected regions, and its availability list is the place to confirm current coverage. If your podcast host offers YouTube delivery, ask the host about its option; YouTube says some hosts offer this functionality but does not name compatible providers in the cited help material. Supported locations · RSS delivery
The verification code does not arrive
Check that you can access the email address specified in the RSS feed. If you are unsure which address the feed specifies, contact your hosting provider; verification is sent to that feed address, not necessarily the email you use to sign in to YouTube. YouTube’s RSS delivery guide

Episodes are still private or have not all appeared
Allow time for the initial upload; YouTube says it may take a few days. Initial RSS uploads are private, so check that the selected episodes have finished uploading, then publish the feed from Content → Podcasts.
A corrected episode still has the old audio
Updating the audio file in the RSS feed does not automatically update its YouTube video. Use Re-upload from RSS feed in Studio; the replacement is a new video and the old one becomes private. YouTube’s RSS episode management guidance

A deleted episode returns
Deleting its YouTube video leaves the RSS episode intact, so YouTube may upload it again. Remove the episode from the feed as well, or make the video private if the aim is only to hide it from the podcast. YouTube’s RSS episode management guidance
