The first can suit straightforward edits without installing desktop software; the second lets a team share and coordinate a more involved project while editing in familiar software. Neither approach automatically means all original footage is streamed from cloud storage.
Choose the kind of cloud editing you need
Browser-based editing
A browser editor puts the editing interface and timeline in a web application. Adobe describes Firefly Video Editor as a browser-based, lightweight multitrack editor for combining generated clips, music and uploaded footage, with timeline- or text-based editing and export. Adobe’s April 15, 2026 announcement also describes audio tools and Adobe Stock integration. These are Adobe’s descriptions of Firefly; they do not establish feature parity with a full desktop nonlinear editor. Adobe’s Firefly Video Editor announcement
Cloud collaboration in a desktop editor
In this setup, the editing application still runs on a computer, but the project, media workflow, review links or collaboration state use cloud services. Adobe Team Projects is a shared cloud project for Premiere, with collaborator invitations, presence and status, sequence locking, publishing changes, offline capability, local autosave and published project history. Adobe positions Team Projects for smaller teams, businesses and individuals. Adobe Team Projects overview
For larger productions working across separate project files, Adobe describes Productions, which uses bin locking to help reduce conflicting edits. Adobe collaboration workflows

Pick a workflow that fits your footage and team
Before uploading anything, decide what you mean by “cloud” and what needs to be shared. Compare the options against the work you actually do:

- Processor: Intel Core i7-7700 3.60 GHz
- Memory: 32GB DDR4 Ram
- Storage: 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD) Fast Boot + Storage

- Editing environment: choose a browser editor if you want a lightweight web workflow; choose a cloud-connected desktop editor if you need the capabilities of the desktop application your team already uses.
- Team and project structure: consider how many people need access and whether they will work in one shared project or across several project files. Locking and publishing features help coordinate edits.
- Media location: decide where originals and proxies will live, who can access them, and whether the team has enough upload capacity and local disk space.
- Review needs: check how reviewers will leave comments, whether feedback can be tied to timestamps, and how you will identify the approved version.
- Access and cost: establish who can open the project and media. Check current software, storage and licensing costs directly with the provider; the cited product pages do not give a complete, directly comparable price list.
Set up a cloud editing workflow
- Choose the editor and collaboration model. Use the browser-editor route for straightforward web-based timeline work. For a shared Premiere project, use Team Projects; for a larger Premiere production split across project files, consider Productions. In Resolve, use a Blackmagic Cloud project library. The exact controls vary by product.
- Create the project and grant access. In Premiere Team Projects, invite collaborators and coordinate edits using sequence locking and published changes. In Productions, use bin locking to limit conflicting work. For Resolve, create a cloud project library and share the project with collaborators’ Blackmagic Cloud IDs. Confirm that each person has the permissions and project access needed before editing. Premiere Team Projects · Premiere collaboration options · Resolve collaboration workflow
- Plan how footage will reach each editor. A shared cloud project does not necessarily store or stream every full-resolution source clip for every collaborator. Blackmagic documents local drives, network storage and cloud storage options. Adobe documents uploading bins from local source files. Identify where originals live and how editors will reach them before assuming that sharing a project also shares its media. Blackmagic media workflow · Adobe collaboration workflow
- Create proxies when source media is unwieldy. Proxies are lighter working copies; in Blackmagic’s documented workflow, Proxy Generator can create H.264, H.265 or ProRes proxies and link them to originals. Agree on where proxies and originals are stored and how the project will reconnect to the originals for finishing. An external SSD can be useful for active media or proxies, but it is an optional local-storage accessory, not a cloud service or a requirement for every workflow. Blackmagic proxy and storage workflow
- Divide the work and publish changes. Agree on who owns each sequence, bin or timeline area. Use the product’s locking and publishing process rather than having multiple editors make uncoordinated changes to the same material. Check that collaborators can see published updates before building further edits on them.
- Collect review comments in a consistent place. Adobe describes timestamped comments and annotations, importing comments into a Premiere timeline as markers, and review versions. Blackmagic Presentations lets reviewers access a timeline or clip through a secure web link; its documentation says markers and comments relink bidirectionally with Resolve. Decide which version is under review and who can resolve or approve comments. Adobe review and collaboration · Blackmagic Presentations workflow
- Revise, export and retain what you will need. Keep project history and review versions organized, then export a delivery copy for its intended use. A project version is the editable work; an exported video is the rendered file you deliver or publish. Retain the project and required media if you expect to make later changes. Team Projects records published project history; Frame.io organizes review versions. Team Projects history · Adobe review versions
Understand the main cloud-editing trade-offs
- Browser editor: avoids installing a desktop editor for the browser-based work it supports, but should not be assumed to replace a full professional desktop editor.
- Cloud-connected desktop project: preserves a desktop editing workflow while enabling project collaboration, but you still need to plan software access, media availability and local storage.
- Shared project versus shared footage: project collaboration and media storage are related but separate decisions. Confirm how originals and proxies are accessed by each editor.
- Team controls: locks, publishing, change review and history give collaborators ways to coordinate work and retain context; agree on a workflow so people know when changes are ready.
- Costs: software, cloud storage and licensing charges depend on the products and plans selected. Current feature pages cited here do not establish a complete price comparison, so verify each provider’s current terms before committing.
Common problems and fixes
A collaborator can open the project but cannot find footage
Project access does not prove that source media is available to that person. Check the agreed storage location, permissions and whether the workflow expects local, network or cloud media. If editors use proxies, verify that they are linked to the originals and that the originals remain available for finishing.
Two editors’ changes conflict
Clarify who owns the affected sequence, bin or timeline area. Use sequence locking in Team Projects or bin locking in Productions where appropriate, then publish changes through the project’s collaboration workflow before another editor builds on them.

Review comments are hard to match to the cut
Make sure reviewers are looking at the intended review version and use the editor’s timestamped comments, annotations or presentation links. Import or relink comments to the timeline where the product supports it, and keep version names clear.
Editing feels slow with large source files
Check both media access and local disk capacity. For a Resolve workflow, consider generating linked proxies using Proxy Generator and confirm storage locations with collaborators. A proxy can make the working media lighter, but the originals still need to be accessible for a full-resolution finish.

A browser editor lacks a needed desktop feature
Confirm the editor’s current capabilities before moving a complex project into a lightweight browser workflow. If the work requires a shared professional project, consider a cloud-connected desktop workflow instead.

Video editing and 24/7 streaming are different jobs: editing changes footage, while StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
