Start by playing the exact video file selected for your scheduled StreamYard stream. If it is silent there, fix or replace the file: a microphone setting in StreamYard cannot add audio to a recording that has no usable audio track. If the file plays correctly, test the workflow from StreamYard to YouTube, then check live-input settings only if the problem involves sound captured during a live broadcast.
Find the first point where the audio disappears
Work from the source toward the viewer. This separates a silent recording from a file-preparation problem, a StreamYard output issue, or a YouTube playback issue.
- Source file: Play the exact file you uploaded or selected for scheduling on your device. Listen for the intended audio and confirm the relevant track is present and not muted.
- StreamYard output: If the local file sounds right, test the scheduled or prerecorded workflow with a private or unlisted YouTube stream, or use a recording test. Compare what you hear in the test with the source.
- YouTube playback: If the test output appears to reach YouTube but playback is silent, check the player’s volume and mute state. This is a practical check, not a confirmed explanation for every silent-player issue.
StreamYard’s prerecorded-video guidance recommends compatible file preparation, but it does not establish that any single setting causes a particular stream to lose audio. The sequence above helps identify where to investigate next.
If the original recording is silent
If the exact source file has no audible intended audio, do not spend time changing StreamYard microphone selection or studio controls. Those settings do not retroactively add sound to a completed recording. Return to the original project or export, restore or add the intended audio, export a corrected file, and listen to that new file before uploading or scheduling it.

Prepare a compatible file
StreamYard’s video-optimization guidance recommends these settings for a prerecorded upload:
- Container: MP4.
- Video encoder: H.264 (x264).
- Frame rate: constant 30 fps.
- Audio codec: AAC. This is the audio setting; H.264 (x264) is the video encoder.
- Audio/video alignment: Align A/V Start.
- File layout: Web Optimized (faststart).
- Total bitrate: below 10,000 kbps. StreamYard’s article describes the maximum supported prerecorded-video bitrate as 10 MB/s, also expressed there as 10,000 kbps, and recommends reducing files above that threshold.
StreamYard names HandBrake as a tool for re-encoding. After converting, play the output file locally and confirm its sound before replacing the scheduled video. These are compatibility recommendations, not proof that encoding is the cause in every case.

Test without going public
Use a private or unlisted YouTube test stream, or a recording test, to check whether the sound reaches the output. If the source remains audible but the test output is not, focus on the StreamYard-to-YouTube workflow rather than replacing a source that already plays correctly.
For scheduled prerecorded videos, StreamYard says the video resolution uses prior studio settings. Resolution is worth checking when diagnosing upload or scheduling behavior, but it is not by itself a likely explanation for a missing audio track.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Use microphone and browser checks only for live-captured audio
If the missing sound is from a live microphone or guest—not audio already embedded in the prerecorded file—StreamYard recommends checking the selected microphone and running its audio test. It also suggests using Chrome or Firefox and disabling browser extensions that may interfere. StreamYard states its audio recording is optimized for a 48,000 Hz (48 kHz) sample rate.
Headphones can help prevent speaker output from reaching a live microphone and causing feedback or echo. They do not restore sound missing from a prerecorded source file.

If StreamYard reports a YouTube connection error
Treat a connection error as a separate delivery problem; it does not by itself explain absent audio in a stream that successfully reaches YouTube. For connection issues, StreamYard’s guidance includes reconnecting the YouTube account where appropriate, refreshing, checking connectivity, restarting the browser or device, testing network speed, and checking whether extensions, a firewall, proxy, or VPN are interfering.
Keep a copy of the recording
StreamYard says prerecorded streams are no longer automatically saved to its library. The YouTube link is created at the scheduled announcement time, or when the stream goes live if no announcement is scheduled. Retain the source file and check the current StreamYard workflow if you need a copy after the broadcast; service behavior can change.
