Choose StreamElements for documented custom commands, timers, and spam filters; consider Streamlabs Cloudbot if you want commands alongside loyalty points and games; and keep Nightbot on your shortlist for chat automation and moderation. These are documentation-based fits, not results of hands-on testing. The right choice depends on whether your priority is moderation, recurring information, or viewer interaction.
What a YouTube live chatbot can do
A chatbot connects to live chat to automate tasks such as moderation, sending command responses, or posting recurring messages. YouTube’s Live Chat API allows external apps to read, send, and moderate messages in real time during a broadcast, but that platform capability does not mean every bot offers every feature. Check that the specific feature you want works with YouTube and your account.
YouTube’s directory of third-party gaming and livestreaming tools includes Nightbot, StreamElements, and Streamlabs. YouTube states that the listed products “are not made by or endorsed by Google LLC.”
Which chatbot fits your needs?
| Chatbot | Best fit based on documented features | What the documentation supports | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamElements Chatbot | Commands, scheduled reminders, and spam filtering | Custom commands, automated timers, spam filters, and interactive modules configured through its dashboard. | Some loyalty-linked features, including giveaways, stream store, viewer queue, and media requests, are not currently available for YouTube accounts according to its setup guide. Confirm current availability if these matter to you. |
| Streamlabs Cloudbot | Commands, configurable moderation, loyalty points, and games | Default and custom commands, editable permissions and responses, moderation controls for issues such as caps and links, loyalty points and redemptions, games, and other interactive modules. | Cloudbot is distinct from the separately named Streamlabs Chatbot. Features documented for the standalone application should not be assumed to apply to YouTube Live. |
| Nightbot | A general-purpose moderation and chat-automation option to consider | YouTube’s directory describes it as a chatbot that automates livestream chat with moderation and additional features. | The directory does not provide a detailed, current feature-by-feature comparison. |
How to choose a YouTube live chat bot
If moderation and spam are the main concern
StreamElements documents spam filters, while Streamlabs Cloudbot documents configurable moderation controls, including controls for caps and links. Compare the settings available in the current YouTube configuration and choose the controls that address the problems you actually see in chat.
If viewers need quick answers or reminders
Both StreamElements and Streamlabs Cloudbot document custom commands. StreamElements also documents automated timers, which can post recurring information. Decide what you want a command or reminder to say, then verify it in your own live chat before relying on it.
If you want games or viewer rewards
Streamlabs Cloudbot documents loyalty points, redemptions, and games. StreamElements’ guide says several loyalty-related features are not currently available for YouTube accounts, so check its exact YouTube feature list before choosing it for rewards, giveaways, or media requests.
If you want the simplest shortlist
Compare StreamElements and Streamlabs Cloudbot against your must-have features. Consider Nightbot too, but consult its current documentation directly before judging specific capabilities or setup requirements; the YouTube directory alone does not establish those details.
How to add a chatbot to YouTube Live
- Choose the task first. Decide whether you need moderation, commands and timers, or viewer rewards and games.
- Confirm YouTube support for each feature. A feature listed for a service overall—or for another platform or product version—may not work on YouTube Live.
- Follow the vendor’s current YouTube setup guide. StreamElements and Streamlabs Cloudbot both instruct channel owners to add the bot account as a moderator in YouTube Studio.
- Check StreamElements’ joining conditions if you use it. Its YouTube guide says the stream must be public and live for the bot to join. It also cautions that running two streams simultaneously may prevent the chatbot from working properly.
- Verify messages in the right chat view. StreamElements warns that “Top chat” may hide bot messages and recommends checking “Live chat.” Its guide also says the bot name cannot be changed on YouTube.
- Test before depending on automation. Try commands and moderation settings in your channel’s actual configuration, and confirm the messages and actions behave as intended.
Limitations to check before you commit
- Moderator access: Both StreamElements and Streamlabs setup guides require moderator permissions for their YouTube bot accounts. Grant the access needed for the features you plan to use.
- YouTube-specific feature availability: Check the exact YouTube feature list, especially for loyalty tools, giveaways, media requests, and other interactive modules.
- StreamElements event capture: Its setup guide says events are captured only while live. If an event is missed while the bot is offline, do not assume it will be recorded later.
- Streamlabs product names: Cloudbot is the cloud-based option described as simpler to set up; Streamlabs Chatbot is a separate standalone application with more advanced customization and additional configuration. The documented standalone features include advanced commands, currency, song requests, and Python scripts, but the available information does not establish that every one works with YouTube Live.
Or let it run in the cloud
A chatbot manages chat; it does not keep a prerecorded video broadcasting when your computer is off. If you also want a YouTube channel to run uploaded recordings around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service that loops uploaded videos on YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
