Yes—but not directly from Google Drive. Drive can store and play a video; to broadcast it as a YouTube Live stream, use an encoder such as OBS to play a local or synchronized copy on a loop and send that feed to YouTube. Google Drive’s documented playback feature is not a built-in YouTube livestream function.
What Google Drive can—and cannot—do
Google Drive lets you store and play video files. Its help documentation describes opening and watching a video in Drive, not sending that video out as a YouTube Live broadcast. YouTube’s documented live workflow uses an encoder to transmit a feed to YouTube.
So the supported approach is to make the Drive video available as a local or synchronized file, play it in encoder software, enable looping, and send the encoder output to YouTube Live. This combines documented Drive, encoder, and YouTube capabilities; it is not a native Drive-to-YouTube streaming feature.
Google says Drive playback can reach a maximum resolution of 1920 × 1080. That figure applies to playback in Drive, not to YouTube’s maximum livestream output. For a predictable OBS setup, use a local file rather than relying on a Drive share URL: the reviewed documentation does not establish that a share URL is a supported or dependable OBS input.

Before setting up the stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance.
- Prepare the video file. Download it or ensure it is synchronized to the computer that will run the encoder. Google documents downloading binary file content, including video, through its Drive API.
- Confirm rights. You are responsible for having the necessary rights to the video and music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can lead to a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination.
- Plan for an uninterrupted broadcast. A local-file loop depends on the computer, encoder, and internet connection continuing to work. Decide how you will detect a stopped encoder, lost connection, stalled playback, or audio drift.
How to loop a Google Drive video on YouTube Live with OBS
- Make the file available locally. Download the video from Drive or use a synchronized local copy. Keep it in a stable location that the computer running OBS can access.
- Open OBS and add the video. In the Sources area, select + → Media Source, create or select a source, then browse to the local video file.
- Enable the loop. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS describes this setting as replaying the file after playback completes. Check the preview and listen to the audio at the end-to-start transition; correct the file or scene if the transition has a gap, a jump, or unwanted silence.
- Set up YouTube Live as the destination. In YouTube’s live setup, choose the encoder workflow, then connect OBS using the YouTube stream URL and stream key, or use the available account-connection workflow. A stream key is a credential that tells the encoder where to send its feed; keep it private and do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Set output quality to suit the connection. YouTube’s published encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Choose the bitrate range YouTube recommends for your codec, resolution, and frame rate, and do not set a rate your sustained upload connection cannot support. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Review YouTube’s current settings page before a production broadcast because specifications can change.
- Preview and test before going public. Start the encoder feed and use YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators before making the broadcast public. Test with audio and movement similar to the intended stream, then check picture, sound, and the loop transition.
- Monitor the continuous run. Keep an eye on OBS, the network connection, YouTube stream health, and whether the video and audio continue as intended. A loop setting repeats playback; it does not by itself guarantee that the computer, encoder, or connection will stay available or recover from every failure.
Archive and rights issues for a 24/7 stream
Do not rely on YouTube’s archive for a full-day broadcast
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a 24/7 stream, keep a separate local recording or another archive if preserving a complete copy matters. YouTube’s archive guidance recommends a local archive backup.
Use only content you are allowed to livestream
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights needed to use the live content on Google services, including applicable music rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects such material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, the broadcast can be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed third-party content may require the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube will not let the channel go live: verify the channel and check for livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the first livestream activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- OBS cannot find or play the video: confirm the Media Source points to a local or synchronized file and that the file has not been moved. A Drive share link is not established as a reliable OBS input in the reviewed documentation.
- The video plays once and stops: reopen the Media Source properties and make sure Loop is enabled.
- The stream does not connect: check that the YouTube stream URL and stream key are current and entered in the correct encoder fields. Treat the key like a password; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live settings and update the encoder.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or the picture stalls: check the available upload capacity and reduce output bitrate, resolution, or frame rate if the connection cannot sustain the selected settings. Confirm the encoder is using a supported codec and the recommended keyframe interval.
- The broadcast is interrupted after a content match: review the video and audio rights, YouTube’s copyright notice, and whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel. Possessing a copy of a video in Drive does not itself establish livestream rights.
- The stream ends but no complete archive appears: a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use a separate recording or archive rather than depending on YouTube’s automatic archive for a 24-hour run.
