You can send separate outputs from your encoder to each destination, or send one encoder output to a relay service that forwards it. Choose based on your upload capacity, setup, costs and how you will monitor each platform. Before going live, confirm YouTube access, each destination’s rules and credentials, and enough upload capacity for your chosen route.
Choose how to send your stream
There are two common ways to distribute one live program to multiple destinations. Neither is best for every setup; compare the practical demands and costs for your stream.
| Route | How it works | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder sends to each destination | Configure your encoder to send an output to each platform using its supported connection method. | Check that your encoder supports the destinations and that your internet upload capacity can handle the configured outputs. YouTube’s guide explains encoder setup for a YouTube live event: YouTube Help: Stream across platforms. |
| Encoder sends to a relay | Send one incoming stream to a service that forwards it to your selected platforms. The relay’s outputs use each destination’s URL and stream key where required. | Review the relay’s setup, service cost, supported destinations and monitoring tools. Cloudflare’s simulcasting documentation describes configuring destination URLs and stream keys; Restream’s OBS workflow covers Twitch and YouTube. |
For either route, consider your number of destinations, local encoding and hardware load, network upload capacity, service costs, and how you will check each destination while live. A successful connection to the encoder alone does not confirm that every platform is receiving a usable stream.
Check account access and destination requirements
YouTube readiness
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and live streaming enabled. If this is the first time you have requested live access, YouTube says activation can take at least 24 hours after the request. Request access early rather than waiting until broadcast day.
- Have the stream key and RTMP server URL ready if your selected encoder or workflow requires them. Treat a stream key as private: it authorizes a stream from the encoder.
- YouTube says sufficient internet upload speed is critical for high-quality simulstreaming. The guidance does not set one universal Mbps figure; what is sufficient depends on your stream configuration and delivery route.

Other destinations
Make sure each destination account is active and in good standing, and check that platform’s current live-streaming requirements. YouTube specifically advises creators to consult the other platforms’ help documentation for their requirements.
Set up and test a multistream
- Verify YouTube and request live access. Use your channel’s live-streaming setup and allow at least 24 hours for first-time activation, as YouTube advises.
- Check every destination. Confirm live access and account standing on each platform, and review its current rules before planning the broadcast.
- Choose your distribution route. Configure the encoder to send to each destination, or send one feed to a relay that forwards it. Confirm which connection method each destination requires.
- Add destination credentials. Enter the correct stream key and RTMP server URL where required, or use a supported account integration. Keep keys private; an encoder uses a unique key to authorize a stream. Twitch explains stream keys in its simulcasting guidance.
- Check upload capacity and the full path. YouTube stresses adequate upload speed but does not give a universal target in the cited guidance. Test the complete route privately or with a low-stakes broadcast before an important event; this is a practical precaution, not a guarantee of delivery.
- Monitor each destination. While live, check that every platform reports a healthy incoming stream and that audio and video are correct. A connection indicator in your encoder or relay does not establish that all destinations are working properly.
Follow Twitch’s simulcasting conditions
If Twitch is one of your destinations, its current Terms of Service allow simulcasting subject to conditions. Twitch says the Twitch viewer experience must be at least as good as the experience on other platforms, creators must not direct their Twitch community to leave for the concurrent stream, and creators must not use third-party tools to combine cross-platform activity on the Twitch stream, such as merged chat.

Twitch’s Simulcasting Guidelines FAQ gives examples: making Twitch video quality worse than the other service is a degraded experience, and actively promoting or directing Twitch viewers to a concurrent livestream through banners, titles, go-live notices or chat commands is not allowed. The FAQ says links to other social profiles, including streaming-platform profiles, can be present in channel information. It also says personal-use tools that combine activity are allowed when that combined activity is not displayed on the Twitch simulcast. Follow the live terms and FAQ for the precise boundaries, since platform rules can change.
Optional network setup
A wired Ethernet connection can be a useful setup choice if your streaming computer is using Wi-Fi, but the cable itself cannot increase the upload bandwidth provided by your internet service. YouTube’s stated requirement is sufficient upload speed, not a particular cable or hardware product.

For a pre-recorded program that should keep a YouTube channel live around the clock, StreamNeo is a different option from simulcasting a live camera or encoder feed: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it streams to YouTube only, not to other platforms.
