You can record a Google Meet session to Google Drive, or stream it live to YouTube; they are separate workflows with different eligibility rules. Recording requires an eligible account, host permission, administrator approval where applicable, and enough Drive quota. Direct Meet-to-YouTube streaming requires an eligible account and a YouTube channel approved for live streaming.
Choose the right workflow
| Goal | What happens | Where viewers or the recording go |
|---|---|---|
| Record a meeting | A participant with permission starts a recording from Meet controls. | The processed file is saved in the organizer’s Meet Recordings folder in My Drive. |
| Stream a meeting to YouTube | An eligible user starts a YouTube stream from Meet on a computer. | Viewers watch on YouTube; the video may also be uploaded there for later viewing. |
| Stream within an organization or trusted domain | An organizer configures a live-stream event through Google Calendar. | Viewing is governed by organizational or trusted-domain access rules. |
Recording and streaming are not interchangeable: streaming does not automatically create a Meet recording, and an organizational live stream is not the same as a public or unlisted YouTube broadcast.
How to record a Google Meet session
Check eligibility and permissions first
Google’s current help page lists Business Plus, Business Standard, Essentials, Education Plus (staff license), Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Starter, Google One subscribers with at least 2 TB of storage, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Workspace Individual subscribers as eligible for meeting recording. Managed accounts also require the administrator to enable recording. The host must have permission; an eligible participant cannot record a meeting if the host lacks it. Personal or organizational Drive quota can also affect recording. Google Meet Help: Record a video meeting.
Start and stop the recording
- Join the meeting on a computer or Android device. Google states that recording is available only on those devices.
- Open the meeting controls and select the recording option. If prompted, select Start recording and confirm.
- When finished, open the controls and stop the recording. If the meeting ends first, the recording stops with it.
Google says processing may take time. The file is saved to the organizer’s Meet Recordings folder in My Drive, and an email containing its link is sent to the organizer and the person who started recording.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the recording control is missing
- Confirm that the account’s edition includes recording and that its administrator has enabled the feature.
- Ask the host to check their recording permission; a participant’s eligibility does not override the host’s settings.
- Check available Drive quota and account status.
- Check whether the meeting is in a breakout room or whether you joined only to present, either of which can affect access to recording controls.
How to stream a Meet session to YouTube
Prepare the account and channel
Google lists Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Workspace Individual, and Google One subscribers with at least 2 TB of storage as eligible for Meet-to-YouTube streaming. The YouTube channel must be connected to the meeting and approved for live streaming. Google says approval can take up to 24 hours. YouTube also requires channel verification and no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. These rules can change; see Google Meet Help: Stream a video meeting using YouTube and YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Start the YouTube stream
- On a computer, join the Meet using the account associated with the YouTube channel.
- Open Meeting tools, choose Live streaming, then Stream with YouTube.
- Select the channel and choose an existing event or create one. If creating an event, enter its details.
- Review and accept YouTube’s terms if prompted, then start streaming.
- Share the YouTube live-stream link with viewers. When finished, stop the stream from the Meet panel.
A stream started this way cannot be paused. If you need to stop temporarily, end the stream and create another one. The video may be uploaded to YouTube for later viewing, and the channel owner can delete it.

How organizational live streaming differs
Google’s Calendar-based live-stream workflow is designed for in-house or cross-domain viewing, with access controlled by the organizer’s organization or trusted-domain settings. It is not automatically a public YouTube stream. Only qualifying full participants in the organizer’s organization can control or record it; view-only guests cannot. The event is not automatically recorded: an authorized full participant must start and stop recording manually. Follow Google Meet Help: Live stream a video meeting for hosts for the Calendar setup and applicable access rules.
Equipment, quality, and copyright considerations
The documented recording and direct Meet-to-YouTube workflows do not require a capture card or separate encoder. You need a compatible device, supported browser or app, broadband internet, and camera access for the meeting. A webcam, microphone, or lighting can be optional production upgrades, not prerequisites for these workflows; Google’s hardware recommendations for demanding video, multitasking, or effects should not be mistaken for mandatory equipment. See Google Meet Help: Requirements for using Google Meet.

Before broadcasting or sharing a recording, make sure you have the necessary rights to the video, music, slides, and other material in the meeting. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility rules and copyright requirements are separate considerations; permission to use Meet does not grant rights to third-party content.
Troubleshooting common problems
- No recording option: Check account edition, administrator enablement, host permission, Drive quota, breakout-room status, and whether you joined only to present.
- No YouTube streaming option: Confirm the Meet account is eligible, the channel is connected, and you are joining on a computer.
- Channel cannot go live: Complete YouTube’s verification and live-stream approval steps and check for restrictions from the preceding 90 days. Allow up to 24 hours for Google’s stated approval period.
- Viewers cannot access an organizational stream: Check whether the event is limited to the organizer’s organization or trusted domains and whether each viewer has the required access.
- Recording is not in Drive yet: Allow time for processing, then check the organizer’s Meet Recordings folder in My Drive and the email sent to the organizer and recording starter.
- You need to interrupt a Meet-to-YouTube broadcast: The stream cannot be paused; stop it and create another stream when ready to resume.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing on YouTube after a session, StreamNeo is a separate option: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud rather than streaming a live camera or a live Google Meet. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. The same flat price per slot applies to any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
