Yes. A cloud service can keep a YouTube encoder running after you switch off your PC, provided the cloud machine stays on and can access the video or live feed. For a prerecorded documentary loop, the file or playlist must be available in the cloud. For a live camera or microphone, its feed must reach the cloud encoder; a camera connected only to your switched-off home PC will not.
YouTube accepts streams from an encoder connected through Live Control Room with a server URL and stream key. You can run that encoder yourself on a virtual machine, or use a managed service such as StreamNeo for uploaded videos that loop to YouTube.
What has to keep running when your PC is off?
The encoder—the software or service sending video to YouTube—must keep running somewhere. In a cloud setup, a virtual machine (VM) or managed streaming service takes that role. Turning off your home computer does not stop the cloud host, but the host still needs the media, an internet route to YouTube, and a configuration that reconnects if the stream is interrupted.
For prerecorded documentaries or playlists
Store the video files somewhere the cloud encoder can access, then configure it to loop or schedule them. A cloud VM does not automatically include your media or a looping application; you choose and configure those separately. YouTube documents how to connect an encoder, but does not prescribe a specific cloud looping design. Its encoder setup guide is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

For a live camera or microphone
The live input must be delivered to the cloud host through a suitable network feed or remote capture arrangement. If your only camera or microphone is plugged into the home PC, turning that PC off removes the source. Cloud computing keeps the encoder available; it does not make an inaccessible physical input available.
Before you start: YouTube eligibility and content rights
- YouTube currently requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its eligibility help page also says streamers must be at least 16. Check Get started with live streaming for current requirements.
- You are responsible for having the rights needed to stream the video, music, narration, images, and other material in your program. Livestreams must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and applicable terms; see Livestream terms and conditions.
- A continuous live stream is not automatically a dependable archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; the cited encoder instructions do not promise automatic archiving for a stream longer than 12 hours. If you need a reliable replay, plan shorter events and verify the result in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Choose a cloud route: managed service or your own VM
These are different operating models. A managed service can bundle video looping and stream operation; with a VM, you select and maintain the host and encoder yourself. A cloud region in India can be useful to consider, but its location alone does not prove the machine has enough encoding capacity or sustained bandwidth for your stream.

Examples of India-region infrastructure
AWS Lightsail describes its instances as VPSs and lists a Mumbai region. Its current pricing page says Mumbai bundles include half the transfer allowance shown for other listed regions, so check the live regional terms before choosing a plan: Amazon Lightsail Pricing. Google Cloud lists Compute Engine regions in Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2); its network pricing page says VM-to-YouTube transfer is not charged under the listed pricing. Those provider-specific terms are not a direct price comparison: General Purpose VM pricing and Network pricing.
Confirm current availability, instance capability, transfer rules, storage charges, and total cost with the provider before committing. A listed India region does not establish that a particular low-cost instance can encode your chosen resolution or keep a stream stable.

Run the stream yourself on a cloud VM
The details of installing and configuring encoder software depend on the software and VM operating system you choose. The YouTube side of the workflow is consistent: create a live stream in Studio, copy its server URL and key into the encoder, start the encoder, check the preview, and then go live.
- Choose and prepare the VM. Select an instance suited to the encoder and video format, with enough storage for your media and outbound capacity for your stream. Decide how the VM and encoder will restart after a failure, and how you will monitor them.
- Put the source within reach. Upload the prerecorded files to storage the VM can read, or arrange a network path for the live input. Configure the encoder or playlist workflow to repeat or schedule prerecorded material as needed.
- Create the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or open the stream. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details securely. Enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room in the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send to your stream. YouTube explains stream settings and resetting a compromised key at Manage live stream settings.
- Start and verify before leaving it unattended. Start the encoder, wait for YouTube’s preview, and check stream health and quality in Studio. Test the loop and reconnection behavior rather than assuming that a successful first connection guarantees uninterrupted operation. See YouTube live streaming tips.
Bandwidth and continuity
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend available upload capacity with 20% headroom above the total streaming bitrate. That is outbound capacity from the cloud VM to YouTube in this setup—not the upload speed of your home PC. YouTube warns that network interruptions can disrupt a stream, so check the VM’s sustained network performance and plan monitoring and recovery. Read YouTube’s streaming tips.

For an encoder bitrate of B, the recommendation means planning for at least 1.2 × B of available upload capacity. This is headroom, not a guarantee: other traffic, route quality, or host limits can still affect delivery.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Confirm you copied the current server URL and stream key for the intended event. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The preview is missing or keeps disconnecting: Check that the VM is running, the encoder is still active, and the cloud host has enough sustained outbound capacity for the bitrate. Review YouTube’s stream health and leave the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom.
- The video stops or fails to repeat: Check that the source file remains accessible to the cloud encoder and that the loop or schedule is configured in the encoder or service. YouTube’s encoder connection alone does not create a repeating playlist.
- The camera feed disappears when you turn off the PC: The camera was dependent on that PC. Provide a live feed that reaches the cloud independently, or use prerecorded material available to the cloud.
- No replay appears after a long broadcast: Do not assume a stream longer than 12 hours will be automatically archived. Check Studio and use shorter events if a dependable archive is important.
Cost and operating trade-offs
With your own VM, the bill depends on the instance, storage, transfer allowance and any excess transfer, plus the time required to install, monitor, and recover the encoder. Provider allowances and regional terms differ; for example, AWS states that its Mumbai Lightsail bundles include half the transfer allowance shown for other listed regions, while Google Cloud’s cited network pricing says VM-to-YouTube transfer is not charged under its listed pricing. Check the provider’s current terms for your configuration.
