Yes, but only if the service sending the video is updated with the replacement stream key and reconnects successfully. YouTube’s instructions tell channel owners or managers to copy the new key and update their encoder. They do not guarantee that a third-party cloud service will detect a reset, refresh its saved credentials, restart the stream, or keep the same broadcast running.
What a YouTube stream key reset changes
A stream key is a credential used by an encoder to send a feed to YouTube. When you reset it, the old key is replaced; the encoder or service still configured with the old key may no longer be able to send the feed. YouTube’s documented remedy is to copy the new key and update the encoder software. Only a channel owner or manager can reset the key; editors and viewers cannot. The update must happen where the outgoing feed originates. Depending on your setup, that may be a computer encoder, a cloud relay, a saved configuration in a streaming service, or a backup encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup uses both its Live server URL and the stream key, so confirming the key alone is not proof that the destination and connection are correct. How to recover a 24/7 stream after a reset
- Check the affected stream: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and review the stream’s status or health message.
- Get the replacement key: If the key was reset, have a channel owner or manager copy the new one from the stream settings.
- Replace the credential at the source: Update the key in the local encoder, cloud relay, saved service configuration, or backup encoder that sends the feed. If the service connects through YouTube sign-in or API authorization rather than a manually entered key, follow that provider’s recovery procedure instead.
- Reconnect or restart if needed: Follow the provider’s instructions to reconnect or restart the encoder or job. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to retrieve the key in Live Control Room, paste it into the encoder, and start the encoder. If the encoder signs in to YouTube without using a stream key, YouTube advises contacting the software provider’s support team. See YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance.
- Verify the result in two places: Check that YouTube receives a preview and reports a healthy live feed, then check the public watch page. A service dashboard that says “running” does not by itself confirm that viewers can watch the stream.
- Update any backup configuration: If a backup encoder or service has its own saved key, check that too. Gyre specifically advises updating a replacement key wherever it was saved, including backup configurations; that is Gyre’s guidance, not a universal rule for every provider. Will a cloud service update the key and resume automatically?
There is no general answer for unnamed third-party services. YouTube documents updating the encoder with the replacement key, but does not specify how another provider stores credentials, whether it can refresh them without stopping a job, or whether it automatically restarts after a reset. Check that provider’s documentation or ask support before relying on automatic recovery.

Some services may offer different connection methods. YouTube lists Gyre as a tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded video, and Gyre describes both manual key entry and an API-authorized workflow that creates broadcasts through channel authorization. The right recovery steps can differ between those methods. That does not establish how any other service behaves or guarantee that an in-progress job survives a reset. When evaluating a service for continuous streaming, ask whether credentials can be refreshed without stopping the job, whether automatic restart and backup behavior are documented, and how its support team helps verify live status. These are questions to confirm with the specific provider, not capabilities to assume.

Does a reset preserve the same broadcast or watch page?
YouTube’s encoder instructions explain how to send a feed; they do not promise that a key reset preserves the existing broadcast session or public watch page. Treat the broadcast’s continuity as unconfirmed until you verify the live status and viewer-facing page after reconnecting.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive rule is not a guarantee that a 24/7 stream resumes in the same session after a key reset. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Reduce interruption risk and check failover
- Leave upload bandwidth headroom: YouTube notes that network disruption can break a stream. Its streaming tips recommend testing the setup rather than assuming the connection will hold.
- Test backup-encoder failover: Check that the player rolls over to the backup during a planned test. A backup still needs valid credentials and does not remove the need to replace a reset key.
