Use YouTube Studio to review and remove bot-like comments, hide repeat offenders, and report spam or artificial engagement. Don’t buy views, subscribers, likes, or comments: YouTube prohibits artificially inflating metrics, and creators can be held responsible for methods used by people they hire.
Review suspicious comments in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Comments. Select the Held tab. YouTube combines comments held for review with those marked Likely spam there; automatically held comments can remain in Held for up to 60 days. YouTube Help: Manage spam in comments.
- Check the comment before taking action. Filters can catch legitimate comments, too. If a held comment is appropriate, approve it; otherwise remove it, report it, or hide the commenter from your channel.
- Use the comment’s More menu to report spam or abuse. Reporting sends the item for YouTube’s review; it does not automatically remove it. Remove a comment or hide its author when you want to manage what appears on your channel without waiting for that review.
Choose the right response for the problem

Know what YouTube treats as fake engagement or spam
YouTube defines legitimate engagement as interaction driven by a human user’s authentic intent. Artificially increasing views, likes, comments, or other metrics through automated systems or by serving videos to unsuspecting viewers is prohibited. Its examples include sub-for-sub, promoting third-party services that inflate metrics, and knowingly inflating live traffic. YouTube Fake engagement policy.
YouTube’s Spam policy also covers high-volume, repetitive, or deceptive comments, as well as repetitive or templated content and engagement manipulation through bots. The rules apply across formats and surfaces, including comments, links, posts, thumbnails, and live chat. But ordinary calls to action are allowed: you may ask viewers to like, comment, or subscribe. The line is artificial, deceptive, coercive, or otherwise spammy engagement—not a straightforward request. YouTube Spam policy.

Don’t buy engagement or outsource it blindly
Do not purchase subscribers, views, likes, or comments, use a viewbotting service, or promote a service that artificially inflates engagement. YouTube says artificial traffic will not count and can lead to strikes. Policy-violating content may be removed; repeated violations or severe abuse can lead to account or channel termination. Creators remain responsible for promotional methods used by someone they hire. Review the Fake engagement policy before engaging a growth or promotion service.
Legitimate promotion is different from manufacturing activity. A real viewer choosing to watch or subscribe is not the same as a bot or a paid service generating deceptive activity. If you are unsure how a service gets its results, don’t give it access to your channel or pay it to inflate metrics.

Why subscriber and view counts may change
YouTube says Analytics subscriber counts can differ from the public count and may lag it by approximately 48 hours while verification and spam reviews take place. Accounts terminated by YouTube and subscribers identified as spam do not count toward subscriber or view totals. A changing count by itself therefore does not establish that your channel was attacked; allow for verification and spam reviews before drawing conclusions. YouTube Fake engagement policy.
