For a live aquarium camera, choose a cloud service that can receive your camera feed, run an encoder continuously, sustain the bitrate you select for YouTube, and recover or alert you when something fails. YouTube’s ingest guidance defines how the stream should be sent; it does not certify that a cloud provider can keep your particular setup running around the clock. Verify the provider’s continuous-process policies, networking, transfer charges, monitoring, support, and written service terms before committing.
First decide what the cloud service must receive
A live camera channel and a channel looping recorded aquarium footage are different workloads. For a camera feed, the video must reach the cloud encoder—typically as a network stream or through another capture path—before that encoder sends it to YouTube Live. YouTube’s published ingest guidance does not establish how a particular aquarium camera connects to a cloud host. Confirm the complete camera-to-encoder workflow with the camera and hosting provider, including whether the camera can send a compatible network stream and whether the host can reach it reliably.
If you want to loop uploaded recordings rather than broadcast a live camera, a cloud video-looping service may be simpler than managing a general-purpose server. StreamNeo is one such option for uploaded videos: it runs a YouTube stream from the cloud, but it does not go live from a camera. If the live view of your aquarium is essential, assess an encoder host built for your camera input rather than treating a video-looping service as a camera relay.
Choose the YouTube output before comparing providers
YouTube supports RTMP, RTMPS, HLS, and DASH as third-party ingest protocols. They are not interchangeable in every setup: RTMP is unencrypted and supports H.264; RTMPS is encrypted and suited to ordinary low-latency use; HLS and DASH are encrypted, support additional codecs for some high-resolution workflows, and typically add more latency because they send segmented media. YouTube recommends RTMPS for YouTube Live. The protocol comparison and RTMPS connection guidance are published by Google for Developers.

For RTMPS, verify that the encoder uses a valid YouTube RTMPS ingestion endpoint and application path, connects on port 443, and supplies the endpoint host name through SNI during TLS setup. A server being able to open a network connection is not enough if the endpoint, path, or TLS configuration is wrong. YouTube’s Live API provides primary and optional backup ingest addresses, including RTMPS variants; use the addresses available for your broadcast rather than assuming a generic endpoint.
Set a resolution and bitrate the host can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance lists these recommended H.264 bitrates. They are encoder settings, not a promise that a connection operating at exactly the listed rate will be reliable.

| Output | YouTube recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
A typical aquarium view may not need 60 fps; choose the frame rate and resolution for the movement and detail viewers need, then test the actual feed. YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its settings guidance also allows H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 in supported encoder workflows, but whether a particular cloud machine and encoder can produce the selected codec at the desired resolution is a separate compatibility and performance question.
Budget sustained upload capacity above the selected video bitrate so normal network variation does not leave the encoder operating at its limit. Test from the actual cloud deployment location and monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube Help specifically recommends running a speed test to test upload bitrate and testing before the live event; a result from your home connection does not establish the cloud host’s path to YouTube.

Compare cloud services against the workload
Once the camera-to-encoder workflow, protocol, and target output are known, ask each provider precise questions. Generic virtual machines do not necessarily include managed process supervision or a guarantee that a long-running encoder will be permitted.
- Persistent execution and recovery: Can the service run the encoder continuously under its terms? Can it restart the encoder after a process failure or host reboot? Can you configure health checks, alerts, and restart limits?
- Camera input: Can the service receive the camera’s actual output, with the required network access and credentials? If you need a capture device or intermediary relay, who runs and monitors it?
- Compute and encoding: Can the selected machine encode the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec in real time without falling behind? Confirm compatibility rather than relying on a generic CPU or GPU label.
- Network path and transfer: Which region will run the encoder, how will it reach the camera and YouTube ingest, and how is outbound traffic measured and billed? Check included transfer and any limits or throttling terms.
- Monitoring: Can you see whether the cloud process is alive, whether frames are being encoded, and whether YouTube is receiving a healthy stream? YouTube’s Live API exposes stream status and configuration issues, which can help separate an ingest problem from a cloud-process failure.
- Support and commitments: Ask what support response is included and what service commitments apply to your specific plan and region. Read the written terms; do not assume that a provider’s general availability statement covers your encoder process or end-to-end YouTube broadcast.
- Total cost: Include compute runtime, storage, outbound network transfer, monitoring, support, and any restart or orchestration features you need. Compare the full recurring cost, not just the advertised machine rate.
The official YouTube documentation establishes ingest behavior and encoder guidance, not provider-specific prices, regional performance, continuous-process policies, support response, or uptime guarantees. Those details must be verified directly with each candidate provider, and they can vary by region, plan, and contract.

Test the full path before relying on it
- Prove the camera feed reaches the cloud. Test the camera’s actual output, network route, authentication, and any relay or capture step. Confirm the encoder receives a stable feed before configuring YouTube.
- Configure YouTube ingest. Select a supported protocol. For RTMPS, use the correct endpoint and application path, port 443, and SNI host name. Retrieve the primary or backup ingest address through YouTube’s available broadcast setup rather than guessing it.
- Start conservatively. Choose a YouTube-recommended bitrate for the desired resolution and frame rate, set constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, then confirm the cloud machine can encode without dropped or delayed frames.
- Run a sustained test from the intended region. Observe both the encoder’s logs and YouTube stream health. A short successful connection does not establish that a long-running process, network path, or recovery mechanism will behave as required.
- Test failure and recovery deliberately. In a controlled test, verify what happens after an encoder restart, temporary input loss, or ingest interruption. Check whether recovery is automatic, whether the stream key and settings persist, and whether alerts reach someone who can act.
- Review terms and cost with the tested configuration. Use the real bitrate, expected operating duration, transfer volume, and required monitoring or support when asking the provider for a quote or checking plan limits.
Troubleshoot the most common failure points
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that the encoder is using the current ingest address and correct application path, and that the stream key is entered correctly. For RTMPS, verify port 443, TLS, and SNI host-name configuration.
- The stream connects but health is poor: Compare the actual encoded bitrate with the available sustained upload capacity from the cloud region. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if necessary, then run another test and inspect YouTube’s stream health.
- The encoder falls behind or stops producing frames: Check host resource use and encoder compatibility at the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. A provider’s machine specification alone does not demonstrate real-time encoding performance for your workload.
- The camera disappears while the cloud server remains up: Diagnose the camera-to-cloud leg separately from the cloud-to-YouTube leg. Check camera power and network access, feed authentication, and any intermediate relay; restarting the YouTube encoder cannot repair a missing camera source.
- The stream stops after a server or process failure: Determine whether the provider offers process supervision or restart controls and configure them explicitly. Confirm that a restart restores the right input, encoder settings, ingest endpoint, and key, and that monitoring reports repeated failures.
- The bill is higher than expected: Recheck runtime, outbound transfer, storage, monitoring, and support charges against actual usage. Ask whether transfer allowances reset monthly and whether overages are billed, restricted, or throttled.
When a cloud video-looping service is—and is not—the right fit
For a live aquarium camera, choose a cloud encoder setup that accepts the camera feed; a service that only plays uploaded videos cannot substitute for that live input. If prerecorded aquarium footage is acceptable, StreamNeo can keep uploaded video or a playlist looping to YouTube from the cloud. You upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Its stream output is the uploaded video as made, up to 4K at 60 fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers; each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. It is YouTube-only and does not broadcast a camera feed.
For a camera channel, compare StreamNeo only if you are willing to use prerecorded aquarium footage instead of the live camera. For a channel built around uploaded aquarium ambience, see StreamNeo and check its current service details.
