Short answer: If you already own a capable PC and can keep it powered, connected, and monitored, OBS is the lower-cost route to test first. Gyre is the cloud option when you do not want a dedicated computer running at home, but it replaces PC operation with a recurring subscription and file-storage limits. What OBS needs for a continuous stream
Computer capability
OBS lists baseline operating-system and graphics requirements, but those are not a recommendation for a particular low-cost PC. Its documentation says CPU needs depend on the encoder, output resolution, FPS, and scene complexity. Use the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then test with the actual scene and stream profile you intend to run.

Where available and supported, hardware encoding can reduce CPU load. OBS names NVIDIA NVENC, AMD AMF, and Intel Quick Sync Video; it generally recommends hardware encoders for performance because encoding work moves from the CPU to a specialized component. Encoder generation matters: older hardware encoders may deliver lower image quality at the same bitrate (OBS Project hardware encoding, dated 2022-01-11).
A mini PC with Intel Quick Sync or a refurbished desktop with compatible integrated graphics may be worth investigating, but neither category is a validated model recommendation. Verify the specific processor’s encoder support and generation, cooling, ports, network interface, and ability to sustain the intended workload. Test the full stream before relying on it.

Power, network, and monitoring
Your PC must stay on, and its internet connection must maintain enough upload capacity throughout the broadcast. A UPS may help with short power interruptions if it is sized for the measured PC-and-router load and the runtime you need; it cannot fix an ISP outage. There is no verified India-wide electricity cost or tested PC wattage for this comparison, so use your own measurements rather than a generic monthly estimate.
Use YouTube’s ingest settings as the baseline
YouTube’s current live encoder guidance recommends H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery and transcodes streams for different viewer devices and network conditions (YouTube Live encoder settings).

These are YouTube’s figures on its live settings page, current at the time of this article; the page does not show a publication date. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend 20% upload-bandwidth headroom (YouTube Help: Streaming tips). A connection barely equal to the selected video bitrate leaves little room for fluctuations. Set up OBS for a YouTube stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s livestream eligibility guidance says a verified channel must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming before the time you intend to launch (YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming; YouTube encoder setup).
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, and configure the event in Live Control Room. Use the stream key and server information provided there; keep the key private because anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Run the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard. In OBS, open Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard. Treat its result as a starting point, not proof that your PC can sustain an all-day stream.
- Set output encoding. In Settings → Output, choose an encoder your hardware supports. Set rate control to CBR and set the bitrate for your selected resolution and frame rate using YouTube’s current guidance. For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps; at 1080p30, it recommends 14 Mbps. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
- Set video dimensions and frame rate. In Settings → Video, choose a base canvas that suits your source and an output resolution and FPS your encoder can handle continuously. Avoid choosing a higher profile simply because the PC can display it; encoding load depends on the stream settings and scene.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service and connect your account, or choose a stream-key connection and enter the key from Live Control Room. Use RTMPS where available.
- Test before committing to 24/7. Start a private or unlisted test stream, verify audio and video in Live Control Room, and watch for dropped frames, encoder overload, and network instability. Keep the intended scene active long enough to reveal heat or reliability problems.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS and check YouTube’s stream-health indicator. Have a plan to restart OBS or restore the connection if the PC, power, software, or ISP fails.
Compare recurring and operating costs in India
If you already own a suitable PC, OBS may have the lowest additional software cost, but electricity, backup power, internet, maintenance, and your time still count. If you would buy a computer only to host a pre-recorded stream, compare its purchase cost and running cost with cloud subscriptions instead.

For a local estimate, measure the PC’s average power draw in watts and calculate: average watts Ă· 1,000 Ă— 24 Ă— 30 Ă— your electricity rate per kWh. Add internet only if the stream creates an incremental cost, and include backup-power costs if relevant. This calculation is arithmetic guidance, not an India-wide price estimate.
Gyre’s official pricing page displayed a $0 seven-day trial, then monthly tiers of $49 for Start, $99 for Start+, and $169 for PRO+ when checked for this article (Gyre pricing). Its displayed capacities at that time were 20 GB for one Full HD 30 fps stream on the trial; 35 GB for one Full HD 60 fps stream on Start; 75 GB for up to four Full HD streams or one 4K stream on Start+; and 150 GB for up to eight Full HD streams or two 4K streams on PRO+. These vendor prices and plan limits can change and do not establish the total paid by an India-based customer after taxes, currency conversion, or payment charges. Copyright and channel eligibility still matter
Streaming pre-recorded content does not bypass YouTube’s copyright rules or channel policies. Use material you own or are licensed to broadcast, including music and other embedded assets. Review YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance and the channel’s status before scheduling a continuous broadcast. A vendor’s tools or API workflow do not remove YouTube’s channel eligibility or monetization requirements.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not show the stream as live: Confirm live streaming is enabled for the channel, that first-time activation has completed, and that OBS is using the active event’s current server and stream key.
- Stream health reports dropped frames or instability: Test upload capacity, lower bitrate or output resolution if necessary, and preserve YouTube’s recommended upload headroom. Check whether another device or upload is consuming bandwidth.
- OBS reports encoder overload or the PC becomes unstable: Lower resolution or FPS, simplify scenes, and try a supported hardware encoder. Confirm cooling and sustained performance rather than relying on a short desktop test.
- The stream stops after power or internet loss: OBS on a local PC cannot continue sending while the computer or connection is down. A UPS may cover a brief power interruption but not an ISP outage; arrange monitoring and a restart process.
- A cloud service cannot play a file: Check the service’s current file-format and preparation instructions, upload completion, storage allowance, and plan stream limits. For Gyre, all video files must be uploaded to its storage.
- Playback or audio differs from the source: Confirm the file’s encoding and audio tracks, then test the exact playlist in a private or unlisted stream before making it public.
Bottom line
Test OBS first if you already have a suitably equipped PC, reliable power and upload, and are willing to monitor and recover the stream. Choose a cloud route if leaving a computer running is the problem, then compare file limits, stream capacity, recovery behavior, and recurring cost. No low-cost PC model or service can be called guaranteed 24/7 from the available specifications alone; validate the complete workflow before depending on it.
