Goldfinger tops Rotten Tomatoes’ James Bond ranking at 99%, while the 1967 Casino Royale parody sits last at 26%. The list was updated September 28, 2026, and ranks 27 films—including two non-Eon productions—by their Tomatometer scores. These percentages reflect positive professional critic reviews, not average ratings, and can change as reviews are added or scores fluctuate.
Rotten Tomatoes’ James Bond ranking
The table follows the ranking numbers and scores shown in Rotten Tomatoes writer Alex Vo’s guide, updated September 28, 2026. A film’s year distinguishes the two very different Casino Royale entries. The guide includes the non-Eon Never Say Never Again and the 1967 Casino Royale, so its 27 entries are broader than the Eon-produced series alone.

What the Tomatometer percentage measures
Rotten Tomatoes’ FAQ defines the Tomatometer this way: “The Tomatometer score represents the percentage of professional critic reviews that are positive for a given film or television show.” A 99% score therefore means that 99% of counted reviews were positive; it does not mean critics gave the film an average rating of 99 out of 100, nor does it show how enthusiastic those reviews were.

Rotten Tomatoes labels scores of 60% or higher Fresh and scores of 59% or lower Rotten. That threshold describes the share of positive reviews, not a grade on a common scale of artistic quality. In this ranking, Moonraker at 59% falls below the Fresh threshold, while Tomorrow Never Dies at 58% is also below it.
Why scores and positions can change
Rotten Tomatoes says Tomatometer scores can fluctuate as the review count changes. The figures above are the percentages shown in the guide updated September 28, 2026, not permanent scores. A later change in the reviews counted may alter a film’s percentage and potentially its place in a ranking.

Rotten Tomatoes also describes an Adjusted Tomatometer that accounts for review count, release year, and the average scores of films released around the same time. It is not the official Tomatometer displayed on movie or TV pages, and it is not the score used here. The table reports the guide’s displayed Tomatometer figures.
How to read the ranking across Bond eras
The top five span the franchise’s early years through Daniel Craig’s tenure: Dr. No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), and Goldfinger (1964) lead the early run, while the 2006 Casino Royale and Skyfall place fourth and fifth. The list’s scores are useful for comparing how often professional critics reviewed each film positively in this ranking, but a percentage alone cannot explain why a film works for a particular viewer.

For instance, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) and GoldenEye (1995) both appear at 81%, while Quantum of Solace (2008) and Spectre (2015) are both listed at 63%. The guide’s ranking order should be retained in such ties rather than treating the displayed percentages as a precise measure of the difference between two films.
Critics’ scores are not audience scores
The Tomatometer is based on reviews by approved professional critics. Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter instead reflects user-submitted ratings. Those measures answer different questions: one summarizes the share of counted critic reviews that are positive, while the other represents audience ratings. A viewer choosing a Bond film may find both perspectives useful, but neither should be mistaken for the other.

Why Goldfinger leads
Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Consensus for Goldfinger says: “Goldfinger is where James Bond as we know him comes into focus – it features one of 007’s most famous lines (“A martini. Shaken, not stirred.”) and a wide range of gadgets that would become the series’ trademark.” That is the guide’s explanation of the film’s significance, alongside its 99% Tomatometer score.
