To repeat one guided sleep meditation in OBS, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop. That setting repeats the file when playback ends; Restart playback when source becomes active controls what happens when the source becomes visible after a scene change. OBS documents looping, but does not guarantee that every file will repeat without an audible gap. If the boundary is still noticeable, check the audio edit and compare a carefully prepared WAV export.
Loop one meditation file with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene where the meditation should play. Under Sources, click the add button and choose Media Source.
- Name the source if you want, then select the local audio file in its properties. OBS lists MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV among the supported audio formats. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide for the documented properties; the guide is dated January 11, 2022, so labels may vary in a later build.
- Enable Loop, then apply the properties. OBS should restart the file after it reaches the end.
- Choose Restart playback when source becomes active based on how you use scenes. When enabled, playback restarts when the source is in the current scene and becomes visible. It is not the repeat control: leave Loop enabled to repeat at the end of the file. OBS’s source API reference also describes media restart operations.
- Listen through at least one end-to-start transition in the output that matters—the stream or recording—not only through local monitoring. Check that the repeat sounds right in the captured output.
Choose the source that fits your setup

Both sources have visibility-related behavior, which affects playback when scenes change; that behavior is separate from repeating a file or playlist at its end. OBS documents these source properties in its Media Sources guide.
Fix an audible gap at the repeat point
The Loop setting tells OBS to repeat completed playback; it does not remove silence or repair an edit in the audio file. If you hear a pause or a click at the boundary, inspect both ends of the file before changing OBS settings.
- Listen to the last few seconds and first few seconds of the file. Check for silence at either end, a fade that leaves a quiet interval, or an abrupt cut that makes the transition sound unnatural.
- If needed, edit the file so its ending leads naturally into its beginning, then export a test copy. Preserve a backup of the original.
- Compare the revised file in OBS. If the gap remains, render an appropriately prepared WAV version and test it under the same conditions.
- Judge the result from the stream or recording output, since that is what listeners receive.
One OBS Studio issue reporter described an approximately half-second dead spot with an MP3 loop that did not occur with the equivalent WAV. That is one person’s report about one file pair, not proof that MP3 loops always gap or WAV is always seamless.

Troubleshoot the most common problems
- The file plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and check Loop. For a playlist in VLC Video Source, check Loop Playlist.
- Playback does not start after switching scenes: Check Restart playback when source becomes active for Media Source and confirm that the source is visible in the active scene. VLC has its own visibility behavior settings. These options concern activation or visibility, not end-of-file looping. An older OBS forum discussion offers secondary community guidance on automatic playback.
- A short silence occurs exactly at the boundary: Inspect the audio file’s beginning and ending, revise the edit if needed, and compare a test WAV. The reported MP3/WAV difference is anecdotal, so test your own file rather than assuming a codec will fix it.
- VLC Video Source is missing or unavailable: Install VLC. If your OBS installation is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, as noted in the OBS guide.
