The Mac mini M4 launched in India at ₹59,900, but that was its October 2024 starting price—not a verified price today. For an Indian YouTube creator deciding between buying a Mac and renting cloud capacity, there is no defensible break-even figure without a current M4 offer and a comparable cloud quote. First separate two different costs: an hourly cloud computer that runs creator software, and a live-video service that bills for ingest and viewer delivery.
What the Mac mini M4 cost in India—and what that price means now
Apple announced the M4 Mac mini on 29 October 2024 at a starting price of ₹59,900 in India, or ₹49,900 for education. The base configuration had 16GB of unified memory, a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. Apple also announced an M4 Pro configuration starting at ₹149,900, or ₹139,900 for education. These are historical launch prices, not current M4 offers. Apple’s 2024 India launch announcement gives the launch details.
The M4 is no longer the current Mac mini generation in India. Apple said its M6 and M5 Pro Mac mini systems became available on 22 September 2026, with starting prices of ₹99,900 and ₹209,900 respectively. That announcement does not establish whether an M4 is still in stock or what a seller currently charges. Apple’s 2026 India announcement describes the newer lineup.
If you find an M4 for sale, compare like with like: confirm whether it is new or refurbished, the memory and SSD configuration, warranty, seller, and date of the offer. Apple’s technical sheet lists the M4 with 16GB unified memory, configurable to 24GB or 32GB, and a 256GB SSD configurable to 512GB, 1TB or 2TB. It is a compact desktop, so also account for any display and peripherals your setup needs. Apple’s Mac mini technical specifications list the configurations and media-engine capabilities.

“Cloud streaming cost” can mean two different things
Renting a cloud computer
A cloud workstation is a remote computer rented by time or capacity. You might use one to run OBS, editing software, rendering tools or a remote graphics workflow. Its cost depends on the machine, region and hours billed—not on a direct comparison with a streaming-service delivery bill. You also need a reliable connection to the remote desktop; latency, file placement, transfer time and whether a session remains available all affect practicality.
AWS describes G4 instances for remote graphics workstations and game streaming. Its displayed prices are for US East (Northern Virginia), not India-specific rates; G4dn uses NVIDIA T4 GPUs and G4ad uses AMD Radeon Pro V520 GPUs. Check the current regional price and availability before treating a listing as relevant to an Indian creator. AWS’s G4 instance page describes that product family.

DigitalOcean’s Paperspace pricing documentation lists these example machine rates. They show hourly billing, not an all-in cost for an Indian creator: storage, data transfer, software, taxes, currency conversion, and billed idle or reserved time can add to the bill. These provider rates are not evidence that a particular instance will outperform an M4 for OBS, editing or any other named workload. The cited prices do not establish a matched OBS configuration or performance comparison.

Paying a live-video service to ingest and deliver a stream
A managed live-video platform is a different service from a rented desktop. It may charge separately for receiving the stream and delivering it to viewers. AWS IVS, for example, bills input by stream duration and channel type, and viewer output by delivery resolution and region. Input charges apply even if nobody watches. AWS IVS pricing explains the billing model.
AWS gives an example of approximately $69 for a one-hour, 540p event with about 1,000 viewers: $1.76 for encoding and packaging plus $67.24 for distribution of 791 GB. The example uses US East (N. Virginia) assumptions and may cost more than the actual amount. It is neither a cloud workstation quote nor a typical YouTube creator bill, and it should not be used as an India estimate.

How to compare the costs fairly
Choose the service that matches the work before comparing prices. Live encoding, video editing, GPU rendering, remote collaboration and viewer delivery have different requirements and billing models. A sensible comparison uses the same workload and ownership period, and makes add-on assumptions visible.
- Verify the hardware offer. Record the M4’s actual price, condition, memory, storage, warranty and purchase date. Do not use its 2024 launch price as though it were a current quote.
- Specify the cloud machine and region. Confirm the exact machine, hourly rate, availability, region and billing rules. A US-region price is not an India-local total.
- Estimate billable hours. Multiply the current hourly rate by the hours you expect to use, including any billed idle time or reserved capacity.
- Add storage and transfer costs. Work out where project files live and what it costs to move them to or from the cloud. Include storage and data-transfer or egress charges where applicable.
- Include the rest of the setup. For a purchase, consider the ownership period and any relevant power, display, peripherals, maintenance, financing or resale assumptions. For cloud use, account for software, taxes, exchange conversion and the network connection needed to operate the remote machine.
- Compare equivalent work over the same period. A simple machine-cost-only calculation is purchase price divided by hourly cloud machine price. It is only a rough break-even formula, not a total-cost-of-ownership result; do not publish a numeric answer unless both inputs are current and comparable and material add-ons are disclosed.
For this comparison, the available evidence does not establish a current India M4 sale price matched to an India-local, OBS-capable cloud desktop quote. It therefore cannot support a reliable numeric break-even point.

What the M4’s media specifications do—and do not—tell you
Apple lists hardware-accelerated H.264, HEVC, ProRes and ProRes RAW encode and decode support for the M4 media engine. It lists AV1 decode separately; that is not an AV1 encoding capability. If your question is whether the M4 can stream in AV1, the listed specification does not establish AV1 encoding support. These specifications are not an independent OBS performance test.
Apple’s 2024 announcement also claimed up to 1.8× faster CPU and 2.2× faster GPU performance over the M1 model. Those are Apple’s comparisons against the M1 Mac mini, not an independent benchmark and not a Mac-versus-cloud result. Apple’s announcement includes the claims and their context.
