If OBS is sending your 24/7 YouTube stream, prevent an unintended repeat by checking the playlist or media source in the OBS scene that is actually live. For a multi-item VLC Video source, remove repeated entries and turn off Shuffle Playlist if you want files to play in their listed order. For a single-file Media Source, check its separate Loop setting. These source controls determine what OBS sends; YouTube’s player Loop control only repeats playback for a viewer.
Find the source that controls the stream
In OBS, identify the scene being sent to the broadcast, then find the source supplying its video. A Media Source plays one media file; a VLC Video source can use a playlist. Their repeat settings are different, so first establish which source is responsible before changing anything. OBS’s media source documentation describes the distinction and the available controls.
Check a multi-video VLC playlist
Remove repeated entries
Open the VLC Video source’s playlist and review each filename or URL. Remove any entry that should not play again. OBS documents an editable playlist, but does not document automatic duplicate detection; do not assume it will find repeated files for you.
Set order and end-of-list behavior separately
- Turn Shuffle Playlist off when you want playback in the displayed order. Shuffle changes ordering; it does not remove duplicate entries.
- Use Loop Playlist to control whether the source starts its playlist again after reaching the end. This setting repeats the list as a whole; it is not a duplicate-removal setting.
After editing the source, check the actual OBS program output that is going to YouTube. Do not rely on an assumption about how a particular transition or 24/7 setup will behave; the documented controls do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

Check a single-file Media Source
A Media Source represents one media file. Confirm that it points to the intended file, then inspect its Loop setting. When enabled, Loop repeats that file after it finishes. If the stream should move on to other videos, use a multi-item playlist source rather than expecting a single-file source to select the next video.
Keep OBS settings separate from YouTube’s viewer controls
YouTube Help’s Loop option is for someone watching a video or playlist in the YouTube player: a viewer can right-click a video and choose Loop, or use the Loop control in a playlist. It does not configure the queue OBS sends as a live broadcast. YouTube Help: loop videos or playlists.

Likewise, Google’s IFrame Player API has a loop parameter for playback in an embedded player, not for an OBS VLC playlist. For a single embedded video, Google says to set loop=1 and include the same video ID in the playlist parameter. Google’s IFrame Player API documentation.
Troubleshoot repeats or missing playlist controls
- The same title appears twice in a row: inspect every playlist row, including URLs and alternate copies of the same file, and remove entries that should occur only once.
- Files play in an unexpected order: check whether Shuffle Playlist is on. Turn it off to follow the displayed list order.
- The whole schedule starts again: inspect Loop Playlist; it governs restarting the playlist after it is exhausted.
- One file keeps restarting: check the Media Source’s Loop setting and confirm the source points to the intended file.
- VLC Video is unavailable in OBS: OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source to appear. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS media source requirements.
