To stream a pre-recorded fireplace video as a YouTube Live broadcast with FFmpeg, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, copy its ingest URL and private stream key, then send the video to that destination in real time. Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the event, and monitor both YouTube’s stream health and the FFmpeg process while it runs.

Before you start

You need a YouTube channel enabled for live streaming, an FFmpeg installation on a computer that can stay on for the broadcast, a fireplace video you have the right to use, and a reliable internet connection. This local-encoder method depends on that computer and connection remaining available.

Check channel eligibility

YouTube’s current guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance before scheduling a broadcast.

Check video and audio rights

YouTube requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Confirm that you own or have permission to use both the fireplace footage and any music, ambient sound, or other audio in the recording. A looped or self-made video is not automatically eligible for monetization, and repeating footage does not guarantee reach.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Create the YouTube encoder stream

  1. Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream using the encoder workflow. Scheduling can create a watch page in advance; an immediate broadcast can be set up without that promotion window.

  2. In Live Control Room, locate the stream settings and copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter these in FFmpeg as the output destination. Treat the key like a password: do not post it, share it, or include it in a public script or screenshot.

  3. Choose RTMPS if you want an encrypted connection. YouTube may show an ordinary RTMP URL by default; select or retrieve the secure ingest URL in Live Control Room and use that exact URL. Confirm your FFmpeg build supports the selected secure destination. YouTube recommends RTMPS in its encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance.

  4. Keep Live Control Room open. Once FFmpeg is sending video, wait for the incoming preview, check picture and sound, and start or confirm the live event there.

Choose output settings that fit the source

For standard RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, YouTube lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a keyframe interval of two seconds recommended, with four seconds as the maximum. Its recommended bitrate depends on the output resolution and frame rate, so use the current YouTube table rather than choosing a value by guesswork.

Inspect the fireplace file

Before building the command, identify the file’s resolution, frame rate, video and audio codecs, and whether it has an audio track. Use those properties to decide whether to pass compatible streams through unchanged or re-encode them. A file that does not meet YouTube’s ingest requirements needs compatible output settings; re-encoding also uses computer resources. The available platform guidance does not specify hardware requirements for a particular file.

Match bitrate to resolution and upload capacity

Select a bitrate from YouTube’s current recommendation for the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. Check the actual upload capacity available to the streaming computer; YouTube recommends about 20% additional upload bandwidth above the total stream bitrate. Leave headroom for fluctuations and other network traffic rather than sizing the stream to the connection’s best-case speed.

Understand real-time pacing and looping

A file cannot simply be uploaded to the live ingest endpoint at maximum file-transfer speed: FFmpeg must feed it at playback pace. The -re input option reads media in real time, and its position matters: put input options before the corresponding -i. FFmpeg command-line options are positional; output encoding and muxer options belong before the output destination.

For RTMP output, FFmpeg’s documentation demonstrates the FLV muxer. A command’s loop behavior depends on the installed FFmpeg release and the option used; consult the documentation for your installed FFmpeg version for the input-loop option and its exact syntax before setting an infinite loop. Do not assume an unverified loop value will behave as intended.

Build and run the FFmpeg command

This is a command structure, not a tested, copy-and-run command. Replace the file path and destination with your own values, use the codec and bitrate options appropriate to your source, and consult the documentation for the installed FFmpeg release for the correct loop option.

ffmpeg [input options, including real-time pacing] -i "/path/to/fireplace.mp4" [verified loop option] -f flv "<YouTube RTMP(S) ingest URL>/<PRIVATE_STREAM_KEY>"

  1. Put input options before -i, then specify the source file path.

Test and monitor the broadcast

  • Test with the same video, audio, motion, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate planned for the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing under similar conditions and checking the preview before going live.

  • During the event, monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicator and the local FFmpeg process. Confirm the picture and audio remain present rather than assuming that a running command means a healthy broadcast.

  • To finish, end the event in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; this is archive guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or an always-on loop.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Live Control Room shows no incoming preview Wrong ingest URL or key, the encoder is not sending, or the channel is not enabled for live streaming. Compare the destination with the current Live Control Room settings, verify the channel’s eligibility and activation status, and check FFmpeg output for connection errors. Keep the key private while correcting it.
Video arrives too quickly or the feed does not behave like playback The file is being read faster than real time, or the loop option is incorrect for the installed FFmpeg version. Use real-time input pacing and check option placement. Verify loop-option syntax against the documentation for the installed release.
Video or audio is rejected or absent The source codecs or output settings do not match YouTube’s ingest requirements, or the file has no audio track. Inspect the source properties, confirm H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio for standard RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, and adjust encoding as needed. Check the preview before starting the event.
Stream health reports instability or quality problems The bitrate may be too high for available upload capacity, the connection may fluctuate, or the output keyframe or frame-rate settings may not match guidance. Compare the selected bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the chosen resolution and frame rate, preserve the recommended upload headroom, and check the encoder settings and connection.
RTMPS connection fails The chosen FFmpeg build may not support the secure ingest URL, or the URL may not match the one shown in Live Control Room. Copy the secure URL exactly and confirm support in your FFmpeg build. Do not silently substitute a different endpoint.

Or let it run in the cloud

Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded video, not camera broadcasts.
