For a YouTube stream created through Gyre’s channel-authorization workflow, set its title and thumbnail in Gyre when you create the broadcast. Gyre says you can edit an existing stream’s title later in Gyre. Thumbnail changes are less certain: the documented steps depend on how the stream was created, and the available guidance does not establish a universal way to replace a custom thumbnail while every type of stream is live.
Change the title or thumbnail in Gyre
These steps apply to Gyre’s documented YouTube channel-authorization workflow, in which Gyre creates a broadcast on the connected YouTube channel and passes in stream details.
- Connect YouTube in Gyre. Select YouTube and authorize the channel if you are using channel authorization.
- Set the broadcast details. When creating the broadcast, enter its title and other stream parameters, including a thumbnail.
- Edit an existing title in Gyre. Open the stream’s editing controls and change its title. Gyre documents that an existing stream’s title can be edited later.
- Check the stream’s current thumbnail controls. Before relying on a thumbnail replacement for an already-live broadcast, inspect the stream’s edit screen. Gyre’s documented workflow accepts a thumbnail during creation, but the available guidance does not confirm that every active stream can have its thumbnail replaced there.
Gyre also documents manual stream creation for advanced YouTube Studio configurations. If you used that route, manage the broadcast through the relevant YouTube Studio controls instead of assuming that Gyre’s channel-authorization steps apply.
Use YouTube Studio if it manages the stream
YouTube’s editing route differs by stream type. Encoder and mobile streams use stream settings; webcam streams use the Live Control Room. These workflows should not be treated as interchangeable.

Encoder or mobile stream
YouTube Help says stream metadata can be edited during setup, while scheduling, or by clicking Edit from the stream settings page. This guidance covers encoder or mobile streams, not webcam streams. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Webcam stream
For a webcam stream, YouTube’s guide directs you to click Edit in the Live Control Room to manage settings. It says settings can be changed whether the stream is live or not. The guide describes the camera taking a thumbnail during setup; that does not establish that every live webcam stream supports replacing it with a custom-uploaded image. Change details on an archived live video
If the broadcast has ended and you want to edit the published replay, use the video-details editor rather than the active-stream controls. In YouTube Studio on a computer, open Content, click the video’s title or thumbnail, edit its settings, then save. This route applies to published video details; it does not establish how to change the metadata or thumbnail of every active stream. YouTube Help: Edit video settings.
Why a thumbnail may not change as expected
- You are using a different stream type. Gyre’s channel-authorized creation flow, YouTube encoder/mobile settings, and the webcam Live Control Room have different documented controls.
- You are editing the replay, not the active broadcast. The general video-details editor applies to a published video; use the active-stream route for a live broadcast.
- The active stream has no documented custom-thumbnail replacement control. Check the current Edit or Customize controls for that stream type rather than assuming the creation-time thumbnail can be changed after going live.
- The displayed image has not updated yet. The cited guidance does not establish a guaranteed refresh time for a changed thumbnail, so do not assume an immediate display or repeatedly alter settings without checking the stream’s controls.
