To prevent silence between songs, fix the point where it begins: check the playlist player’s audio before it reaches the encoder, then inspect the encoder and stream connection if that audio is continuous. A pause at a track boundary is usually a playout or file-transition issue; silence that appears later may point to encoding or delivery. A 24/7 schedule alone does not guarantee uninterrupted sound.
Find where the silence starts
Use the same playlist and song transition that listeners report, and listen at each stage. This source-to-viewer split is a practical diagnostic approach, not a formal YouTube diagnostic procedure.
- Listen to the playlist output before encoding. Record or monitor the player’s output across several song boundaries. If the pause is already there, the likely causes are the player’s transition behavior, a configured pause or fade, or silence at the end or start of the audio files.
- Check the audio presented to the encoder. If the player output is continuous, monitor the encoder input and review encoder status or logs around the reported time. A break introduced here points away from the playlist and toward the encoding or connection path.
- Compare encoder output with the viewer-side stream. If sound reaches the encoder continuously but viewers hear a gap, inspect connection stability and media-segment delivery. YouTube’s DASH guide says a failed media-segment upload corresponds to a gap in the video stream and recommends retry handling and alerts for repeated failures (YouTube’s DASH ingestion guidance).
Do not assume every audible pause has the same cause. A track transition and a failed stream segment can sound similar to a listener but need different fixes.
Fix gaps at song boundaries
Check the player and playlist
- Use a playout method that supports continuous or gapless playback, and verify its behavior with the actual files and playlist settings. A playlist feature or setting is not proof that transitions will be gapless.
- Inspect the ends and beginnings of tracks for encoded silence. If a file contains a quiet tail or lead-in, playback may be continuous while the music itself pauses.
- Review transition options for pauses, fades, crossfades, or other behavior. Test the selected option rather than assuming its label describes the sound viewers will hear.
- Play a full playlist cycle and listen through every transition, including the last-to-first transition if the playlist loops.
YouTube’s documented ingestion formats and segment durations do not create gapless transitions in a song playlist. They apply to delivery into YouTube, not to how one track hands off to the next.

Keep the encoder feed and YouTube connection continuous
Check the encoder and event
YouTube’s encoder setup requires the broadcaster to enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. Confirm the encoder is sending to the intended event and that its audio input stays active while tracks change. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that archive note does not establish a maximum livestream duration. See YouTube’s encoder setup and live-stream guidance.
If the setup uses OBS, review the scheduled-broadcast controls and verify their behavior in the current interface. The OBS guide says disabling auto-stop allows a later reconnection to continue the scheduled broadcast, while also warning that a broadcast can eventually end after multiple hours without input. Its guide is marked as a work in progress, so check current OBS and YouTube controls rather than relying on an old setting description (OBS Project’s YouTube streaming guide).

Know which ingestion protocol guidance applies
Do not treat segment settings as a cure for silence already present in the playlist. They matter when diagnosing delivery or configuring an encoder that uses the relevant protocol.
- HLS: YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide specifies muxed audio and video in M2TS, H.264 or HEVC video, AAC audio, and one audio track. It describes media segments lasting one to four seconds. YouTube Help explains that HLS has higher latency than continuous RTMP. These are ingestion and latency details, not gapless-playback settings (YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance).
- DASH: YouTube recommends target segments between one and five seconds to balance ingestion performance and latency. For failed media-segment uploads, its guide recommends retries with randomized binary exponential backoff and says repeated failures should be signaled to the encoder operator. These DASH-specific HTTP instructions should not be applied blindly to other protocols (YouTube’s DASH ingestion guidance).
OBS’s guide describes normal latency as having the least viewer buffering, while low and ultra-low latency are more exposed to buffering when ingestion has problems. If immediate audience interaction is not essential to a music-radio stream, favor the mode that suits smooth playback needs; verify the actual result in your setup.

Test the whole 24/7 workflow and monitor it
Before relying on unattended playback, test more than one transition. Run a full playlist cycle, check the loop boundary, and deliberately interrupt the network to see whether the encoder and broadcast recover as expected. These tests reveal behavior in your own setup; a nominal 24/7 schedule is not evidence of uninterrupted audio.
- Monitor the playlist output and the audio reaching the encoder, not just whether a broadcast is marked live.
- Arrange alerts for silence or encoder/network failure so a silent feed is not mistaken for a healthy stream.
- Check encoder status and, where applicable, segment-upload failures and retry behavior.
- After a reconnect, confirm that the scheduled event is still active and that viewers hear audio again.
The cited platform guides specify relevant format, segment, and recovery behavior, but they do not prescribe a particular silence-detection tool. Choose monitoring that can observe the audio and connection points in your own workflow.

Keep music rights separate from playback reliability
A technically continuous stream is not necessarily authorized. A recording that plays in your files or can be used in another context does not automatically carry livestream rights. CamStreamer’s YouTube integration guidance warns that copyright violations may lead YouTube to terminate streams or restrict public broadcasting (CamStreamer’s YouTube integration guidance). Confirm the rights that apply to each recording and its use in a livestream.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the issue is keeping uploaded recordings playing around the clock without relying on a home computer, StreamNeo runs a YouTube stream from uploaded videos in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
