Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health alongside your encoder’s preview and logs. Then follow the matching fix below. A playlist loop can prevent a video source from ending, but it cannot repair a dropped internet connection, encoder failure, invalid stream key, or copyright interruption.
Identify what stopped before changing settings
At the next interruption, note the time and check YouTube Live Control Room and your encoder together. These symptoms point to different causes:

If multiple viewers report the same outage at the same time, investigate the encoder and connection rather than assuming separate viewer playback problems.
Fix playlist playback in OBS
The directly documented OBS setup for multiple local video files is a VLC Video source. OBS says VLC must be installed for this source to appear. A single local file uses a Media Source instead; each source has its own looping control.

For a playlist of local files
- In OBS, open the scene used by the live stream and select the VLC Video source. If you do not have one, add a VLC Video source to that scene.
- Open the source properties and verify that the intended files are listed, in the intended order, and playable. Confirm that the source is visible and active in the scene.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the list should start again after its last file.
- Test the playlist with representative files. Watch what happens at the end of the list and when the source becomes hidden or visible; visibility behavior can affect whether playback stops or restarts.
For one local file
- Select the file’s OBS Media Source and open its properties.
- Enable Loop if that one file should repeat.
- Test the end transition before relying on the source during a long broadcast.
These controls govern media playback only. If OBS stays connected while a source reaches the end, looping may solve the issue. If YouTube loses the feed, a loop setting by itself will not restore the connection.
Check encoder output and connection health
If the encoder itself is unstable—or YouTube reports ingestion trouble—check the output and the outbound path before increasing bitrate. YouTube recommends choosing quality that is reliable for the available connection, testing before the event, and monitoring stream health while live. Compare the encoder’s actual codec, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate with YouTube’s current recommendations for that configuration; use the relevant settings guidance rather than applying a generic bitrate value.

- Update your encoder to its current release, then inspect its error messages and CPU load while streaming.
- Check that video and audio are routed correctly. If available, review a local recording to see whether the problem is present before the signal reaches YouTube.
- Watch Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and test your upload connection. A healthy encoder preview does not rule out an unstable outbound connection.
- If delivery is unstable, compare Wi-Fi with wired Ethernet at the same encoder settings, where practical. Treat this as a diagnostic, not a guaranteed fix: a cable cannot correct a playlist setting, encoder crash, bad key, or rights interruption.
- Do not raise bitrate reflexively. A bitrate that exceeds what your connection can sustain can make delivery less reliable.
YouTube’s guidance also recommends preparing the encoder early, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video before and during the broadcast. Test the complete playlist and stream setup before depending on it for a long session.
Verify the YouTube stream URL and key
If the encoder says it cannot start or reports a key or server error, open YouTube Live Control Room and check the stream URL and key used by the encoder. YouTube’s troubleshooting procedure recommends copying the current stream key into third-party encoder software. Its live-stream settings also document how to reset a key and update the encoder. Keep the key private.

Resetting a key is a configuration recovery step for a startup or key problem—not a routine fix when a playlist simply reaches its final file.
Check copyright notices and channel restrictions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Check Live Control Room and YouTube Studio for copyright warnings, matches, strikes, or restrictions, and review the rights for each item in the playlist.

If you are licensed to use third-party material, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A rights or account restriction calls for resolving that issue; changing bitrate or switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet will not address it.
