First find out where the repeat happens: in your YouTube player, or in the live video OBS is sending. If only your player repeats, turn off YouTube’s Loop control. If the repeated item appears in the broadcast itself, change the media source settings in OBS: use a Media Source for one file or a VLC Video Source for a playlist, then check its loop and shuffle settings.
Identify which layer is repeating
Ask whether the repeated item is visible only to you while watching, or whether it appears in the live broadcast output for viewers too. YouTube’s Loop/Repeat controls affect playback in the YouTube player; OBS source properties control the local media sent to the stream. Turning off the player’s Loop control will not change what OBS broadcasts. YouTube Help explains how to loop videos or playlists; OBS documents its media source settings.
If only your YouTube player repeats
Turn off Loop/Repeat in the YouTube player. YouTube documents this as a playback feature for viewers watching videos or playlists. The control changes your playback; it does not change the broadcaster’s OBS playlist or the live stream itself.
If the repeated item is in the live broadcast
Open the OBS scene that is feeding the stream and inspect the active media source. The right setting depends on whether the scene plays one file or a list of files.

One video file: check Media Source
A Media Source is intended for an individual file. Open its properties and check the Loop option. If it is enabled, the file can restart when it finishes; disable it if you do not want that file to repeat. Confirm the scene is using the source you edited, then check the output.
Multiple files: check VLC Video Source
A VLC Video Source supports a playlist. Open its properties and confirm the intended files are in the playlist. Then check these separate controls:

- Loop Playlist: controls whether the source starts again after it runs out of media files. Turn it off if you want the playlist to stop at the end.
- Shuffle Playlist: controls whether the files are randomized or played in list order. Turn it off to follow the playlist’s order.
Loop Playlist governs repeating the list; Shuffle Playlist governs its order. If one item seems to recur, inspect the playlist contents and shuffle setting as well as the loop setting.
Install VLC and match OBS architecture
If VLC Video Source is missing, OBS requires VLC to be installed. The OBS guide also specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. After installing the matching version, reopen OBS and check whether the source is available.

Check behavior when the source is hidden
If the problem starts after switching scenes, inspect the VLC Video Source’s Visibility Behaviour setting. OBS says this controls whether the source continues, pauses, or stops when it is not visible. Its documented default is “Stop when not visible, restart when visible.” Test scene changes before relying on the source during a live broadcast, especially if restarting it could make playback appear to begin again.
Test playlist changes before editing a live stream
Make source and playlist changes cautiously while live. In an OBS forum post dated April 20, 2020, one user reported that adding a file to a VLC playlist during a running stream restarted playback at the first video. That is an individual report, not confirmation that every playlist edit restarts playback. If uninterrupted order matters, test the change in a non-live scene or before going live.

If you are configuring an embedded YouTube player
Embedded-player parameters are separate from OBS broadcast settings. Google’s player-parameter documentation says loop=1 repeats a playlist after it reaches its first video. For a single embedded video, the documented setup also puts that video’s ID in the playlist parameter, matching the ID in the URL path, alongside loop=1. These parameters affect the embedded player, not the media source OBS sends to a live stream. See YouTube Embedded Players and Player Parameters.
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- Only you see the repeat: turn off Loop/Repeat in the YouTube player.
- Everyone sees one local file repeat: inspect the active OBS Media Source’s Loop property.
- A playlist repeats from the beginning: inspect VLC Video Source’s Loop Playlist setting and verify the playlist contents.
- Items play in an unexpected order: check Shuffle Playlist.
- The source restarts after a scene change: inspect Visibility Behaviour and test the transition.
- VLC Video Source is unavailable: install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
