A decline can also result from incorrect or expired card details, insufficient funds, a Google payment-profile verification request, or restrictions set by your bank. The message alone does not reveal which cause applies.
First check whether the charge is recurring
India has a specific requirement for automatic or recurring card payments: an e-mandate must be set up, with the cardholder validating it by OTP. Google Pay Help describes an e-mandate as an agreement between card users and merchants that enables automatic recurring payments. Google also says not all banks support the process yet.
That means a card can work for other purchases but still be unable to authorize a recurring YouTube charge. Support can vary by issuer and card product, so do not assume that every card on a particular network—or every card from a particular bank—will work.
YouTube’s billing guidance for Premium and Music Premium members in India says you may be asked to verify or re-enter payment details to keep a recurring membership active. Follow the current prompts in YouTube or on youtube.com.

Check your Google payment profile and saved details
- Look for an account alert. Open your Google payment profile and check for a request to verify information or fix a payment issue. Complete any requested verification before trying again.
- Check the saved card information. Confirm that the card number and expiry date are correct and that the card has not expired.
- Check the billing address. Make sure it matches the information held by your card issuer.
- Confirm available funds. Insufficient funds can cause a payment to fail.
These are general checks; they cannot identify a bank-side authorization decision. Repeatedly retrying without resolving an account alert or incorrect detail may not help.
Ask your bank what happened to the authorization
Contact the bank or company that issued the card and ask whether it can see the attempted YouTube transaction and why it was declined. Ask specifically whether your card is enabled for online payments, international transactions if relevant, and recurring payments using an e-mandate.

The issuer is best placed to explain a bank-side decline. Google’s general troubleshooting guidance lists possible causes, but the decline message by itself does not diagnose an individual card. The available guidance does not establish that the Reserve Bank of India directly declined any particular transaction.
Choose only an alternative YouTube offers to your account
If your card cannot support recurring automatic payments, Google says some new YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscribers may be prompted to choose a prepaid plan. Payment options can differ by country and billing platform, and not every account is guaranteed to see the same choices.
