For a live OBS playlist of Marathi song videos, encode the stream for YouTube Live—not as though you were exporting a finished upload. A practical H.264 starting point is 1080p30 at 5 Mbps or 1080p60 at 6 Mbps, using CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. These settings depend on the source footage and a stable upload connection; Marathi language itself does not call for different encoding settings.
Choose the live-stream settings for your source
YouTube’s current live encoder guidance recommends H.264 at 5 Mbps for 1080p30 or 6 Mbps for 1080p60, with constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds for the keyframe interval. These are ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of identical picture quality for every video or after YouTube processing. YouTube’s live encoder settings
| Source and target | Starting H.264 bitrate | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | Suitable starting point when the source is 30 fps or has little benefit from 60 fps. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | Use when the source has 60 fps motion and your connection can sustain the higher rate. |
Use an output frame rate close to the files’ frame rate, and avoid upscaling lower-resolution footage without a reason. YouTube transcodes live input into viewing formats; the OBS encoder output is not necessarily the rendition viewers receive. Choose a profile based on the source motion and available upload capacity, then check the result in a test broadcast.
Leave room for other network traffic
YouTube recommends roughly 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream bitrate. For a 5 Mbps stream, that works out to at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for the stream alone, before other devices or network activity. This is arithmetic from YouTube’s recommendation, not a separately published benchmark. A connection that fluctuates may need more margin or a lower bitrate. YouTube streaming tips

Build the OBS playlist
Prepare the local video files and make an OBS scene whose canvas and source framing match the intended output aspect ratio. The playlist implementation matters: OBS forum guidance describes using VLC Video Source for playlists when VLC is installed and detected by OBS. A third-party Media Playlist Source plugin is another possibility. Neither option should be assumed to behave identically across all versions.
| Option | Setup dependency | Useful for | Compatibility caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS VLC Video Source | Install VLC and confirm OBS detects it. | Playing a local playlist through the source. | Community forum guidance; verify playlist behavior in your installed OBS/VLC versions. OBS forum discussion |
| Media Playlist Source plugin | Install the third-party plugin. | The listing describes playlist editing and shuffle features. | The listing currently gives OBS 31 as its minimum version; confirm the author’s current compatibility and support information before relying on it for a long broadcast. Plugin listing |
The available guidance does not establish seamless source replacement or dynamic editing while a stream is live. Test the exact playlist, including advancing and looping, before scheduling a public broadcast. OBS may not stop the stream when a playlist ends, according to the forum guidance; verify the current behavior rather than relying on that dated community advice.

Connect OBS to YouTube and configure the encoder
- Get the stream details: In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast and copy the stream URL and stream key supplied there. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the stream URL in the encoder; keep the key private because anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream. YouTube encoder-based live streaming
- Set the OBS service: In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream key using the option shown by your OBS version. Do not share it in screenshots, chat, or public documents.
- Set video output: Choose a resolution and frame rate matched to your source and connection, such as 1920Ă—1080 at 30 fps or 60 fps. Avoid unnecessary upscaling.
- Set the encoder: Use H.264 with CBR. Set the bitrate to the appropriate YouTube live recommendation for your chosen 1080p frame rate: 5 Mbps at 30 fps or 6 Mbps at 60 fps. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
- Check audio and framing: Confirm the video fills the scene as intended, the audio is audible without clipping, and audio remains in sync during playback.
- Test before going public: Run a private or unlisted test with representative footage and audio. Verify stream health in YouTube Live Control Room, playlist advancement, looping behavior, and stability before beginning the intended broadcast. YouTube recommends testing before going live. Do not use upload-file settings for an OBS live stream
A finished video file uploaded to YouTube follows a different encoding path from OBS’s live ingest. YouTube’s upload guidance recommends MP4, H.264, progressive scan, and VBR for video; it lists AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio and recommends a 48 kHz audio sample rate. For 1080p uploads, its recommended video bitrate is 8 Mbps at standard frame rates and 12 Mbps at high frame rates. Those upload rates are not the bitrate to copy into OBS’s live-stream field. Confirm rights for every recording
The language of a song does not establish permission to stream it. Check the rights for each exact recording and video version before broadcasting; a composition, a particular performance, and a recording can involve different rights. The information available here does not determine whether any unspecified Marathi song is cleared for your channel. YouTube may detect copyrighted material during a live stream, so use only material you are authorized to broadcast and address any applicable claims or restrictions before going live.

Troubleshoot common playlist-stream problems
- OBS does not show VLC Video Source: Install VLC, restart or reopen OBS, and check whether OBS detects the VLC installation. If detection still fails, verify compatibility for the versions you installed or evaluate the plugin option.
- The playlist does not advance or loop as expected: Test the playlist in the installed source before going live. Confirm its file paths and ordering, and verify the current source’s end-of-playlist behavior rather than assuming OBS will stop or loop automatically.
- YouTube reports unstable stream health: Check available upload bandwidth, other network traffic, and connection reliability. Reduce the stream bitrate or output frame rate if the connection cannot sustain the selected profile; preserve the recommended two-second keyframe interval.
- Video looks soft or motion looks uneven: Compare the output resolution and frame rate with the source files. Avoid upscaling, and use 60 fps only when the source benefits from it and the connection supports it.
- Audio clips or drifts out of sync: Inspect OBS audio levels and sync during a representative test segment, not only at the start of the playlist.
- The stream appears with unexpected content: Treat the stream key as private. If it may have been exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube Live Control Room and update OBS before resuming.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the playlist to keep running without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams uploaded videos rather than a camera feed. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60 fps for one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free first day.
