Her spouse, Yolanda Olejniczak Marodi, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Aug. 4, 2026, and was sentenced to 36 years to life on Sept. 2, 2026, the San Diego County District Attorney announced.
What happened in Ramona
On the evening of Feb. 17, 2025, San Diego County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon at a home in Ramona. They found Marodi with multiple stab wounds. Deputies and Cal Fire paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but she died at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office and Cal Fire-Riverside County Fire Department.
Marodi was a captain with Cal Fire-Riverside County Fire Department and had served for more than 30 years.
How the investigation and case changed
In its initial updates, the Sheriff’s Office said investigators believed Marodi knew the perpetrator and were treating the death as a potential domestic-violence incident. On Feb. 20, 2025, it identified Yolanda Olejniczak Marodi, also known as Yolanda Marodi, as a suspect. That was the investigation’s early status, not the current legal outcome.
