Conor Kennedy said in October 2022 that he had joined Ukraine’s International Legion and returned home after a brief stint. CBS News reported his account but said it had not independently verified his claims. A separate report in August 2026 described Russian legal action against him; that, too, must be understood as an attributed accusation, not a finding of guilt.
Who is Conor Kennedy?
Kennedy is the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mary Richardson Kennedy, and the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, according to CBS News. His family background is why many readers may recognize his name, but the Ukraine account is his own statement.
What did Kennedy say about going to Ukraine?
In an Instagram post reported by CBS News on October 21, 2022, Kennedy said he had secretly enlisted with Ukraine’s International Legion and was back home. He said he went to an embassy to enlist after learning about the Legion, had no previous military experience, and was sent to the northeastern front. He described his time there as short.
Kennedy also said he had kept his identity and location secret from all but a few people so family and friends would not worry or treat him differently. He praised the people he met and urged followers to support Ukraine through actions such as helping at the border or sending medical supplies. Those are Kennedy’s account and views, not independent assessments of his service or the people he encountered.

These are allegations and reported actions, not proof that Kennedy committed a crime or a conviction. The account is attributed to Russian state-media sourcing; the underlying court record and confirmation from Kennedy or his representatives were not included in the reporting cited here. The report does not establish what practical effect, if any, an international wanted-list notice has.
