Sign in to Streamlabs and open Streaming essentials > Alert Box. Streamlabs’ current alert setup guide describes this path.

In the general settings, enable Profanity Filter. Add the words or phrases you want to block under Custom Bad Words. Streamlabs documents using its standard list, a custom list, or both; available labels may vary as the dashboard changes.

Choose how a match should be handled. Streamlabs’ profanity-filter instructions describe censoring matched words or disabling alerts that contain bad words. Censoring keeps the event visible while obscuring the term; disabling can suppress the entire alert, including a legitimate follow or subscription. Check the current dashboard’s options before relying on a specific behavior.

Save your settings before leaving the page. Preview or test the configuration in the dashboard so you can see how it handles an alert before using it live.
Streamlabs says its profanity filter blocks bad words from appearing in alerts and allows creators to provide their own words. Filters can miss variations or flag text that has a different meaning in context; use a human review option when that risk matters. Streamlabs cautions against banning words that could be part of a normal message.

When manual alert approval is a better fit
Automatic filtering works best for terms you can anticipate. If incoming alert text is unpredictable and context matters, enable alert moderation in the Alert Box settings instead. Streamlabs’ alert setup instructions describe holding alerts for approval, including regular or unlimited approval-delay options.
Manual review gives a moderator a chance to decide whether an alert should appear, but someone must be available to review the queue. Choose the delay that fits your moderation coverage, and check the current dashboard for the exact controls.

Alert filters are separate from live-chat moderation
A chat filter does not necessarily change text shown by a third-party alert overlay. YouTube’s live-chat moderation tools include a blocked-word list for chat messages in YouTube Studio. Twitch’s channel moderation tools document AutoMod and permitted or blocked chat terms. For text displayed in Streamlabs alerts, configure the Alert Box separately.
Choose a filter approach

Streamlabs documents both approaches, but its cited setup material does not establish comparative accuracy or effectiveness measurements. The older filter instructions also describe applying settings to Recent Events as well as alerts; because the dashboard and feature scope can change, confirm the current behavior in your account.
