What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Start by checking whether OBS is dropping frames on the way to YouTube or whether only viewers are seeing playback interruptions. If OBS and YouTube Live Control Room show a healthy incoming stream, lowering your encoder bitrate may not fix viewer-side buffering. Measure sustained upload capacity from the actual VPS, leave YouTube’s recommended headroom, match encoder settings to the connection, and choose a latency mode suited to the broadcast.
First identify where buffering starts
Run a controlled test stream and check OBS and YouTube Live Control Room at the same time. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide explains that dropped frames indicate an unstable connection or one unable to sustain the configured bitrate. YouTube’s live error guide describes ingest errors surfaced in the dashboard, including problems related to bandwidth, bitrate, and keyframes.
- OBS shows increasing network-dropped frames or disconnects: investigate the VPS-to-YouTube ingest path, available upload capacity, and configured bitrate.
- YouTube Live Control Room reports ingest errors: read the time-stamped message and correct the specific issue it names; check bitrate and keyframe settings as well as capacity.
- OBS and the source health look clean, but some viewers buffer: compare affected viewers’ networks and devices, then review the stream’s latency setting.
These signals help locate the problem; none alone proves a provider-wide fault or a general YouTube network issue in India.
Measure sustained upload capacity from the VPS
YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends an additional 20% of bandwidth headroom. Account for both primary and backup streams if you use them, plus that headroom. For example, a single stream configured for 10 Mbps calls for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity under that recommendation; this is a planning calculation, not proof that a route can sustain that rate.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Measure from the actual VPS, preferably toward the relevant destination or through repeated observations representative of the broadcast. A short speed-test peak or a VPS plan’s listed port speed does not establish stable throughput from your instance to YouTube’s ingest service. YouTube also warns that other activity sharing the connection can constrain available capacity. See its streaming tips and OVHcloud’s network diagnostics guide for tools and context.
Match the encoder to the connection
Choose a resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate that the measured path can sustain, then test with representative movement and audio while monitoring stream health. YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance gives recommendations by format. For H.264, its table lists 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Those are recommended encoder settings for those formats—not measurements or guarantees of your VPS route’s capacity. Consult the current table for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate.

- If the actual path cannot sustain your target, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again instead of relying on a peak speed result.
- Check that keyframes are sent at the interval required by YouTube’s current guidance. YouTube identifies insufficiently frequent keyframes as a possible cause of buffering.
- Use an ingest option supported by YouTube. Its guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265, and AV1 options, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport.
- If Live Control Room reports a specific configuration error, resolve that message and run another test before the broadcast.
Choose a latency mode for the audience
YouTube explains that read-ahead buffering is a principal source of stream latency. Reducing latency leaves less buffer to absorb variation between encoder and viewer, so the stream can become more vulnerable to network fluctuation. Normal latency is the safer starting point for non-interactive broadcasts and is described by YouTube as the setting with the lowest viewer buffering. Low latency can suit limited interaction; ultra-low latency is intended for real-time interaction and may increase buffering.
Choose the lowest latency your audience interaction actually requires, then compare viewer experience. YouTube says most low-latency viewers experience latency under 10 seconds and most ultra-low-latency viewers under five seconds; these are descriptions of latency modes, not speed guarantees. See YouTube’s latency guidance.

Verify the OVHcloud region and route
Do not assume an OVHcloud VPS serving India is physically located in India. OVHcloud’s India VPS page says the company has no datacentres in India and serves the market from nearby regions. Confirm the actual region selected for your instance and the applicable plan terms when ordering; product-page details can change. Listed plan bandwidth is not a guarantee of stable performance to YouTube ingest.
OVHcloud documents several network diagnostics in its network tools guide: Looking Glass for route, traceroute, and routing checks from its network; Proof for speed tests; Smokeping for ICMP reachability, latency, and path history; and Weathermap for backbone link load. Use these alongside measurements from the VPS itself. A probe from OVHcloud’s network may not follow the exact path used by your instance to YouTube.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| OBS network-dropped frames are rising | Whether sustained outbound capacity can support the configured bitrate and any backup stream | Measure from the VPS; lower bitrate or resolution if needed, then test again with headroom. |
| YouTube reports a bandwidth or bitrate ingest error | Available upload capacity, total configured bitrate, and other traffic sharing the connection | Correct the reported issue, leave the recommended headroom, and run another test. |
| YouTube warns about keyframes | Whether the encoder sends keyframes frequently enough under YouTube’s current guidance | Adjust the encoder setting to match the guidance and retest. |
| Source health is clean but viewers report buffering | Whether the reports cluster around particular networks or devices, and whether latency is set lower than necessary | Compare affected playback conditions and test normal latency for a non-interactive broadcast. |
| Results vary between tests | Route and sustained performance at broadcast times, not just one speed-test peak | Repeat measurements from the instance and compare them with OVHcloud’s diagnostic evidence. |
Or let it run in the cloud
